Bird Feeders.....

Oriole feeder, made with cup of grape jelly and orange halves. Hummingbird feeders. We try to keep the birds feed. Today, my sister Jeanie came to visit. She got to see the blue bird and while we were looking for it again, a hummingbird flew right in front of her. Now that was funny.  It was a nice cool morning, we sat out on the porch watching the finches. I dug up some more plant starts for Jeanie. She left to go plant them as soon as she gets home. Enjoy this beautiful day. xoxo

Little Pink Houses...

This really isn't a little house. But I had to post this pink house for Sharon of  "A Wild Thing In Sweet Repose". Sharon lives in Iowa , in a pink house. I took these photos from the car window, as Ted drove by it. I love looking at this house. So cute. One day I'll stop and get better pictures. Maybe look around.:)

Memorial Day....

Any direction you can look at Arlington Cemetery....is row after row of white headstones. That is just a portion of those that gave their all. Take a moment of silence today for our fallen. Hug your own service person today, if it is possible. xo

In Memory.....

This is the World War II memorial in Washington D.C.  Remember each star represents one thousand fallen, there are 400 stars. Ted standing at the Indiana monument. Ted is named after his uncle Theodore, who died  in Italy during that war. Theodore  was just ninteen, his first time away from the farm he was raised on. Ted has some of his uncle's letters home, from when he arrived in Italy. He treasures them.

Still Painting.....

I painted this little wooden wagon and stamped some ivy on it. I put some wave petunias and a sweet potato vine in it along with a green dish. Made a sign that says wild flowers. That poor duck has been painted many times.:):) He's kind of sad actually. I'll show photos of other things I have painted later. Hope all of you are staying cool, as best as you are able. We turned the AC on today...I just always hate to do that. But I have to admit it feels nice. It's set at 78..that's not too bad. xoxo

In the 80's....

Hot , but looking like snow in the backyard. The truck of a tree you can see is our catalpa. It gets beautiful blossoms. They do not last long. when they start falling they look like big snow flakes. This weekend is going to be serious hot...so water your flowers, plants, containers, and your animals. Drink plenty of fluids , stay safe.xo

They did very well.I hope Emma wants to stick with her lessons, she seems to enjoy playing so much.  It is fun to listen to her just playing. She does not pound the keys, thank goodness. xo

Thank You Blog Buddies...

Bloggers are very good for us:):) Many of you sent me well wishes, at the loss  of my best friend. I thank all of you. It's nice to know others care how we are feeling. The sharp pain of loss will ease, I know. But the absence of that friend in my life will go on.  Today tell your family and friends how much they mean to you. If a friend should complain of an ache or pain, tell them to get a check up. My friend said she had her blood pressure in check, her husband said she rarely had it checked. I just think if some people would not shrug things off, they could get help. I know we sure could change a lot of things in our lifes. Thank you again dear blog friends. xo

My Friend Left Me

Saturday evening, a mutual friend called me and told me that my dearest longtime friend just died of a sudden heartattack.  I am devastated. My friend whom I had just been shopping and having lunch with 10 days previously. My beautiful loving friend, that I have known since Jr. High.
I want to rejoice that she is with our Lord.  But my heart is selfish and doesn't want her gone. Yes, I am selfish, I want my friend here ! Where we can talk and enjoy our lifes together.
Today I hugged my friends daughter, extra hugs for her mother. I know that my friend loved me and she knew I loved her. I will miss her so much....Call a friend and tell them how you feel about them.

I Won This Lamp....

This is the sweet lamp I won . Marydon at Blushing Rose had a give away and  I won this adorable lamp. I am so excited about winning it. Marydon put the cutest tag on it and also gave me a perfumed spray. I had just passed up a small lamp on one of my junking trips, so to win this lamp was perfect timing. Thank you Marydon, I will use this little lamp and think of you. xo

Exercise....

Wednesday was class picnic, Thursday was game day. Yesterday morning my sister and I went walking in the park, a few laps. After the walk we went across the road to the high school track . My daughter's class along with all the 5th grades had outside games of tug-of-war, running, frisbe toss and softball throw. All the kids could enter any of the events. Because it was all in good fun, for a day out. This is the end of school year, we had no snow days to make up. Sorry my photos aren't so great....Thinking of getting a more powerful camera. I wish all of you a great weekend. Suppose to rain here, the lawn needs it. xo

Picnic Day....

Some of the children from my daughter's class. They ate lunch...hot dogs, chips and cookies..and one soda each. All the water they wanted :):) They shot baskets, played volley ball, tossed the football. Put on a short play. Here are three of the cuties with their hair braided....but you can't see the braids.LOL The girl is the middle told me she was Irish...no kidding. :):) They will all call me Nana , when they see me again.
Today I took my sister after our walk in the park to school. All the 5th grade classes where having outside games... throwing frisbes, tug of war, throw softballs and running. I'll tell more tomorrow. xo

Class Picnic.....

Today is when my daughter has a picnic for all the kids in her class. If they aren't in detention of any kind, all the kids come. This promise of a day of fun and food usually keeps the kids on their  best behavior . I have been helping Angie with her class picnic for many years. I do hair and nails and clean up afterwards. The girls like to get their hair braided and their nails done. A few boys want nail polish. I will polish theirs clear.:):) The kids dance, sing, play baseball or shoot hoops. Some skate or skateboard. Angie and her family,  sold  their  big house this year and are  living in a rental till they build. They have no yard where they are living......So thankfully one of the student's mom will have the picnic at her home.
Some of the kids are so pitiful, some loving and kind, some pesty. I tell everyone of them they are beautiful and should always be nice, because nice matters. I get lots of hugs when they leave. They all call me "nana" xo

Going Up...

Or going down.....this small stairs caught my eye. I had parked at the grocery, decided to walk through the alley. This is right on the alley , as you can see. They lead to a backdoor of  Baker's Decorating. No it's not cake decorating , with a name like Baker it would seem appropriate. Mr. Baker is a home decorator. My daughter and I walked through some neighborhood recently. It was such an odd feeling, as if we were in a different town. There was a house for sell in the neighborhood and I wanted to see how many dogs were chained up or in a fenced in yard.....being ignored, so they bark all the time. I know dogs gotta bark, but I also know it should not be 24/7.  I had a neighbor who allowed her dog to bark all the time. That will be another post sometime. So walk your dogs, play with them and absolutely feed them.....they are your "other" child. :):)

Jean's Flowers....

Downtown Tipton has Jean's. The perfect place to pick up some flowers, because it's next door to Horton's.
They also have flowers and garden things galore. So as people drive hwy.28 through town they can see lots of beautiful flowers. I love my hometown. We have really wonderful people living here. Going to lunch and shopping with one of my best friends from jr.high, today. We always enjoy ourselves. Hope you get to be near friends today.xo

Junking With My Sister...

My newly retired sister and I went junking today. We went to our favorite little junk shop in Elwood , In.  It's so small, that sometimes it's hard to see what they really have. They are reasonable in prices.  Too much glassware. You certainly would not take a child in there. They have lamps, pictures, dishes, gloves, hats, purses, and some outdoor things also. My sister bought 2 lamps. I will show you tomorrow what I bought .

Finch feeders....

Here's a little finch. I love these tiny birds. I was wondering where they had gone ...then when they came back, they brought the whole fam damily. We are filling the feeders 2-3 times a week now.:):) No hummingbirds yet. I have not seen the bluebird any more.  I'll be posting flowerbed photos soon. I've been planting ,sowing some seeds, and transplanting. Plus I have made up pots for my sister who retired. She'll have time to garden now, so I am giving her some starts from our plants. Hope you enjoyed today. I saw on the weather map, it is really raining in the northeast. xo

My Day Out.....

I had a day out with my daughters. Well 3 of them. we laughed so much.....it's a wonder I didn't pee my pants.:):) We had a nice lunch in Rochester. Then went shopping a bit. Then back to the same place to have a coffee, and visit more. Top photo is me, Kathy, and Angie.  Next photo is Kathy, Angie, and Liz.  I found out later that Karen( Liz's twin) was taking her scuba diving test to get her certification.  The girls knew about it, but Karen wanted to tell me herself. Yes, I am surprised they all keep quiet.  Not like the old days when they told on each other :):) I am so thankful for my daughters. xo

Warrior In Pink.....

This is two of my daughters.I have four. Lizzy, in the pink shirt, just finished up all her treatments for breast cancer, a month ago. Angie is my oldest daughter. They did the race for the cure, walk. It was  to raise money for cancer research and help for many who need it. Today I am going to be spending time with my girls. They have been my greatest gift in life. Enjoy your children today. xo

Hole In The Wall Cafe....

This old place is called "Northside Cafe".  It's been here in Tipton for many years. To the left was an old grocery store. It just was torn down 2 months ago. It was actually crumbling down, very dangerous. This cafe is what I sometimes refer to as a greasy spoon. I had a cup of coffee there after I retired.  Every walk of life in this town eats in there.  Their prices are very cheap. They serve meat and potatoes and lots of gravy....not what I like to eat :):) but a hard working man would love it. When you think about it, it's as healthy as fast food,  I would guess. I think lots of people do not get those types of "home cooked meals" any more, maybe that's the allure . At lunch it's hard to get a space to park there. This cafe is in a grouping of old brick buildings. It all was called the northside when I was young. I remember a barber shop, dry cleaners, the grocery, an appliance store, a service station (gas station for you young folks) and a bar. Things have changed, no barber shop, no grocery, no dry cleaners and the appliance store is a bar now.

Junking :):):)

We went to the junk shop in town yesterday. My sister Jeanie looking at someone's class picture. 1953 !! So we looked for some uncles..no luck. Here was a shelf of Norman Rockwell figurines. They were really sweet. Didn't buy anything.....folks there's a time when somethings are truly junk :):) I am getting better about "not" buying just to be buying, know what I mean .
Putting out the hummingbird feeders this morning. Hope it doesn't take long for the bird word to get out about that. Ted's mowing before it decides to rain. So hard to do things in short shifts. I have pulled weeds and dug around in the flowerbeds....but not planted anything new yet. I did buy a clematis, just can't find the perfect spot for it. Enjoy today everyone. xoxo

Garden Area......

This is in the garden area of Horton's hardware store in Tipton. My sisters and I went walking today around town. We stopped in at Horton's to see the garden displays. I love the flower cart and the the fountains. This place will be having a big french flea market in July. It will be hopping.
This is a just a small add on......I do not want anyone to think our park has no play ground with swings, slides, monkey bars, etc.... It does . It is just installing safer playground equipment. Rubber swing bottoms, plastic slides..I was joking about kids not having any fun -the fun of getting bonked on the head by a wooden swing or burning their behinds on a metal slide. You know like we did as kids. :):)

Park Pictures....

Another walk  in the park. It is really looking nice in the park. Our town's parks department is having a scrap metal drive to help raise funds for new play ground equipment. Kids aren't allowed to play on the same things we played on for years. I know it all has to do with safety.  No more head banging heavy wooden swings .  No hot metal slides, preheating in the summer sun. Yikes. Gee it seems a kid can't have any fun.  :):) :)

The Library....

These are pictures of the landscaping around the library. I love going there. It is so peaceful. We go through the books on the sell tables in the lobby . You can buy used books from  fifty cents to a dollar. I think those romance paperbacks are a dime. People donate books at festival time for the big book sale. I love books, so my daughters and I  go to the sale before we go around the festival. Our library also has plants sales out front in the spring. That is fun too. I hope everyone has a nice day today.xo
