I drove to my daughter Karen's on Saturday. We were meeting up to attend a soap making demonstration.
Hugs and pictures with granddaughter Savannah. Look at Karen's fridge...oh my , her husband says one day the fridge will cave in from the magnets attached. LOL
This young lady is Anna Marie. She is married to my son-in-laws cousin. This was my first meeting with her. She is such a fun person. Great sense of humor.
Needless to say, I know nothing of soap making. I always thought you bought the chunks of stuff, melted it and add a fragrance, then reshape it. LOL...NO. There's is way more to making soap than that. Just ask Judy (who makes all kinds of wonderful soaps)@ cranberry morning.
Here are some of the soaps Anna Marie has made. Some are special for certain skin type or conditions.
Some are very cute, as the green owls and white flower shapes.
It can be dangerous at times making soap. Anna Marie told us you mix lye.(caustic)..well gee what would I know of that. She told all the steps and ingredients. Said to wear safety glasses, aprons, and gloves. This is one of the forms.
She used a candy mold to make some tiny soaps. So cute. We all got a bar of soap and some of these tiny ones.
This is Anna's label. Her info was on the label.
The burg where my daughter Karen's husband's family lives, is also where so many of his relatives have lived for years. Including Anna. It's a burg...no stores , shops , or places to stop....unless you have family there...you would probably never even go there. My son-in-law Jeff, had both his grand fathers living in this burg. They have passed on now. One grand father , when asked what is that cologne you are wearing, would say, "Three Night's In Moran" Moran is the name of this burg.:):) Well Anna Marie has made a soap, that smells a bit spicy, and named it "Three Nights In Moran". I keep laughing when I think about that. I told you Anna Marie had a great sense of humor. Oh there's no way I will be making soap. LOL
Have a great Wednesday. XO
Yes, Judy was the one I was talking about earlier who makes these wonderful fragrant soaps. It sounds like you had a great time at the soap demonstration, Susie. I think it would be nice to make a few for Fall that have a spice scent. It sounds like a great day with Karen. : )
ReplyDeletelove, ~Sheri
Thank you, I do make some fall soaps as well. This past fall I made pumpkin spice latte and autumn leaves just to name a couple.
DeleteWe had a great time together learning more about making soap had a great day with my Mom love her

Noreen, I have a whole new respect for soap makers. It's a lot of planning and work. But you know their house have to smell so good. LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

ReplyDeleteMildred, It was fun meeting new people and learning some of the ins and outs of soap making. It's work. Such pretty gifts too. Hope you had a fabulous day there. Blessings, xoxo, Love you, Susie

DeleteThank you for coming out Susie, I'm so glad you and Karen had a great time. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a FUN project, and what marvelously interesting people!
ReplyDeleteThat Three Nights In Moran made me giggle, because my own barber Grandpa was the custodian of all the Jeris and Barbasol and Vitalis and Bay Rum, all of which he called "ODY Cologne."
You have such Fun adventures!
rachel
Rachel, That is so funny and cute about your g.father. I remember Old Spice on dad and brilcreme hair oil. Too funny. Old spice still makes me think of dad. I love going and doing. LOL. But honestly the soap making looked like lots of work and prep..you need special storage for things also. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI remember my mother making soap when I was little but it didn't look quite as nice as the soap above and I don't remember ever using it. Then again I don't remember much.
ReplyDeleteWe had a take on the "Three nights..." phrase, "Three in the alley."
Boston Boy, Please don't say you do not remember much...you are not that old. :):) Hey, I thought of you this morning, watching the Today show. Al Roker had a list of storm names for the tropical /hurricanes Arlene was the "A" name...you will have to tell your friend. :):) 3 in the alley...oh my ..You will have to post about that. LOL. I wonder is mommy had soap...she was always licking a tissue to wipe the little guys faces. :):) Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteHow cool to go to a soap making demonstration. It must have been fun. I remember making soap in chemistry class at college. I brought my bar home, but never used it.
ReplyDeleteKathy, Listening and watching Anna was fun. She is very good at soap making. I might be able to do those melt and pour types...but oh my goodness I do not think I can do the lye mixing type. There are some wonderful fragrances too. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteThe demonstration looks like a fun event! I love good soaps and there are so many lovely fragrances that I want one of each. :)
ReplyDeleteCheryl, Anna said she made some very gentle soaps for her teens skin. She had some for various skin conditions. I like to put them in the linen closet for the aromas. LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI've never made soap. My mother used to make lye laundry soap. I don't think she took all those precautions, though. You know how things were way back when. Nobody knew better. Soap making must be pretty lucrative. At our spring bazaar the local soapmaker made $500 in one day. At Christmas she made $800. A big deal in such a small community as ours. Glad you had fun. Love the "3 Nights in Moran". xo
ReplyDeleteNancy, I know...somethings we did or our parents , we never considered the risks. At our farmers market a lady selling her soaps, sold them at $5.50 a bar. But to be honest ...those little soaps in the candy mold , would look adorable in a gift basket. I like some of the shapes and colors. I laugh about the "Three Nights In Moran"...just thinking of my son-in-law's grandfather saying that, tickles me. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteSomehow I missed this post, Susie. What fun to go to a soap making class. My friend, Jettie, used to make a lot of soap, too, but has kind of given up on making it because it is hard for her to get around.
ReplyDeleteI think I saw the sign for Moran when I was on 26?
I hope you have a great weekend, Susie. xo Diana
Diana, Yes, that sign you saw was for the one and only Moran. LOL You went thru Rossville also. It had the four ways light ...in the heart of it little town. My twins live in those towns. :) We will stay in touch and when you come thru again we can met in Rossville they had a café or two. We could have coffee it won't be starbucks.LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteWe had a great day together visiting and learning about the soaps glad you came love you Mom
