Do You Quilt ????

If you are a quilter or ever have done quilting, you will love this book shelf at our library. You will appreciate it too. This is actually a quilt hanging on the wall. Everything about this quilt is pieced together.
This is one of those transfer (on cloth) type photos of our old library. Now I do not know the real name of this process, so please don't be upset if I am saying it wrong.
This is another of those photos, this is our library now. There also was a photo on one shelf of the lady that made the quilt . This quilt is a piece of art. It needed to be hung with stretchers not the clips at the top.....it would have laid smoother against the wall.
I wanted to ask who made this quilt, but all the librarians were busy. I will try to find out more about this quilt and who made it. I loved it.
I have never quilted in my life. I have made curtains for my daughters ' rooms from piecing many squares of  fabric together. That was as close as I ever got to quilting. My aunt Helen was very good at quilting and did it all by hand. I remember she had a frame hanging from the ceiling and she would lower it and sew awhile  on the quilts and then pull the ropes for the quilt to be near the ceiling , out of the way.
Ted's mother had a quilting frame that would roll the material around a long thin board.  Ted actually remade it for her. She was a great quilter also.
We have had  some super foggy morning this week so far.  But it's very nice temperatures.  Ted and I got a lot of things done on Monday...getting ready for winter.
Wishing all a great day. XO

  1. I used to do a bit of quilting years ago---but nothing as fancy as some of the ones you see today.

My mother also had the long thin board quilting frame and I can remember my aunt and cousins coming up of an evening and sitting and quilting and talking until late. I used to sit down under the quilt they were working on (hidden, I thought) and listen to them talk.

That is a great quilting section in your library...and it is called a transfer process so you are right on track there. xo Diana

  4. My mother was a quilter. She made wonderful things and sold them for way less than I thought they were worth. I miss my mom but I'm glad I still have lots of her quilts. When I wrap one around me it's as if she is giving me a hug. I LOVE the one in your library. Quilts and a library -- what could be better?

  8. To answer your question no, I have never quilted. My mother was quite handy with a needle and thread. I still have a pair of jeans that she patched up probably 20 years ago. What's more amazing is that they still fit.

    1. Boston Boy, I am so jealous that your jeans from 20 years ago still fit./ LOL Wish mine did. My brother was a state trooper before becoming a detective here in Indiana and he used to crochet to relax ...he said it helped him , after telling some parent their child had be in an accident. He made our mom a throw for her sofa. I do not know who owns that now. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  11. wow, that is fantastic, a library quilt! My sister quilts, and I've always thought it was such a talent. She knits and crochets too. I really like to see projects like this, Susie. It takes me back to a time when my mom sewed and did so many wonderful things for us.
