Around Town & Out Here...

This is the front of our library, where they have been working on walkways and this raised flowerbed. They have plant some sort of tree or tall plant in this bed. All new bricks except for one row of the old bricks. I am not seeing the pavers they tore up from the old walkways.
This is the cement statue in front...it was designed by the H.S. art teacher , years ago. It  actually resembles a mom and child reading a book.
Courthouse/library parking , looking northwest. Saturday's sky was a perfect blue.
Since our courthouse sits right in the center of town, it's visible from every direction.
I love that our  town is neat and clean. Low crime also.
Come spring, the farmer's market will be set up where the vehicles are parked in the distance. I just wanted to show some pictures.
This is the story of adventure from Saturday. Three trucks drove past our house on Saturday morning at a high speed. One slams on his brakes and backs up just as fast, to the corner field. But not so far I could not see what was happening. I see them let a man out with a rifle. This man squats down with his gun by the power pole. The truck drives off, this man starts walking with his gun closer to my neighbors yard but still across the road.. Well you know what the authorities tell us..if you see something unusual call the law. So I called the sheriff's dept. They say they will send someone out. I go look out and the man is gone. Then I am sweeping the porch after I see the sheriff go down the road. A truck pulls up and says...we are hunting coyotes, thought I'd let you know. I asked him, "hunting coyotes on the road? Where's the fellow with the rifle,?"   He says it was a shot gun.  Then they drive off.
On my way to town I see that truck on the road parked. So I drive up and ask, "Have you lost something? I see you found the man with the gun. " The fellow says," we have twelve dogs and some are still out." I explain why I called the law and he says  they all understood. I told him I heard the dogs in the woods across from my house. ...I drive off and go into town. Go to the grocery and the library.
On my way home, I think I won't go the same way home...but I see on the next road that truck is pulled over by the DNR.  I turn back and go the way I went before ..so as not to be involved in any of that.
I start carrying in my groceries and all three trucks drive by my house and honk their horns and the fellows all wave...The last truck stops and it's two young kids.  I asked if they were old enough to be driving, my gosh.  Well the driver was 24, he said and his little brother was about 13. They had found their dogs. They were sorry they let the fellow out with the gun and not said anything to the people in our area, about what they were doing.
Now I am not stupid...I know they should never have been on the road walking  with  a gun. This is not an isolated place . I know darn good and well , I was not the only one concerned. There's  a probation officer two houses down and a city policeman lives on the corner. We all look out for each other out here. I'll be honest, I can't for the life of me understand how a group of grown men think they can hunt coyotes on private land, carry guns down the road and drive like they were. Beyond me.  That's my adventure from the weekend.
Hope your day is a nice one. XO

  1. Your hometown reminds me of some of the older cities in Ohio.
I don't get that whole story. We have coyotes in our area. I have not seen them. They are dangerous. I have wondered if they are protected and not hunted. I know but those ugly buzzards we had to deal with were protected. But I think I would have been really scared about those guys and the guns. Looking for their dogs? What in the world were they up too. Its not hunting season. It sounds like they were having fun but it seems strange to me. Lock your door.

    1. Debby, The yound man that stop and said they found their dogs...also said they are deer hunters and the coyotes are running them off...Well yes, that's true...but how do you hunt down a coyote on private land...I know the dogs were actually hunting them for the men..but really...craziness, isn't it. I feel the same way about those Canadian Geese as you do the buzzards. Yuck. Bless you, xoxo,Susie

    1. Thank Patty. I love our small town. I am not easily scared...but people are different than when I was a kid...it seems more crime around. The men were really nice once I spoke with them. Who knows. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  3. It sounds like a scary and unpleasant adventure. I would have called the authorities, too. The driving was bad enough, but walking around with guns, letting dogs loose on people's land, and hunting on private land are all very bad and dangerous and could have ended very badly. How did they know their dogs wouldn't get someone's pet dog or frighten a child? Ridiculous. They should haven known better. I hope they weren't drinking to top it all off.

    1. You know the whole thing was unsettling and strange to me. But once I was speaking with the men as they were parked by the road...they were all gentlemen. So even that made what they were doing so strange.Yes, I am like you...what if their dogs harm someone ...they were hunting dogs. I think they used the dogs to flush the coyotes out...but then I truly think they were planning on shooting the coyotes.Scary. I hope no one handles a gun while drinking. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

    1. They were probably nice men doing dumb things. LOL. I didn't want to take a chance once I saw the fellow with a gun. It looked like a rifle, they said it was a shot gun..Hmm? Blessings to you BJ. xoxo,Susie

    1. Missy, I don't know if the dogs flushing the coyotes was a crime...but it sure was odd. It was the fellow on the road with a gun that bothered me and I called the sheriff. I don't think it's happen again. The DNR can confiscate any and all guns, the trucks or whatever if they feel it's criminal. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
p.s. there's no more barn cats around since the coyotes are here.

  6. Susie, What a story. After hearing that they were hunting coyotes, I wouldn't have worried-because here in Colorado, coyotes will lure dogs away from the house and kill them. There have also been attacks on people and children. I would not want to see them killing them though. During the summer, we hear coyotes in the wetlands behind us. I would have been concerned though see someone walking around with a shotgun.
It is nice you have such a safe town!

    1. Noreen, I know the coyotes try to lure my daughter's dog Sam to the woods...He's goofy enough to go. That's the only time I hear him bark is late at night. We hear the coyotes in the woods across the road all the time. There used to be deer in there....no more and also there's only two cats left out of about twenty in this neighborhood. Yes, the fellow with the gun just walking around like it was nothing, bothered me. I am sure that won't happen again. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  7. I would have found that behavior highly unsettling and would certainly have made a call. Glad that everything turned out in the end.

    1. Vee, One thing that really bothered me was, I did not know those vehicles or the men. They were not from our area. If I ever see anything like that again...I just call the sheriff. People have to be alert. The coyotes do not worry me. But if I had cats or a little dog they might. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

    1. Linda, If it had been my own neighbors, I may not have been so concerned...but I sure would have been asking , "What's going on?"LOL I had never seen these vehicles in our area and they just kept driving the road. That's why I say I know others had to be seeing them also. Otherwise the DNR would not have been out on the secondary road. Bless you, love, Susie

  9. Good for you. So many people just turn a blind eye. We all need to pay attention to what is happening, it could be important to report what we see. Blessings, dear Susie! xx

  11. It's the same here too Susie. However in Idaho you can't shoot near a roadway and you can't shoot anywhere near homes. (450 yds) Out on some of the side roads people push this a little more. I would have been calling the sheriff too.
You have such a lovely town Susie. I love the statue in front of your library.
    sending hugs...

    1. June, I know that there are no high powered guns allowed when out shooting , hunting, around here. The probation officer two houses down shots into a big dirt hill when he target practices...which un-nerves me at times. We all have to be alert. Bless you, xoxo,Susie
