Flower Shopping....

Ted and I went to Horton's looking for lemongrass or lemon thyme...They were all out. It was raining and the part of the grounds where the herbs were held was not under roof....so we did not stay too long.
We went into the greenhouse section, looked at beautiful geraniums.
Found this odd little garden pick...it actually was a balancing frog, who teetered in a cupped pick. Ted held it over so I could get this shot. It's made of old forks and spoons.  Funny .

Hanging wave petunias, in many pretty colors.
I went inside the store for a few pictures. This is a cute photo holder. A mason jar painted copper , with some lace tied around the neck.   mmm..
Old cowboy boots turn into a vase.
I love this old fashioned fireplace surround. It is made of cast iron and been painted white.
This display had some towels and touches of blue. A silver tray also on this tiny shelf. I need to go back into town and look around at my leisure .  As I said it was raining and Ted was in a hurry for us to get to the grocery and back home.
That is another story. We have one major grocery here in our town of 5, 500 or so. It's call Marsh Grocery and they may be closing  The Marsh  company is going under. If another business doesn't  buy  them out, our town will be without a big grocery. We have a store called White's meat market, small , but somewhat  higher in price than Marsh. The Dollar store sells some food items and the CVS drugstore , also has a small food section. As do the gas stations.  I have shopped Marsh always trying to support our hometown businesses. They will be closing about 28 stores. Makes me feel sad.
I want to wish all of you a safe and happy Memorial day weekend. XO

  1. I hate to hear your grocery store is closing...what a terrible loss to your community. We are getting so limited with all the big super stores that run the family owned stores out of business. Love that frog and that little tub of dollies! Enjoy your day sweet friend, Diane

    1. Diane, You are right...the big stores and malls have ruined the small town businesses. As small as this town is, we used to have two 5 and dimes, hardware stores, car part stores, 3 shoe stores and clothing stores plus a J.C. Penney's. Two movie houses. 4 or 5 bars. Now we have a lot of empty buildings. I try to shop here all I can...even if it means paying more...I want to help keep our stores here. Hope you have a beautiful weekend. My daughter Angie is going to Florida, to see her daughter. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  2. I'm loving those flowers. I think I have to go get some geraniums now.

I feel badly about your grocery store. My sister worked at Pathmark for 35 years before they closed 2 years ago. It's so sad when that happens not only for the employees who lose their jobs, but for the people who really depend on it for their groceries. I hope it doesn't happen or at least it gets sold to a good chain of stores.

    1. Kathy, I love geraniums and have a couple...but last year I bought a bunch of them. I got some nice plants for mother's day so I did not have to buy as many. :) Yes, Kathy, it breaks my heart for the people working the stores and the older folks who have no way to go shop in the next town. The city is getting some groups together to help them if we lose the grocery. Blessings to you and Joe for a fun weekend, xoxo, Susie

  4. Beautiful flowers. The town my daughter lives in had only one grocery store and it closed the last day of Dec. 2016, now they only have Dollar General for small items, She has to drive 30 minutes to buy groceries. It was a Piggly Wiggly.
Susie, I am not blogging at this time, don't know if I will again or not. Have a great weekend.

    1. Sylvia, It is sad when small towns lose their grocery stores. It is sad enough that once upon a time we had numerous stores here, clothing stores, shoe stores , hardware stores and two five and dimes. Those were the good old days. :):) I hope you do not stop blogging....how can I sit on your porch with you ...or see your beautiful flowers and neighborhood....if you don't blog. I hope you are doing well , health wise. Bless your sweet heart, xoxo, Susie

  5. I love all the cheerful flowers and you have some unusual things there at Horton's. I'm really sorry to read about the grocery store closing. I hope it won't. I have been trying to remember the name of those petunias. Thanks. I'm going to buy some. That frog is so funny, but I would have to see it to figure out how to use it. lol!

  6. That is sad, Susie. I hate when a business like that goes under. Hey, I spotted a white star in Horton's that I'd love!! I have one on my garden cottage that I spray painted red...the white one would be nice on my house!

  7. Susie, That is sad about the grocery. I love seeing the flowers and pretties at Horton's. I love geraniums but they don't do well in our heat/humidity. I pray you will have a nice weekend. xoxo

    1. Mildred, I have seen things in the south that won't grow well here... I think each area has it draw backs. I love the flowers you have shown us on your blog this spring. I hope someone somewhere comes thru for our grocery. It's so handy to have a store in town. Blessings for a great holiday weekend, love, xoxo, Susie

  8. As I've said before horton's is my kind of store. I'm so sorry to hear about your Grocery Store closing. Sounds like the way it is around here, only difference is the big chains are coming in and helping to close the smaller ones. I don't care for it at all. Hope you have an enjoyable weekend. Hugs and love, xo

    1. Susie, I have been thinking of you. Wishing you the best. We had a town full of little stores and nice ones at that...we even had a Penneys once. Then the big store and malls cause their decline...now the Penney's at the mall is closing....due to on line shopping, I guess. Maybe one day we will get back to small hometown stores. :):) Blessings to you dear friend, xoxo, Susie

  9. It sounds like small town America is similar to small town Canada. There is a small town about thirty minutes away from us. It's one and only grocery store closed. This was very difficult for the older residents in the town. They would have to drive quite far to access a grocery store. Luckily, a company bought the store about a year later and opened another one. I hope the same happens for your town. -Jenn

    1. Jenn, Thank you for the good wishes for our town. You know some folks don't drive or can't ...so they need home town stores. Some of the senior groups of our town and trying to organizes grocery runs for the elderly. I am hoping our grocery will be saved by another company. Blessings to you and yours for a great holiday weekend. xoxo, Susie

  10. So many clever ideas at Horton's, Susie. Those red flowers are soooo pretty. I always have to stop for red flowers. What an interesting frog made our of forks and spoons. I've never seen a mason jar painted copper. It looks pretty with the dried flowers. You'll have to go back when you have more time so you can look at all the goodies in the store. I also love shopping, and often don't even buy anything, but love browsing just the same.

I hope you're having a nice Memorial Day weekend, Susie.

    love, ~Sheri

    1. Sheri, I like to go into hobby-lobby and Horton's and take my time just looking. I do not buy usually..just get ideas. I kind of liked that idea of painting a jar and tying a piece of lace around the neck of it. You could always paint them your favorite colors. I hope you are enjoying your time with family. Blessings to you, xoxolove, Susie

    1. This store does all the big flower containers on the sidewalks of our town. So they are busy bringing flowers in all the time. I will have to post some of the container shots. :) Oh inside the store is many cute lines of clothing and home décor. Plus it's always been a hardware store with custom made blinds also. Blessings and thanks for visiting. xoxo, Susie
