Train Rides....

During the earth fest, there are train rides offered. This engine has a caboose that people load into for a short run north on the tracks
It's a Monon engine and  a Nickle Plate caboose. Once it's full , the short trip starts.
This train comes out of Noblesville, a couple towns to the south . This is a museum train.
The cars actually say Indiana Transportation Museum on the sides. Some times this train comes to the Pizza  Shack restaurant in Tipton. That's part of the train ride to stop and eat . Then everyone loads back on the cars and it goes back to Noblesville.  They have holiday train trips.  I have only rode the train out of South Bend into Chicago, with my daughter Kathy, for a weekend stay.. It's nice.  We do not see  many passenger trains in our area. Indianapolis used to have plenty of trains. They still have one that goes into Chicago. The authorities that are in charge , are thinking of shutting that service down. I hate seeing our railways being closed. Just raise the prices and keep the option., is what I feel they should do. We need our railways and I think we will need them even more  in our futures. Do you ride trains? xo

  1. Dillsboro NC has something similar to this that we rode with my parents that was an enjoyable fall trip many years ago.

  2. How wonderful! What a shame though about the railways disappearing. It is the same here though, you often read that such and such a place once had a railway station.

  3. Great post Susie. I rode a train from Illinois to New Jersey the year I graduated from high school (100 years ago). It was a lot of fun.

  4. We don't have any passenger trains here at all, Susie. That one looks like a fun ride. I have never ridden a train but always wanted to try it. I hope yours doesn't close down. Have a great day- xo Diana

  5. We still have a few passenger trains moving about. The "Amtrak Cascades"
and the "Coast Starlight". I have ridden both in recent years. We also have many "Sounder" commuter trains. I think the train systems are still fairly active in the larger metropolitan areas.
It's nice that your community brings the experience back for all ages to experience.

  6. Some of my favorite memories are of riding the train from college to home, then to return to college. There is no passenger train connection that comes through our area any longer.:-( I loved riding the train! xo Nellie

  7. We have lots of trains (passenger and freight) running just a few blocks from my house. When I used to work in center city Philly, I would ride the train back and forth every day. It's fast and clean. I love riding trains. I've ridden to Harrisburg, PA, New York City, and even to Connecticut. When I go to Lancaster County I like riding the Strasburg Railroad which has an old steam locomotive. It's wonderful!

  10. When my son was five we had his birthday party on a caboose of a train. The cars were full of school agers. It was so much fun. I would love to go out west on a train.

  11. I have ridden on a train when I went for a visit in Metamora, IN. It was just a ride to the next town and back, similar to the Atlanta Festival (which I haven't been to in 18 years so I didn't know they were doing that!) I think a train ride sounds like fun. What a great Christmas gift that would be, huh? Do you have contact information? I wouldn't know how to go about booking something like this, but I'd love to. To Chicago....sounds fun! I agree, I hate to see the rails close.
