A Birthday Gift....

Sorry this picture isn't better lit. Ted made this knife and box for his son Heath. It's a joint effort on Ted and Heath's parts.
Heath had a piece of burl wood and infused it with the burgundy resin. Ted sliced it to make the box lid and knife handles. This knife style, is one he makes for his fishing buddies.  Ted made the box from purple heart wood.  So this pretty knife and box are for Health's birthday. His birthday was on groundhog's day...so I call him Punxsutawney Heath. :):)
Yesterday was sunny, and today we have sunshine again. But wow, it's cold out there. Seeing the  sun just lifts my spirits and makes me think of how close it is getting to spring.
Wishing everyone a great weekend. Be safe. XO

  4. Oh my gosh, this box is very nice, Susie. Has Ted ever thought of making and selling these? What a talent he has. And I've never seen wood quite like this before.

It's still raining here and cold and dreary. Every now and then, the sun comes out and shines its face. Have a restful weekend, Susie.

    1. Sheri, Ted's son made the resin and burl piece and Ted used it to make the box top and knife handle. Heath loved it...but I don't think he will just throw it into his tackle box. I am loving our sunshine here, it just isn't making any heat. I was cold all day . Blessings, enjoy today, xoxo, love, Suise

    1. Diane, The sun has been welcome...it just isn't warming up much. :) Heath loved his gift and was proud his father used the burl piece he sent. It was suppose to be a fishing knife...but I think it won't be thrown into the tackle box. :) Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  6. Wow that really is nice work!
It's cold here as well but the sun is shinning. Arlene and I are getting ready for the Super bowl tomorrow. Calzones and pizza's are on the menu. Perhaps an adult beverage or two.

    1. Pilar, I get so tickled to receive a handmade gift. Ted has made items before and sold them at our local farmer's market...but it's hard to sell for enough to pay for the materials...you never get paid for your time. So now he just makes gifts. :):) Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

    1. Gert, Heath did love getting that knife. He is the one who made the burl/resin piece and Ted made the box lid and knife handle from it. Heath is into turning pieces , thanks to Ted for giving him an old lathe he had. Heath saved up and bought a wonderful lathe after he used the old one for about a year. Hope you get some sunshine.
