Hummingbird.....

Here's the best photo, I have taken, of a hummingbird. It was just so  unplanned.  I used to see many more than have been around this year. It seems our birds are changing through the years. We used to see indigo buntings. I have not seen one it two years. We had red headed wood peckers . But since we had a willow tree, that was like a wood pecker condo, cut down, I rarely see them. We have many finches, wrens, cardinals,  blue jays, mourning doves, sparrows and robins. Some nut hatches . Occasionally a northern flicker. I am not even going to put those nasty starlings in the same category. LOL.
It's raining right now and threats of flash flooding south of here. I am sick of the rain now...we have had enough to last a month.  Hope all of you are enjoying a nice day.  XO

  2. I've only seen a humming once. I was visiting a friend in California in 2006 and we were in her fathers back yard. By the time I got my camera it was gone.
    Nice capture!

    1. Boston Boy, Isn't that the way it happens?? Just as you grab the camera...that's why mine looks small, never even thought to zoom. Hang up a feeder near your windows , you may get some hummingbirds too. xoxo, Susie

  3. Great pic, Susie.
I noticed your syrup is red, do you think that attract them? Mine is clear and I haven't had any yet.

    1. The color red seems to attract them more. It may take the hummingbirds a bit to find your feeders. Once some of our friends had hanging baskets of red flowers and about 6 feeders...it looked like grand Central Station for hummingbirds. No kidding. They fight over the feeders too. xoxo,Susie

    1. Hi Laurie, I always worry about flooding, because I think every ditch creek river needs to be dredged through time. Our state has had so much flooding for the past years. I saw where Minnisota was flooding also. Gee I didn't know it was raining so far north. Let's hope for some sweet dry days. I hope you are doing well. That you and garry are over your colds/allerdgies. Blessings, xoxo,SAusie

    1. Gert, It's funny what areas can have the same birds. Ted laughs his butt off when ever I call the doves, pigeons by mistake. I love just about all kinds of birds. I would not like any big groups of anything roosting in our trees though. You know that just a big mess for anyone. Bl;essings, xoxo,Susie

  11. aahh, there's my beloved hummingbird. It must have been a sight for you when you saw it on the bird feeder. You have the red cardinals in your area? I always want to take pictures of the red cardinal but never see them around here. We have a lot of sparrows, robins, and doves. Your hummingbird picture made my heart sing today, Susie, thank you.

  12. I love birds too! And I love your hummingbird photo!
During one of our droughts, I was watering the flowers and a hummingbird came under the spray, put his head back and drank in the water...just the sweetest sight! xx

    1. Kay, talk about a time when you wish someone was near with a camera. That would have been so wonderful. I am amazed at how small they really are. My husband was in his shop with the door open and one flew in and was flying around the light, not sure where to go. My husband reach and grabbed it and it went limp in his hand and he took it to the door and open his hand and it flew away. He said it was just an awesome feeling holding it in his hand. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
