Crop Dusters......

Monday was a beautiful day. Low humidity, blue skies with fluffy white clouds.
Time for the crops to be dusted. I love how daring these fellows are flying the planes.
Making his turn across the road.
Then coming in low after going over the power lines.
I get excited when I see them and would love to fly along .
  What an adventurous job.
It's the yellow planes this year again.
He flew right over our yard in front and I did not have my camera ready...:(:(  Some farmers use the crop dusters and some use those big machines that go into the fields.  I have no idea....I am a city slicker. But watching the pilots fly like this just thrills me.
I once took two flying lessons and the airport where I would have been flying in and out of , had high voltage lines nearby...some times you would have to fly over them coming in ...or you would fly over them going up.  I thought it was a lot to worry about while learning to fly. LOL. So I never took any more lessons. I do regret that.
Ted and I are redoing a little garden spot...oh my goodness...we have been lazy these past few months. Now we are paying for it. Pulling weeds has started this project. We have decided we hate that spot and it needs reworked.  So the creeping juniper is being dug out. I have already dug up all the rocks. pulled the clover around the back of the house. Ted is the one digging that juniper, with it's roots to China...yikes.
  Enjoy your day. XO

  1. Oh my you are a girl after my own heart. Living in the San Joaquin Valley and seeing crop dusters often, I dreamed as a young girl of being a Crop Duster....and that you posted this and on top of that took 2 flying lessons....you are my hero.
My dad, a farmer, also had a love for flying and took lessons at a small airport, and became a pilot of small planes..we loved going up in them. Years later, my dearest and I had the opportunity to fly in a four passenger plane from Paris Calif. to Portland Maine...Best experience of my life...what a trip. Thanks for giving me a bunch of wonderful memories this morning.

    1. Wanda, How wonder that your father got his license to fly. Wow, that was a long trip from California to Maine in a small plane. The fellow who gave me the flying lessons worked with me at G.M. He flew for years. There actually were quite a few pilots where I worked. Most would fly into that little airport I told you about. I flew from Kokomo to Muncie , here in central Indiana. It was so exciting. I wish I had gone ahead taken all the lessons. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  2. Love your plane pics. Maybe you should ask to go along someday. My husband took lessons and got his license, but I don't like flying that much in small planes. He loves, loves to fly. I would never be brave enough to take flying lessons. Landing would be my scary thing. Lol.

  3. We have crop dusters flying over down by my daughters where we are staying. Lots of farms down here so they use the crop dusting planes. Fun to watch them. Have a great day.

    2. You are too sweet. Things are coming along better now. They got the garage floor poured today and it has to sit for a week and then they can build. Yeah progress. Hoping the floor guys are done by the weekend too. Patience is the name of the game. Just not my strong suit!!!! xoxo

  4. I've never seen crop dusters in flight, but can only imagine the excitement of seeing those little planes flying so low, back and forth :)
Hope your new garden spot works well for you, digging up creeping juniper is a hard job !

    1. Jo, I make Ted take breaks at digging that creeping juniper, so it is taking days. The heat is back here and today(Thursday) it's raining. We are in no hurry. Ted will be spraying a weed killer along the back fence. When we have to maintain ...it's a job. Always things to do when you own a property. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  5. That would be fun to watch them come in so low. I've never seen them 'in person'.

  6. No crop dusters here. A big sprayer (driven piece of machinery that sits very high up off the ground) came around last week to the bean fields around us. Hope your gardening went well. What do you think you will plant there? Hydrangeas are lovely, if you were needing a suggestion. -Jenn

    1. Jenn, The big machine you are talking about is around here to. I call them grasshoppers, when the sprayer are folded back they look bug like. Our digging is going slowly, as I make Ted take breaks in the heat. Today (Thurs.) is raining. That might help the weed pulling. I love hydrangeas. I would love something hardy and pretty much maintenance free. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

  7. We see crop dusters here and like them. Dean - not so much!
You know.....there's always another project in the wings. You don't even have to look for it!
You and your Ted are birds of a feather to me and Louis Dean!
    Love you guys!

    1. Linda, I worry at times about even being outside as they are spraying...but for me it's too exciting to miss the planes. Linda, I thought of you and LD when Ted and I were out back deciding what we would do. It seems one things does indeed lead to another. We have yet to make that shed of old doors and windows we have collected. The weeds are horrid this year. I usually try to stay on top of our weeding. Some have to be pulled, and can not be whacked. Blessings to you both, don't forget to take breaks . Blessings, xoxo, love, Susie

    1. Pilar, When taking sunsets and sky shots...things change so quickly you have to be ready.
Yes honey, I copied your recipe....but I will have to cut it down for us..there's only Ted and I here now. My daughter does this often...it's like your but she bakes it. I like the crock pot idea myself. Thank you so much. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

    2. You're welcome! I hope you enjoy the lasagna! I actually reduced the cooking time to about 4 hours or so. If you have a Crock Pot like the one I have, the four hour cooking time should be perfect to bake the lasagna.

  13. We had a crop duster flying just across the way from us last year. It was fun to watch! Wonder why all the planes that do this seem to be yellow? At least the ones I've seen are yellow. Love the sky in the first photo!

    1. Cheryl, Lots of the planes around here doing that are yellow. On the way to town yesterday, Ted and I saw a helicopter dusting one of the Pioneer fields. I would have ,loved watching that. I love when the skies are blue with fluffy clouds. :) Blessings, hope you are not too hot there. xoxo, Susie

  14. You took two flying lessons, that's awesome, Susie! The fields look so productive this summer. It looks like it was a lovely day on Monday with lots of sunshine. Good luck pulling those weeds. I used to like weeding when I had a garden, but it can get out of control if not kept up, and that's no fun.

Enjoy the rest of these July days, Susie.

    love, ~Sheri

    1. Sheri, I think our farmers are doing well this year...even though there was some water standing in some places...it wasn't a big loss. When I could bare squatting back on my heels to pull weeds it was better. It kills my back and ankles. LOL But I keep moving. Blessings to you, love, xoxo, Susie

  15. I haven't seen crops being dusted since I was a child and we'd visit my grandparents in Lawrenceburg, TN. That always was exciting but I wonder now what terrible chemicals they were using back then--and what we grandkids were breathing in?

You're true gardeners to be redoing a bed in late July! My husband's still planting things a little at a time and I told him yesterday when he was about to faint that that's why people plant in the Spring! Be careful out there!

Oh that garden spot is going to be a slow process, believe me. I have to make Ted take breaks. I can't take the heat any more . So It will be on hold till cooler days. Blessings, hope you are doing well. xoxo, Susie
