Just getting a photo of the last of the limbs on the old, hickory tree. We have about five limbs left on it. Once the leaves are gone...we will see if it can stand till spring or if we will have to finish cutting the tree down. This was taken right before I took the hummingbird feeders down. They are to be down in the first week of October.
The field across the road will probably be harvested very soon. I do like seeing the setting sun make the corn tops all golden. Harvest time is a golden time.
I did put some things on the plant stand. More cloth pumpkins, some little tin things my sister gave me. The little girl is holding a firefly in a jar. She's solar and the firefly lights up.
As autumn arrived, the sun is setting in a new place on the horizon . It seems to set into the woods on the corner. Today, I am finding it hard to believe we are this far into October ...ten days in. Hope all of you are able to enjoy this beautiful time of year. While I write this, I know there's much heartache in S.C. Let's keep all there in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you. XO
I think the sun and the trees are beautiful this time of year. Your cart is cute. It'll be fun to change things on it throughout the seasons. Enjoy the day!

Thank you Cindy. I wish we had all the wonderful sugar maples that the northeastern states have. Most of the trees here just turn brown....the tulip poplar will have yellow leaves. My dwarf Japanese maples are reddish, and I love them. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteOne thing autumn gives us is very Beautiful colors and that's Amazing every year. I don't know what your hickory tree is as the moment. Do we have them? I don't know, but I sure will find out, lol.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a nice day.
Love Elzie
Hi Elzie, That hickory tree is called a shag bark hickory nut tree. It has hickory nuts that are like tiny walnuts. To get the nut meats would be a rough job...so squirrels usually eat these. We had a bad storm come thru this summer early and it broke about 2/3 of the tree off the top. The center is all exposed to weather, insects and disease. It will probably be cut down. But we will use the wood next year ion the fireplace. I always thought that Pennsylvania had the pretty trees. Hope you are well and enjoying your autumn season. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteYour place looks great, Susie. How does Ted mow all of that grass? That is really amazing. I didn't realize that your hummingbird feeders have to be taken down in October. I am wondering why that is? Your plant stand looks festive with all your goodies on there.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy this Autumn weekend, Susie.
love, ~Sheri
Sheri, Ted loves mowing, he has a zero turn mower. I have a bird book, it says when to have feeders for the hummingbirds. They migrate, so it's not nice to keep them feeding when they have to leave....it could hurt them. ,as they might not find food on their way to warmer places. Blessings to you sweet girl, love, susie
DeleteYour sunset is amazing!! Ours are tame in comparison! Louis Dean and I saw a hummingbird while we were out in the gazebo last week. We love them but have never had any luck in attracting them. Pehaps we will try again next year.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, We probably have more pollution..is the reason our sunsets are orangy. LOL. If you read up on what times to feed hummers and then you can buy some feeders and red hanging plants...they like trumpet shaped flowers. Hope you are enjoying your ranch time. You are Roy and Dale..LOL.You just need a couple nice horses. Blessings, love you guys ,Susie
DeleteThere ARE three horses here!! Right now they are in a neighbor's field while the fence that was bulldozed by a construction crew is being repaired.!
DeleteWhat pretty October days, Susie. I love that the sun moves around from Spring to fall here, too. It really does tell you that a season has ended.
ReplyDeleteHope your tree makes it through the winter. Kind of sad to lose a tree.
Hope you had a great day. xo Diana
Diana, I do think it's sad when a tree has to be removed or falls in a storm. The top of this hickory is totally open to everything...I truly do think it will not survive. I'd sooner cut it down this fall after the leaves drop. Then maybe come spring I can plant a new tree there. Wish I could afford a full grown one .transplant tree.. LOL.. I am loving our temperatures this weekend. Hope you are too. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteLoving this wonderful weather we are having here in the midwest so far. Your sunset is gorgeous. Love the cool nights and warm days. Tomorrow they are saying 77 here for us outside Chicago. Summer temps for October!!!! Have a great Sunday.
ReplyDeleteKris
Kris, Yesterday was wonderful and today looks like more of the same. These are the pretty days. I am still hoping come late Nov...we will have an Indian Summer. Greedy, I know. LOL. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteSo sad about the tree...I hope it survives. That field is so beautiful--I would much rather look out at it than a neighbor.
ReplyDeleteFall really has crept upon us. Time goes by so fast as we get older. I love to celebrate each season and am never one to wish one to end sooner than later.
Love to you--I hope to get around more often.

Blondie, I do not think this tree has a chance...since the very top is open and exposed to everything. I would rather it be taken down now after the leaves drop. Then I could plant a new tree come springtime. I feel like autumn came while we were all planning for it and boom there it was.LOL. I am loving these glorious sweet days...warm but not humid. Cool nights. Hope you are doing well with you hand now. You had a pretty hectic time this past year. But you were a trooper. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteSo sad about your tree. I hope it survives. Your sunset is beautiful. I noticed that the sun has moved into a different place here also. It seems so strange to think we are in the middle of October already.
ReplyDeleteKathy, we are having good days this weekend and they are to continue till Wed. I want to sit on the porch every chance I get. LOL. Hope you and Joe are doing well today. Bless you, xoxo,Susie
Deleteyes, OCtober is definitely moving along isn't it? But weve still got a a few weeks left. The trees are just starting to turn here. It wont be long til the leaves are all off the trees. so planning on enjoying every single moment of fall before he really cold weather gets here! I love fall... just not what comes after it so much.. lol!
ReplyDeletehave a great weekend Susie!
xoxo
vivian
Hi Viv, I love jacket weather. I hate when we go right from hot to cold and I can't wear my cute jackets. LOL....Hey, how often does an old lady get to be cute? I am going to squeeze all the cute out I can. :):) Today is starting out glorious. I am wishing you wonderful days too. Blessings to you and yours, xoxo,Susie
DeleteI agree, fall is a beautiful time. You do have some great photos. I can't believe all of the killings....
ReplyDeleteLinda, I am loving the beautiful weather we are having here. Hope you are enjoying some also. There's so many horrid things happening in our world. We have to pray for our leaders, for all parents and for God to put love in our hearts. Blessings to you, xoxo,Susie
DeleteWhat a gorgeous Fall sunset, Susie!
