Trees In The Park....

For some reason the city is cutting down the trees in our park. The trees are not diseased. My son-in-law said it was to make the creek cleaner...cleaner??? I don't get it. It the brush on the creek banks that make the creek messy.
This tree is near the little gravel parking lot. Now there will be no shade on your car.
Even the walking bridges were blocked off.  No way to get in the park ...of course you could go under the barricade.
This is looking toward the golf course. All the shade trees are gone from the creek's edge.
It doesn't look right to me. After all the years of so many trees for shade...who wants to  be in the hot sun the whole time you are at the park.?? I wonder why they didn't just top them.  Some body in our town is really spending the money. Hmmm.
Today turned out to be a decent afternoon. Sunshine and not as bitter cold...like this morning it was 7 degrees.  Hope your day was a good one. XO

  1. Seems like cities spend money on the most stupid decisions. I agree that they could have just topped them, but.....

Brr - sounds cold where you are. We've had some cool days but nothing like you.

    Stay warm.

    1. Hi Judy, They showed that polar vortex on the weather report just now...we will be freezing here for a few days now. A lot of states will be in it. You are right about how our cities spend money. Blessings to you xoxo,Susie

    1. I am not sure, but I think the company that cuts the trees may get the wood as part of the bid price. I just wish they had topped the trees and cut the diseased ones down. Things like this is why I never vote for the same councilman twice.Bless you, xoxo,Susie

    1. Linda, There were many trees cut out a couple years ago...for safety...But then where's the shade? Lots of people like to set the picnic tables under trees for shade. I hope it works out. Blessings to you, xoxo,Susie

  5. 7 degrees, brrrr that's cold. Oh Susie, I don't like to see the trees being cut down. We need the trees for shade in the hot summer months. Plus, some of our trees are hundreds of years old. They have heard many stories when people rest under them. :)

    1. Sheri, I saw some Life Oaks In S.C. at a plantation that were 300 years old. Amazing. I love trees...except what I call bird poo trees , Where birds' droppings cause those snarly old mulberry trees to take over fence rows and ditches. Blessings, love, Susie

  6. That's some serious COLD!!! Texas seems to have totally missed WINTER this year! Louis Dean and I noticed our big elm tree beside the gazebo is budding out!! Our roses are still blooming!! What am I supposed to do about cutting them back?
It is sad about your trees. Trees do a lot of good.....

    1. Linda, I really complain about our winter...it's been rather mild. Especially where the snows are concerned. We have had some bitter cold. Going to have that polar vortex again for a few days. It breaks my heart for people who have to work out in the weather. Blessings and enjoy those roses. Love you, xoxo,Susie

  7. I'm such a tree lover that it would be hard to watch them cutting down perfectly healthy trees like that. That doesn't make sense to me either.

    1. Kelly, I will have to plant another tree to help out. LOL... I just didn't understand the need to cut healthy trees. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  8. The city is removing the trees to widen the creek and dredge it. They must have spent a lot of money to research the idea to prevent any flooding like that last bad one two years ago. Also, I think the bridges were damaged during that flood so they would have to be replaced.

    1. Kathy, There was a stink raised about 5 years ago with a tax bill attached on dredging and even making a flood shelf on some of the golf course land. So this actually sounds as if they may widen the creek, at least thru the park...hmmm? I don't get the Tribune and on line won't let me read it with a pay. LOL.. that's not happening. I love you sweet Kathy girl, Love, Mommy

  9. I hate to see the trees come down. I just read an article that if we keep harvesting trees at the rate we are going, in ten years there will be very few woods left. And topping trees is always a bad idea. Have them trimmed by a professional, but never topped. Topping trees make them weaker, the limbs grow back spindly, and it opens the tree up for disease. Just sayin....

    1. Cindy, When I said topping, I guess I meant pruning...Oh yes, I have seen some of those butch hair-cut trees. LOL I do understand the difference., just wish the city did. Have you ever seen a tree cut like a horse shoe for power line. Kills me. Blessings , xoxo,Susie

  10. Susie, I just read the above comment with an explanation. I hope that makes it easier to understand. But I know people will miss them. Maybe they'll plant new trees after the work is all done?

    1. Dewena, They have planted the past two years ...some unusual trees for our park. I would think they want hard woods to help cut down on infestation of the trees. I know they will grow and be pretty...it just seems that some people want to change everything about our city...to me it isn't our city like that. I'd sooner those that don't like just move out.LOL. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  12. To widen the creek and dredge it...hmmm, didn't think I'd learn the answer so soon. You have some knowledgeable readers!

    1. Yes, Vee, My daughter found out for me...She says it's to make the creek a bit wide to cut back on flooding...as our little town had abad flood a couple years back. But then I remember when the city wanted to dredge water ditches and the creek ..it came with a tax bill and everyone had a fit..so it was postponed. I also know that some of the farming community has drained all their fleids for another bushel and it goes in the ditches, into the creek and overflows in our town. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  13. Very sad. We lost an oak right in front of our house. Little did we know it was dead inside and it just keeled over. It was huge and very old. I simply couldn't deal with the empty space and loss of shade for a very long time.

    You are a good soul.

    1. Blondie, I feel your pain at the loss of your big tree...we lost our hickory...well the last four limbs and trunk still stand but dying....from a storm. It wasn't diseased just super wind sheers. That tree was our loving front shade. I hate to think about our AC bills this coming summer. Blessings to you, xoxo,Susie

  14. I hate to see trees cut down unless they are a hazard or diseased. Seems so wrong to me. Hopefully when they get whatever they're going to do done, they'll plant some fast growing trees!

    1. Cheryl, I just hope they plant some close to where they took those down....we need shade for the par's play area, parking lots and picnic spaces. The park did plant some tree the past two years. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  15. Local governments tend to get headstrong and make unilateral decisions like that - ugh. Now no shade - that is a step backwards!

    1. Some times I feel that whomever is in office just work things for themselves. Do what they like more than what the town wants...they get their cronies to go along with them. I am hoping they will replant near those lost trees. I know it can't be the same place. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  18. Behind our house is Corp of engineers property, the lake, and a neighborhood park. Last year they came in and bulldozed behind our yards and I was so upset to see them topple trees and mow down all the beautiful cat tails. When I called the city about it, they said it would clean up the creek that flows into the lake and keep down the threat of mosquitoes with the West Nile virus. 😟

  19. Somebody got the wrong memo there!! There is a town nearby that had to cut all their trees along the Main street because of the noise pollution from all the birds that hung out in them. Now, that was worth it!

    1. AnnMarie, I would have to do without trees if it meant no birds but those nasty squawking starlings. Where I worked they had plants some cute decorative trees where people could sit out on breaks or lunch...then the birds took over those trees...it was long till they were cut down. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

    1. Jan, When ever we lose a tree here, we plant a couple more. I hate seeing our National Forest lumbering the trees for money. That is happening in our state. But the park...I guess they did for dredging the creek to help prevent floods...well I am all for that part of it. But did they have to cut all the trees on the creek? I think not. Blessings to you , hope your are still doing your low carb. xoxo,Susie
