G.M. & Hobby-Lobby.......

Only this sign is GM...the building in the back ground is Chrysler across highway 31 in Kokomo, Indiana. This sign once was Delco Electronics, now it is G.M.Components Holdings, LLC.. This is where Ted and I used to work.
Ted has worked in this building. It held many engineering groups. He was in the maintenance department there. See no cars in the parking lots. Sad.
I worked in some areas in this part of the buildings along highway 31.  The light poles had letters attached to some, so you could find your car. I used to park at  the "N" or "M " poles when I would get to work. That's how busy the place used to be.
Here's one of the cooling towers for the AC in the plants. No one parked here either. Once this company hired over 10,000 people ...now they are down to a few hundred. The buildings still stand. Wish they could get some business to take over . Ted and I drove by the old work place while in town on Monday.
We went to the hobby-lobby. I just laughed when I saw the Elvis gnome. My son in law , Matt, loves gnomes. But I don't know about this one. LOL.
Now the shelves of all this crazy metal garden objects...why? just looks goofy to me. Maybe in a kids small garden patch or container...it might be fine.
The hobby-lobby has a sign for everyone.  So much stuff !!!
I did kind of like the art that made me think of Paris. Oh that is another item that the store has for everyone...any kind of art , wall hangings and table top décor. I did not buy a thing.
Today is going to be our last nice day for a while. Storms coming in tomorrow. I have enjoyed the warm weather. Gotten some yard work done around here too. Not every thing but lots.  Hope you are all safe and looking forward to your weekend. XO

  1. That is heartbreaking about those large buildings/empty parking lots, and all the lost jobs. I always enjoy browsing thru Hobby Lobby. Rarely do I buy anything, but I enjoy looking and listening to their pretty Christian music. I hope your weather will not be severe tomorrow. God bless your day, Susie.

    1. Mildred, When I think of the difference in number at that G.M. plant I do think of lost jobs for the town and surrounding areas. I was lucky to get my 30 years in and a great education. Raised my 4 daughters while I had that job. I love to walk thru stores like H-L and get some ideas. Some times we can just up date things we already have. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  2. Ooooo, I love the painting with the turquoise door, Susie. I will have to visit Hobby Lobby and check it out. Isn't Hobby Lobby fun to browse through? And I've always wanted a BIG Gnome for my garden. The Elvis one is funny. It's nice to see where you used to work, Susie. Enjoy the sunny days while they last. It's sunny here too, but not sure if the rain will come again. :)

    1. ps I just wanted to tell you that I took some sunrise pictures this morning and thought of you because you take the best sunrise pics. Our skies are a bit different here, as we see the pink and blue hues, while your glorious skies are yellows, oranges, and reds. Oh, they make my heart sing. : )

    2. Sheri, I liked that door painting also. I glad you got out early for some beautiful sunrise pictures. It's nice when things are kind of quiet too. Sheri, when I worked at GM, it afforded me a great pay to raise my daughters...but we always shopped sales. LOL.They still do, proud of them for that. Blessings for a fun and safe weekend, xoxo, love you, Susie

  3. It is sad to see vacancy when there used to be such vibrant active business going on!

I love me some Hobby Lobby! They really do have something for everyone!

We are still having good weather here. I'm sending Louis Dean off for his first test today and will start back to work on the decks as soon as he leaves. He's getting a sonogram of his heart so it won't take him long. I'm letting him go solo. Hope he remembers how to get there! Hahaha!

Enjoy your pretty day and then you can snuggle up inside and watch the weather happen in warm comfort!

    Love and prayers from Texas!

    1. Linda when I see that huge area that GM owns and it truly needs some business in it to help our area, it is sad. I sure hope LD does well on all his heart tests. Yes, I have felt good about getting some things done outside. Blessings to all, xoxo, love, Susie

  4. We have lovely warm weather today also and I'm hoping it will melt the giant snow piles on my deck! Not that we are near done with winter, but it sure is nice to feel the warm sun on my face!

    1. Oh honey, I know what you mean about wishing the snows would melt. IT's always better if one melts before another comes. We may get snow this weekend. After a week of 60 degrees. LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  5. Hi Susie, So sad that those business dwindled-but maybe they'll come back with all the good things Trump is doing. I enjoy Hobby Lobby-especially like the pic with the green door-reminds me of Ireland. We have had snow coming down all day-so I guess we are still in winter(but I'd rather it be spring). Hope the weekend is good for you-stay safe inside where it's warm.

    1. Noreen, It is sad that GM let that company fail . All those buildings and property. Wasting. I saw where a huge snow storm was coming across and going into the upper plains states. Hoping it misses us now...after having all this warm weather things are greening up. Blessings to you and yours, stay safe. xoxo, Susie

  6. I like the art with the red umbrella..very pretty! Not sure about the Elvis gnome though...how funny. It sure brings back memories when you drive by a place you worked for so long. We do that when we are in NC. Hugs, Diane

    1. Diane, I look at our old work place and think back to the late 80's , early 90's when it was hoping...work and more work. Now so few have jobs there. It's sad that all that property and the buildings are wasting. Hope you have a great weekend...it's to turn back cold here. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  7. The empty buildings break my heart...not as much as yours and Ted's I'm sure. We see too much of it these days. And I know you guys feel all of this personally.

I need a trip to Hobby Lobby, but I agree, they sometimes go overboard with a certain style/product. I guess it gives a good amount of choices for some but its not everyones cup of tea. I happen to like their larger pieces of wall art and furniture...actually just smaller painted pieces.

Weather here is wonky. Thunderstorms tonight and then cold and possibly snow. We've run the gamut of weather A-Z!

    Have a great weekend, Susie.

    1. Blondie, When I think of all the work we did in those buildings to now...it can leave one scratching their heads...you can't help but wonder, "WHY'. I too like some of the bigger pieces at H.L. , then look at lots of stuff as new "junk". :):) Oh yes, we are in for crazy storms today. Praying nothing serious. Blessings for a great spring soon, xoxo, Susie

  8. That's a shame about that loss of jobs. Small communities can't handle that kind of thing for very long. I've never been to a Hobby Lobby, but it looks like a great place to browse. -Jenn

    1. Jenn, The GM and Chrysler plants are north of here , in Kokomo. Which is a much larger city than my hometown. Those lost jobs effected lots of small towns surrounding Kokomo. The loss of 10,000 jobs is hard to believe. I am thankful I had my 30 years in before they started downsizing. I was proud of myself for not buying anything at H.L. Hope you are doing well and starting to see spring. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  9. It's always sad to me to see all the empty buildings around. It must be doubly so for you having worked there.

We do not have Hobby Lobby around here. I've always wanted to go to one. I'm thinking it's like Michael's or A.C. Moore.

  10. It amazes me all the trinkets in Hobby Lobby. All we had growing up was Western Auto and the 5&10 store.
I don't even want to look at the weather forecast. I will just be in denial and enjoy today LOL

    1. Karen, I loved our 5 and 10 stores. We had Danners. Our weather has gone from spring back to winter . It can't last like this. I have seen some trees budding out and green haze in the woods. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Thank you Susie for your concern...we had some thunder showers and high winds still this evening at 8:00. It's to stop around 10 then it will turn cold for a couple days. I like just looking around H-L. I usually buy fake flowers to put on the graves of our loved ones. Hope you are getting to enjoy the weekend. xoxo, love you, Susie

  12. It's always a little bit sad to see business's close! I like gnomes, but that Elvis? Nada!! Some of H.L's stuff is a bit weird, but every now and then I find something I love. To each his own I guess. :)

    1. Jann, I felt sad to see on the news that J.C.Penney's is closing lots of it's stores. I remember being excited to lay-away clothes for me girls for school. Then the job I got at GM helped us so much. One year Emma and I bought her dad a gnome for the flower garden...it was a cute one,,no Elvis.LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  13. You should have popped over. I live about 15 minutes from Hobby Lobby. That empty factory makes me sad every time I pass by it. My Mom worked there too. I just don't understand how it happens. Maybe they got too diverse. Sure did a number in this town when they closed. And all if the little "spin-off" placed that they contracted from closed too. I was thinking maybe they could make bicycles. You can't find any bikes made in America.

    1. Cindy, I think you will remember when the K-Mart used to be in the building that is now the Hobby-Lobby . That is where my mom used to work...She retired from Kmart. I wonder if I ever worked near you mom. I with you ,Bicycles or anything to use all that good space under roof. It's a shame for the town of Kokomo to have lost those jobs. One of these days I will meet up with you in Kokomo for lunch. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
