Winter Today....

This is a pretty birthday card I received from my friend Gert. She did write that she saw on my blog I had a birthday , so she sent a "late" card.   Some of you know Gert and her little dog Rusty.  Gert is a beautiful person with a kind heart.  You'll find her at Gert, Tom, and Rusty Too. :):
One day last week when the skies were blue, we drove to town and saw a huge chicken. It was parked outside the Jim Dandy restaurant.  Three of my daughters used to work at the Jim Dandy. I can remember driving by very early in the mornings ,on my way to work,  and seeing my Kathy making the coffee for the morning shift. Karen bused tables and then wanted to cook. Angie used to waitress and then did the hostess job.
This was taken in town. I sat in the truck while Ted went into the post office and mailed our taxes. Look at the blue sky we had Monday.
This is yesterday in between rains.  Today is going to bring us snow and cold.  We have been having a couple days of spring and then a couple days of winter. By this weekend it will be spring temperatures again. I know this is February...normally our coldest month.  We will be staying in for a couple days. Do some movie watching. LOL
Please send good thoughts and or prayers for those in the tornadoes yesterday.  Be safe. XO

    1. Peggy, I forgot to mention the chicken was to advertise the broasted chicken served at the restaurant . It's sitting on a trailer ...surprised someone hasn't dragged it off. LOL. Stay warm , I think you may get snow today also. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

  2. Love that view from your porch, Susie. Enjoy your snow....I'm envious. It was in the 70's here, yesterday. I'm just not ready for warm weather yet. 😐

    1. Laurie, I am not a lover of extreme cold and snow , nor the humid heat...I am a whimp. LOL I would have loved to have a 3 season room on front of our house...but I did not want to invest that kind of money...when one day I hope to move back to town. So we thought a deck/porch would work on this farm house. I have missed sitting out. But the past two days I have been outside walking and sitting. :):) Hope all is well with you. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  3. Hi Susie! I know, it's been a while. I had to cut back on my blogging last year. I sit for eight hours a day at work . . . and I was blogging for two to three hours at home. Not good. I was setting myself up for medications that would be necessary if I did not change my lifestyle. I have popped in on occasion to check on you and Tipton. Gosh. I love your deck!
    Happy birthday (belated)!
In a few days I will be one year from retirement!

    1. Oh my goodness, I have missed you !! I hope once you retire we can all look forward to more post from 34th street. I am so glad you came by..you know I do not understand all the signing ins and outs of blogging. Thank you for the birthday wishes. Please in the year you have left...think of two things you love to do...one when you can be on the move and one incase you can't go,go,go as much as you would like. I call them hobbies, like me going junking and like me sitting around the house. gaaaa. I never dreamed my ankles would not cooperate with my desire to go,go,go. LOL. Blessings to you dear friend, xoxo, Susie

    2. Diane, We had thunder on Monday night in the wee hours and it was raining as I arose from bed...thankfully it cleared the fog out. Today we get some snow. It's still winter for us, I guess. LOL. The big chicken was there to advertise broasted chicken being served at the restaurant. Blessings for a great day there. xoxo, Susie

  7. I love living where weather can be so different from one day to the next, rarely boring. But I do not like tornadoes. And I do not like hurricanes. I had enough of having to evacuate during Hurricane Matthew. So scary.

Watching movies sounds nice. Enjoy! I need to see if one of my sons can hook up my DVD player!

    1. Dewena, I have never had to be around hurricanes...I know I would not like it...as tornadoes warning are scary enough. I guess no place is truly safe, always some kind of scary weather thing can happen. Today is cold and snowy here, but it can't last long. :):) Blessings hope your day was good. xoxo, Susie

    1. Linda, Corn will be in the fields across the road this year. I really hate looking at corn , once it's fully grown till it is harvested. I love being about to see all the way to town...as I can see the courthouse clock tower from the front yard. :):) Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  9. Susie, it's raining again this week, can you believe it! And I'm glad you got a little sunshine there. What a sweet card from your blog friend. How neat that your daughters were waitresses. You know, I've always wanted to be a waitress in a charming café or small diner or something. The huge chicken is something else.

Have a nice Wednesday afternoon, Susie. I was supposed to meet my friend from church, but the roads are wet and slippery from the rain!

    1. Sheri, I am astounded with all the rain you have had in the past two months. Thankfully we had rain yesterday...as this would have been a deep snow today otherwise. LOL. Yes, all four of my daughters have been waitresses. Liz was one in a little sandwich shop once. All my girls worked while in high school...about every summer. They have good work ethics . That chicken statue sure stands out in the parking lot. LOL. I hope you can reschedule a lunch date with your church friend. Blessings, love, xoxo, Susie

  10. Susie I love your sweet little town and cannot wait to come back your way hopefully soon. A perfect midwest old fashion town. Charming shops and dinner. I enjoyed those few days of spring and now we are back to winter. So weird to hear the thunder and lightening and heavy rain the other day. Have a great rest of the week.
    Hugs,
    Kris

  13. For years there was a chicken-topped pickup truck parked next to a restaurant in LaCrosse, WI. It was kinda fun to see it whenever we would drive through the city. Happy Belated Birthday, Susie. May you get more blue skies soon!

There a chicken the size of a shed out front of a small shop....I have no idea why...it doesn't seem to go with the business. This snow can't last...it suppose to be in the 50 again this weekend. LOL. Bless you, xoxo, Susie

    1. Put some salt around ...slugs hate salt, it makes them melt. LOL or you could put out some small dishes or jar lids with beer in them. The slugs will go to the beer but it kills them. Good luck. Blessings to you and yours, xoxo, Susie

  17. Oh Susie, I had asked the cashiers what was going on because there was a bit of chaos happening, so they told me. They weren't really discussing it in front of me. And that's when the conversation started. It was a nice discussion, but I just always listen to people's circumstances and are a bit softer when it comes to forgiving. Thanks for the story about the pudding. I'm going to get my coffee right now and then come back and read your snow post. Oh my, you got snow!

  18. We have only had one snowy weekend here. In fact, it has been unusually warm. I know you treasure the days you can get out. Your porch is very similar to ours and we enjoy sitting there when the weather permits.
