So Far, It's A Go.....

Wednesday we went to the Franciscan hospital in Indianapolis . Ted had a battery of tests, lots of questions and answers too.  This is a huge complex on the  southside of Indy. You know all the way around the bypass 465....which people drive like it means 46"500".
This is the room of the nurse navigator. Her name is Tammy. She will be with Ted throughout his whole time and procedures here. Tammy did tell us of the 12 point matching system, Ted and his donor matched eleven points, with the twelfth point being a minor one.
Dr. Anand Tandra will be his number one doctor. He did a bone biopsy on Ted Wednesday. Told us all the scary parts of the transplant. Plus the good .
This is the waiting room , where granddaughter Sierra and I waited for Ted to have a pulmonary test and an EKG.
He had x-rays also. Then we went over his case with a social worker. No offence, but what are their jobs really? All I have talked with are confusing. She was telling us we need to find rooms to be near the hospital....in Indianapolis during May...are you kidding me. With the Indianapolis 500 Race events. Pray for us.
I have a few numbers to call and try to find some answers. Ted will be going into the hospital the last week of this month and go thru chemo to get his resistance to zero, to prepare for the transplant. I am terrified myself. But I pray.  I try to relax...I am not sure I even know what that means anymore.
Prayers for all of you. XO

    1. This verse came to me this morning for something that is on my mind. But I think it is for you too... :) (maybe the "them" for you is unknowns or worries or the sickness itself)...

Deuteronomy 31:6 New International Version (NIV)
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

    1. Thank you my dear Karen. I always feel so good after I visit your blog. :) God has seen us thru so much so far. I try not to think to far ahead. Some times I think the drs. and hospitals think we live in the parking lot in a camper , or travel by helicopter. Their wishes and desires are demanding. That's half my stress. LOL. Blessings to you and thank you for your kind words of hope. xoxo, Susie

  4. I understand how terrifying this is.
Okay....regarding the social worker.....please tell her about needing a hotel room and ask if she can help with that. Maybe there’s something she can do. I’m so sorry that is just one more thing you have to deal with on top of a jillion others. I’ve been praying every time I think of y’all...which is often! You can do this, Susie! It’s not going to last forever. Just keep taking the next step. One foot in front of the other.
When this is all over and life resumes it’s normal behavior......you will look back and marvel at all you did and how well you handled everything. But for now, you just have to get through it. Love you and Ted so much! Much love and many prayers surround y’all.....

    1. Thank you Linda. I am going to call that social worker again. I found some new numbers to check into. I bought lots of paper products to help when I have to have Ted at home...easy clean up, don't have to worry about the germs so much either. I have bottles of hand sanitizers all over the house. I am trying to stay ahead of that game. I think this cold has drained much of my energy too. I appreciate all your prayers and thank you for them. Blessings to all, love you guys, xoxo, Susie

  5. I am glad things are looking good! I know it must be all so overwhelming. It would sure be nice to have something like dedicated hotel room for patients families...but I am sure
those would be filled quickly, too. The social worker should be helping you find that hotel room. xoxo

  19. Keeping my prayers going for all of you. Have you looked into maybe a Ronald McDonald house to stay in while Ted undergoes this procedure. Most hospitals have a connection with these places for families from out of town to stay while their loved one undergoes treatment. Maybe there is one associated with this hospital. Have a good weekend. Keeping my prayers going that everything will go as planned and with a very good outcome.

  20. Susie, I am putting Ted and you on our prayer list at church. God will work it all out for you. I think it's a good idea to make that Social Worker work for you and help you to find a place to stay in Indianapolis. They have resources that you don't. Stay as strong as you can (being sick doesn't help) and believe that all will work out. It will. And you will be amazed at what you were able to do when you look back on this time.

Bill went so fast, we hardly had time to get real upset...he had beat so many cancers before, I was in denial and felt he could win this one, too. God took him in less than 5 months and I am thankful that he is where he worked all his life to get to.
I pray things will go better than you think and that you stay strong and faithful. love to you, ox

  29. This is an awful awful hard thing that y'all are having to go through. Just take it one step at a time, one day at a time. Y'all are going to get through this and come out even better and stronger for it. Sounds like his match is almost 100% a perfect one, that is great news!--keep that in mind and that so many people are keeping both of you lifted up in prayer. Stay strong as you CAN...and remember that sometimes, it's ok to also be "weak" and let others help and/or take over some tasks or whatever...and to offer you comfort and their strength. Hugs!

  30. oh susie, as difficult and overwhelming as all of this sounds...looks for the positives (easy for me, right?). as we age, new changes evolve in the medical field that help us in our time of need. medically, we could not be in a better place. it sounds like you have wonderful doctors and nurses taking care of ted, that he will be in good hands...that every aspect of his care is being tented too...i hope you can find comfort in that!!

you may find you need the social worker when it is time to go home. i felt the same way you do now BUT she was very helpful when i went home from the hospital after an MS exacerbation.

hopefully writing about it all helps and at the end, you will have a journal of it all!!

And all the tests that Ted has had to go through. He has been through some awful times with pain and discomfort. I know what you mean about the social workers. Sometimes they tell us common sense things that we already know. But then, sometimes they can be helpful.
