Walking.....

Last Wednesday my sister and I went walking in the park.   We have a walking path around the park, two times around is a mile.
There is also path that takes you to the 4-H fair grounds. Along this path is the hospital, medical arts build, Doctors' offices and two nursing homes.  There's the golf course across from this path. The creek flows between the course and park path.
My sister has one of her ladies , she used to care for at the Catholic Nursing home, living in Miller's Merry Manor. We decided while walking we would go visit with Betty.  She was on her way to the beauty shop they have there. I  thought how very nice that the nursing home takes care of their patients' hair.
I could see that this lady had more trouble being alert since we last saw her in the Spring. It made me wonder...is she just declining from her ills, her age, or lack of enough family visits , or activities. It's is heart breaking to see.  I know that people get caught up in their lives . So much to do and seemingly not enough time.  Please, let's try to remember the lonely today. Visit some one, call them, or send them a card.....for no reason , other than to say you are thinking of them. Isn't that what we all want when it gets down  to the nitty gritty of life....to be loved and to be remembered??   XO

  1. How thoughtful for you two to visit with Betty. I have one elderly friend of my mom's who is 93 who is in a home. We talk by phone once a week. She was always a good neighbor to us and I am thankful I can speak with her still.
Hope you have a nice day, Susie.

  2. That is so true. No one wants to be lonely. When my dad was in the nursing home, I visited him several times a week, and you'd think that each visit was the best thing that had ever happened to him.

    1. Laurie, Some times those homes don't smell so good and can even appear a bit unclean. But every poor soul there , once had a different life. Once had a home with children, who were happy to see them when they got home from work. It makes me wonder, did I give my mother and father enough of my time. I know I truly tried. xoxo,Susie

  5. Great message today Susie. So true we need to honor and remember our loved ones that are in nursing homes and live by themselves too. Loneliness is such a hard feeling to deal with and it is amazing what a card or phone call or visit can do to help with that feeling. Have a wonderful week.

    1. Kris, You are still blessed to have your FIL...you remember what a scare you had just not long ago. I have no in-laws or parents left...and many of my parents friends are gone too. It makes me sad ....so I try to send cards and letters to our parents friends that are still with us. My sister and I visit with our mom's best friend still. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

    1. Hi Missy...it just seemed sad. I know my sister misses her Nuns and the other ladies she cared for. We do write to Sr. Virginia...she does see well enough to write back, has to have help. When ever we are out walking, we take some time to visit our mom's friends too. xoxo,Susie

  7. How very true. There are so many that would welcome a kind word or thoughtful gesture. It's hard getting old...mind and body. Thanks for reminding us to remember others. Sweet hugs my friend!

    1. I really don't think the older ones in homes care if they know you or not...just saying hello and smiling makes some happy. Who knows if they will remember us or not. Just have to be kind. xoxo,Susie

  8. Oh you are so right! I have a younger friend who has MS and after losing her husband to cancer is in a nursing home. That is so sad, I try to send her a card every so often and send her a few dollars. In her last letter she was saying, to have air conditioning..you have to provide your own..sad.. And pay for your own soda, bottled water, shampoo etc. This nursing home is in Wisconsin..which is a long ways from us. Anyway, you are so right just letting someone know you care is very important! A card will go off to her and a couple others tomorrow, thanks for that reminder!

    Blessings,

    1. Gert, Some of the homes are just not as nice as others. We have some charities in our town that furnish food to the needy, along with household needs of Toilet tissues, paper towels, soaps and such. I think the elderly can have that also. I just have had Betty on my mind. My sister remarked that , that is where we are headed one day. I think some times they just need hugs and kind words. I know I like that now. :):) xoxo,Susie

  10. Joanne, I sent a card to a man we used to live by. When I would see him and his wife, I would think they are beautiful and have a good life. She passed away 2 years ago....I send him cards and I sign my daughters' names also. He saw my children grow up , as I did his two . Plus I always remember my mom's old friends and a lady from when we were little kids....still living her house where she was when I was a kid.. We have to share our love or it isn't any good, is it? xoxo,Susie

  11. Oh Susie, I wish I could go walking in the park with my sister, but she lives in another town (not too far). This is a lovely reminder to make sure we visit and talk with someone who is lonely. I try to call my two aunts who are getting older, and I send cards to family and friends all the time. I miss my favorite aunt - she is so easy to talk to. She kind of reminds me of you.

    love,
