Mom's Doll......

This rag doll belonged to my mother. I made it for her many years ago. I told her it was for her, because she didn't have many dolls growing up. Everyone of mom's granddaughters and some grandsons have played with the doll. She's in good shape considering how many kids had a hold of her.:):)
This is her own little chair. Poor dolly needs new elastic in her dress cuffs and the cuffs of her pantaloons. Her hair is black and her eyes are brown, just like my mom's were. I did make my twins a rag doll also. They still have them. I need to get back to sewing...but I still have taken my machine in for repairs. Hope you are all safe and warm....it's a cold day here and the whole week is suppose to be really chilly. Like single digit at night..brrr. :):)

Community Theater.....

Sunday afternoon,  we  went to the high school auditorium, for the play ,"Dixie Swim Club."  This play is about 5 women , who were on their college swim team together. The play shows different stages of their lives together, as they meet yearly on vacation in a North Carolina beach cottage. Our community theater puts on plays 2-4 times a year. We have certainly enjoyed many of their productions.
My daughter, Angie , was one of the actresses. She Played Dinah Grayson. She loves being in these plays. Emma was proud of her aunt Angie, and wanted me to take their picture.
Savannah was there also. I took a few photos of the girls in front of some of the art cases at the school. High school art is impressive. Oh a footnote here....the play had a few iffy things for young children...Emma told her mom that there were some words she just didn't understand about the play.  Liz asked her what the words were. Emma says " well what does hooker mean?" ....yikes. Also during the blackout where they rearrange stage props. You can see people in black moving around on the stage in a dim dark lighting....Savannah asked her mom, "is that a robbery?" :):)

The 2013 Jeanne X. Kasperson Award....

My grandson Korey just won an award at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City. He and four other students will be traveling in April to L.A.  Where Korey will present his thesis, " tracking a wildfire in areas of high relief using volunteered geographic information"  The award is from the Hazards, Risks, and Disasters Group, of the Association of American Geographics.
I remember when Korey was here during the wildfire in Colorado. He was texting with his volunteers then. All this have to do with mapping.  I will try to put this link in my post, so you could go  to a site, to read about this.  http://geog.utah.edu/news/korey-klein-award.php   Well as many of you know...I am thick as a brick when it comes to computers....this is what I wrote down before I started this post...hope it's right :):)xo

This Is A Gift.....

This is the gift I bought myself for my birthday. I ordered this complete first season of " Leave It To Beaver". When I ordered it , I had no idea it would come packaged so sweetly. It was in a little plaid lunch box. When I opened that inside was a family album . Inside the picture album are the dvd's and some photos of the Cleavers. There's even a photo of Eddie Haskel, and he is saying" Gee Mrs. Cleaver, that sure is a pretty dress." :):) I can't wait to watch these dvd's.
The Cleavers were always so calm, even when the kids messed up, nothing like my parents. LOL
Hope your week is a nice one. We lucked out on the icy part of our forecast, yahoo. We just got the rain, more rain is due today.Stay safe friends.xo

Saturday Drive....

Took a little drive through the park. It was pretty there. The snow is melting, and some ice and rain is in the forecast for today. I love our old courthouse, so I try to get pictures of it when I can. I went to our mailbox for the paper this morning in my  pajamas. It's not exactly warm  but when the wind isn't blowing in winter, it can seem warm. Yesterday was nice enough for me to walk the driveways.
Ted and I ate lunch at Bob Evans. Nice to get out and about...but scary too. I am becoming a germaphobe.  I hate when people go out to the stores, when they know darn good and well they are sick. Then I have to think..maybe they have no one to help them out. That is so sad. Hope you are well , if not hope someone is watching out for you. xoxo

55 More Days.....

This is yesterdays snow dusting. Today it is snowing more and plenty cold. I love walking up and down our driveways, for a bit of exercise. I like when my face is cold, don't know why. I talk to God while I walk.
I bet our birds are thinking,"come on people give us a bath warmer." Poor things. We do put out seed and suet. But I forget the birdbaths most times. I have seen birds eat snow, or it appears they do.
Keep warm everyone and be safe. We only have 55 more days till Spring. Yes, I know it can snow on into Spring, but then it won't last so long.:):) The weather forecast says...in the 50's for Tuesday. I say, Wow!! xo

No Sugar.....

This is the fudge counter at Horton's in Tipton. Look at  all the yummy flavors of fudge. Yes, they make a sugar free fudge, but not in all this delicious flavors. I am really trying my best to stop eating so much sugar. I have bought some Russell  Stover chocolate covered treats...mint patties, pecan delights, and coconut squares. Not as creamy tasting as real chocolate...better than no chocolate !! I have lost 6 pounds since Christmas. Which is so good for me. Hope you are succeeding in your New Year's resolutions.  xo

Guitar Playing...

This is Brock, playing Skylar's guitar in the playroom at his aunt Karen's. He seems to really be concentrating ,or he's playing something sad.  His legs are too long for the little bean bag chair.:):)
This is his own guitar, he has three. Two are electric. He had some lessons when he was younger, then he decided to learn more on his own. he does very well. I think he has tried to teach his sister Emma a cord or two. She does much better  at piano. I like that the young ones want to learn music.  I always wanted to play piano myself.  One day I think I'll have Brock just sit and play some tunes for me.  He is a wonderful young man.  xo

Emma's Crafts.....

Here's Emma modeling one of the scarves she made.   These are T-shirt fabric made into rosettes, then hot glued to a felt piece , the a pin glued to the back. The blue thingy is a hair barrette. Emma loves using the hot glue gun , so she wanted to make this dolly from scraps.:):) She had those glue strings and balls everywhere.
Then later we baked ginger cookies and she iced them. I made her take those all home with her.  She likes to lick her icing fingers. :):)
Don't think that is all she did while she was her..oh no.. We watched a movie with Kurt Russell called,"Dreamer" .We drew pictures, Emma colored, fed the neighbor's goats, did Sudoku puzzles, cooked/ate, watched cartoons, snuggled and talked. Baths, tooth brushing, hair combing....on and on. It's extra work while she is here but well worth the time spent with her. She also finds time to make Papaw squeeze her into the recliner with him....she loves teasing him . xo

Emma Crafting.....

This is Emma cutting up an old  T-shirt. Cut the bottom 1/3 or so off the T-shirt. Cut into strips to within an inch or two of one side.
Then stretch the strips as far as you can. Emma used her feet and long legs.:):) This make a cute neck scarf. We also made pins to go along with them.
I will show a picture of Emma in one of the scarf tomorrow. She make one for herself, her mom and her big sister. Today was her mommy's birthday, so a yellow scarf was for her. We took Emma home this morning. I always miss her as soon as she leaves. Don't mind telling all of you  though...I am flat  wore out. :):) Hope your weekend was a good one with lots of hugs. xoxo, Susie

Trinket Boxes.....

This is the dresser trinket box Ted made me for my birthday gift.  He also made me a little box to put needles in. He made some extra needle boxes,to put in the flea market this Spring.
I want to thank everyone for the birthday wishes. I just had the best birthday, milked it for 3-4 days. LOL My sister took me to lunch yesterday. She read lots of facebook wishes to me. I felt so special:):) xo
Now reality is setting in ...and it's off to the union hall to see about my medical insurance, dental and visual also. Words of warning to anyone thinking of retiring....it's a ton of paperwork, for the rest of your life. I will count my blessings though, good to retire and good to have some insurance. Take care of your health, it's your best asset. xo

Birthday Fun....

It's my birthday and I have been celebrating. I had brunch with my classmates yesterday and a gab session with one sister. Today I am having lunch with another of my sisters. I have received lots of cards , wishes , emails , and calls already. What fun. On Saturday, Angie made me cupcakes...I ate 1/2 of one, and will give away the rest :):) Emma is coming for the weekend. She may like one.
Oh  yes, another year more wonderful....that means another year older too. LOL. Ted made me some trinkets boxes, I show pictures tomorrow. He also did the dishes, which he knows, I thinks that is so sexy when men do dishes.:) I wonder if I could make him think I have a birthday once a week.....

Flooding....

Here's a picture of the neighbor's yard.  Still raining here. dreary day. I am going to light some candles to brighten my mood. The bottom photo is water standing around our mailbox. Hope it stops raining soon. We are suppose to get ice, sleet ,and snow mix , after this rain gets through here. But farther south in the state they received 3-5 inches of rain. Praying for them. xo

Picture Hanging....

This picture is in the kitchen. It is where I wanted to hang the picture my g.son Korey gave us for a gift. But the kitchen walls are white and the picture has a light source in it, and the white walls didn't bring the colors out in the picture. So I hung it in one of the bedrooms for now. It really looks good with the dusty green walls....that the color of the walls , they aren't dusty, for once.:):) The painting in the kitchen is one I did some years back.  Today is another sunny one , so far. Yippee. xoxox

Squirrels....

The snow is melting and the squirrels are running around . I think they are looking for their food supplies, that have been under the snow. As you can see I am still using my old camera...geech, I can not get the hang of the new one. Partly because of downloading on our computer. It is not allowing me like the 1st time. Driving me nuts and that is one short trip these days.:):)
Some of the big drifts we had are still around. The sun is out right now, oh happy day. More rain in our forecast, switching to snow on Monday. Bummer.  Enjoy this great day and have a nice weekend. xo

Sorry this is so blurry. This is a photo of James O'Donnell., he died yesterday at the age of 92. He was our last survivor of the USS Indianapolis.  He was awarded the Purple Heart, The Asiatic Pacific Medal with 5 stars, and the Medal of Peace.  O'Donnell was one of the 317 men to survivor the sinking of the USS Indianapolis , that had 1,200 men on board.O'Donnell joined the city of Indianapolis' fire department in 1946 and retired from there in 1981. He joined the board of directors for the USS Indianapolis Memorial Organization in 1990.He is survived by his wife of 70 years. They had their 70th anniversary on New Year's Eve. Stuffed To The Max.....

This is not the Goodwill store....it's my closets. This top photo is the closet that holds all the clothes I wear everyday. The next two photos are what I call my cruise wear closet.  Who am I kidding, there is no way I'll ever wear out the clothes I own.  I have clothes hanging on the sides !!!! I really wonder how much of our childhood makes us collect stuff. (clothes, junk, shoes, junk, dishes, junk) I remember having two dresses in 1st grade. I would wear one for a whole week, taking it off after school and hanging it up for the next day. Sometimes I wonder if that is why I loved clothes so much. Notice I said, loved. Since I can not wear fancy shoes any more....I am not so into buying lots of clothes. I need to thin these closets out ...really thin them out. Or, open my own Goodwill store. :):)

It's Melting....

The snows are finally melting. It's going to be a messy week in Indiana. The snows are melting, rain is predicted, and the ground is still frozen. That means some flooding. Which is the thing I hate most about fluctuating temperatures in winter. Then there's the refreeze, making things slick. The birds have been eating lots lately, poor things. I am dying to get out with my new camera and get some decent pictures. I am not really a snow person, so taking pictures of snow is boring for me. I know there are people out there that love it and do very well with their pictures. Not me.
I may start on packing things up for the local second hand stores...Goodwill, Salvation Army, and one in our town, Second Blessings. I have lost a wee bit of weight, not eating sugars. It's not easy. Hope everyone has a great day and wonderful week.xo

Our Gift From Korey......

This is a photograph that my grandson took. He sent the photo to a place that transfers the picture to canvas. I love it. It's a picture of a pitch fork, cow bell and lantern.  That young man is very talented, and owns a really nice camera, one he had to safe to buy. I took this picture the day Korey gave us this gift. I should have hung the canvas then taken a photo. I think I want to hang it in the kitchen, just not sure yet.
More cold weather for us here in central Indiana, then the next few days it is going to warm up a bit..Now the bad thing about warm ups in winter...possible flooding. Hopefully we don't get that. Enjoy this day. xo

Matt And Sheri....

Do any of you remember Matt and Sheri , who used to host the tv show room by room?? I had  a picture taken with them some years back. I have always painted my own rooms. I picked up many tips from Matt through the years, by watching his and Sheri's show. He paints faster than anyone with a brush or roller.  As you all know, I helped my daughter Angie paint her new home. Well the best compliment we received was from my granddaughter , Margo. She asked Angie if they hired professionals to do all the painting, that the walls looked great. She loved the color choices too. Oh let us take a bow.:):)  I tell all of you though, I would rather just do one or two rooms a year, rather than a whole house. That ladder climbing just about killed me. I actually think I may paint my kitchen cabinets this next Spring.  Then again maybe not.  Enjoy your weekend friends. xoxo

Our Homemade Gifts....

These are  the gifts that Ted made this year.  He really enjoys coming up with different combinations of wood.
This is the lazy susan that all the families received from Ted's workshop. You can put a jar candle in the center, sugar packets in the boxes, or toothpicks in one, salt and pepper shakers go in the round spots . These were all made of walnut wood harvested from this area. The trinket dishes were gifts to all the girls, to put their rings in when doing dishes or cleaning. Everyone enjoyed their handmade gifts. :):)

Peggy's Cove...

Here's some old pictures of Peggy's cove , in Nova Scotia.  It is so cold here in central Indiana, that I have been thinking of these people living here. We were told some will not stay there through the winter months..I can only imagine how cold they are.
This is a beautiful place, lots of seafarer charm. I really want to go back again. We cruised out of New York Harbor , went to Halifax,  Sydney, Portland Maine, Boston. It was an interesting trip. I think I am just wanting a vacation.LOL   This morning we had the prettiest sunshine , now it's cloudy again.  After today, only 76 more days till Spring.....Think I'll start planning a new flowerbed. :):)
