Bird Watching....

The gold finches have finally arrived. They have been back about a week. I love watching them. Yesterday Ted put down the weed and feed turf builder. Our lawn looks great right now. I did potting of some very pretty violas. I have a lot more to do with flowers. I have some seeds to put in the ground,  morning glories, 4 o'clocks, and marigolds. We are pulling the english ivy out. we planted it around the house and it keeps growing under the siding. Live and learn,I guess. I will give some to my daughter , she can grow it on an old farm fence behind her house.   We are in for some rain, but not the heavy kind. We do not need it. Hope you can enjoy some time outdoors today. xoxo

  1. I'm glad someone is getting spring weather. I just took the dogs out in a new 6 inches of snow. Oh well, it's supposed to be warm this weekend. I've tried growing ivy here and it just won't take. I know that some places it simply takes over. I just read your 'My Picks' on your sidebar. The Gwyneth Paltrow version of Emma is my very favorite.

  3. Your comment about your ivy reminded me that we pulled ours up a number of years ago, too. Hope the rain isn't too heavy!

  4. The finches are gorgeous Susie. I mowed grass this morning and after that sat on the deck and watched two mourning doves under the feeder for a long, long time. If only I could sit and watch birds for as long as I wanted...

  5. Oh, yes, ivy--I love it and still have it in many areas but never, never plant it at the base of a tree. I don't know what we were thinking but it took our sons a whole morning, up on tall scaffolding to remove it all from a huge American elm. I think they got it all.

  8. I'm glad to know they've made the trip! We had hundreds of goldfinches for a few weeks. We were filling the feeders every day but now the number has dwindled. They've flown to your house...how neat is that!
