We Need A Cool Down....

Look how brown our lawn is becoming.  Even the willow tree is losing leaves, from the dryness.
I have been keeping the containers watered. So they are thriving. :):)
The skies are beautiful with billowy white clouds.
We had a breeze  yesterday (Friday). The flag waved all day. It did seem more like a Santa Ana wind from California. Hot  and dry.  Today (Saturday) is cloudy  and a bit dark....so maybe we will get some rain soon. The lawn needs it .....so I am sure the crops around these parts also need rain.
Ted and I have most of our chores done for this week. There's a couple of projects in the near future. We want to build a small porch at the back door.  One big enough the keep the wood box at the back door during winter months. Plus we will be working on plans for the greenhouse/shed . We have gathered windows and doors a plenty.
   Enjoy this day. XO

    1. Carol, Please be safe in the heavy rains predicted for the southern part of the state. We actually just got a short rain. It was gloomy all day and just now rained and I swear the sun is trying to come out. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  2. Hot and dry here too. It's going up to 96* today but feel like 110*. We had a little bit of rain yesterday. I was hoping it would be more and would cool things off, but no such luck.

    1. Kathy, Some times the rains we long for to cool us down a bit....end up making things so much steamier. Stay cool . Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Missy, If it doesn't cool off soon...those projects may have to wait...or it will be slow going. I hope your weekend is a good one. We just now had a short rain.Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. I was sure hoping our summer would not be so hot this year. It's not been nice for the past 3 summers. I love the temperatures in the high 60's to low 70's...my favorite. :):)Hope you get cooler weather soon. Bless you, xoxo, Susie

  5. We're having a few days of temps in the 90s. I'm staying inside. I find hot weather more dangerous to my health than cold weather.

    1. Linda, You are right....the heat is dangerous. I feel like I am not getting to be outside very much this past two months. Blessings to you and Bob, xoxo, Susie

  6. We had a ton of rain last night but I don't think its going to help the parched dry grass all around. The heat was just too much. I thought I might have grubs again (they once ate our entire lawn), so I put down the products and had to keep it watered so maybe I'm not as bad off a some of my neighbors.

Sounds like you have some projects to keep you busy before fall arrives. I'm trying to keep my head above water myself!! ;-D

    1. Blondie, When Ted and I built the deck/porch in front, my gosh it was in July one year and took us almost 4 weeks...all because it was so hot. So the back porch will be a slow process too. :):) I hope the watering you did saved your lawn. I think ours looks so sad. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

  7. I've noticed puffy white clouds all summer and they are so pretty. They make the sky so interesting with all their different shapes and the way they are always changing. I think your yard looks good anyway. I would definitely put off the outside chores until the heat and humidity are gone.

    1. Nonnie, Cloud watching is soothing. I like it, makes me think of summers as a kid lying on a blanket in the yard. Oh I plan on us taking our time to do any heavy work outside. I think fall would be a good time to work. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Linda, Don't you wish the flowers, plants and trees could grow as well as weeds seem to do?? I am looking at the trees and fields and it does seem that maybe we are getting close to summer's end. Blessings, love you, xoxo, Susie

    1. The shed we have now was to be my gardening spot...but Ted took over with the log splitter, lawn roller, so many odds and ends. Yikes..plus he built a leanto at the back of the shop/garage and it's full off wood racks, lawn mower, golf cart, trailer...you name it. LOL. So I need a spot of my own.Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  11. Susie, I guess the good Lord knows when we are desperate for rain. It has rained much of the summer here and our ground is boggy. Our yard is weeds and we're waiting until the Fall to plant grass. That's what the Mr. says anyway. Your potted plants are beautiful. I figured its a little too late to plant now. I'll wait and do bulbs in the Fall with the promise of a beautiful spring.

    1. One year in town, I plant lots of tulip bulbs in fall and my yard was beautiful come spring. Once you get into the landscaping ....it will all come together. Safe a spot for the grands to plant something. :):) Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Gert, Yesterday afternoon, we had a small rain and more is coming our way, they keep saying. LOL. I just do not want rain on the day the bug is due here...you know why spray and have it washed away. Blessings, thinking of you and yours today. xoxo, Susie

  13. We have had many trees go brown here this year, but Japanese Beetles are the culprits!

    1. Linda, I am not sure if the heat has had anything to do with this...but I have not seen many beetles this year. I hate those nasty things..they can sure eat flowers up, I have even seen them on marigolds which no other bug would eat. LOL If we would ever lose the willow it would not sadden me...as they have evasive roots. Never plant near a septic system or finger systems. Blessings for a great Sunday. xoxo, Susie

  14. Susie, I always smile when I see your lawn that Ted tends to and cares for. It doesn't look too brown to me, but it's groomed and so pretty. Those white flowers are lovely on your front porch, and I love looking at the clouds - I have a thing for them.

    Enjoy your Sunday, Susie.

    1. Sheri, Ted is holding off on mowing this week....give the lawn a chance to get rain first. I like to watch the white cloud rolling along, they seem to relax me....makes me think summers as a kid. We use to put a blanket on the ground and lay there and watch clouds....usually while watching the little brothers and sisters. Blessings for a sweet Sunday, love , xoxo, Susie

  15. It looks beautiful around here but as far as I'm concerned the 95-99 degree temperatures coupled with the high humidity has got to go. I argue with my brother in law about the heat. He likes it and I don't. He says I will be singing a different tune come winter time. I maintain that you can always put more clothes on when it's cold but you can only take so much off when it's hot and nasty.

    1. Boston Boy, I agree with you. I hate long winters though. LOL. I saw where you were getting the high heat and humidity. This has been a super hot couple months . Today was in the 70's not the 90's ...so I loved it. I wish you a cool down there also. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
