I went to Amish Acres in Northern Indiana , to a festival with my daughter one year. We spotted this big old turkey. He was strutting his stuff. He was impressive too.
When I went around to get a shot of him head on, I could see he had been in some scrap with something. A couple of his fan feathers had been torn. He acted mad the whole time we were there...that might be why.
This is one of the log homes on the property . I love visiting these grounds.
They were selling meats and cheese here. I did not go inside, as it was a hot day and I wasn't up to smelling meat and cheese. I loved the porch with the rocking chair. I may see if my daughter and I can go back next summer.
Our snow is starting to melt and that makes me happy. The sun shined all day Sunday and it's back out this Monday morning. I can deal with snow and cold if the sun shines. I sat on the porch yesterday in the sun...but I was wearing a coat and hat. LOL.
Take care everyone, be safe, you want to have time with your loved ones this Thanksgiving. Oh by the way, the same daughter who took me to Amish Acres, finally made her flight out of O'Hare and is now safely in Utah with her son for the holiday. Enjoy this day. XO
I've been to Amish Acres many years ago, I would have loved to see the play and wonder if they still do those. We have a little sun today also, in and out. The snow was so beautiful while it lasted.
ReplyDeletePeggy, do you live near the Amish Acres? They used give good plays at the theater there. Hope you had some pretty sun today. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteGlad to hear your snow is melting. I have never heard of Amish Acres but it looks like someplace I would like to visit.
ReplyDeleteKathy, There's all kinds of fun things going on at Amish Acres...all year long. They have a theater there and give plays. It's a beautiful area in Indiana. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteWe enjoy Amish Acres ... and all the surrounding towns/communities, esp. Napanee!
ReplyDeleteHi Angela, I forgot that you live in northern Indiana. I used to drive thru Napapnee to get to my daughters' when she lived in Goshen. Blessings to you sweet girl, xoxo,Susie
DeleteThankful your daughter arrived safely to spend time with her son. Like you, late afternoons when the sun is on the porch, I like sitting in the rocker for a few minutes just to breathe fresh air - even when it's cold.
ReplyDeleteI would love Amish Acres.
Mildred, I will walk the driveways this winter to be out in the fresh air and I always say prayers as I am just walking about. I like for my face to be cold...then when I lift my face to the sun I feel the warmth. I think most people would love Amish Acres...they have some good food places to eat..lots of crafts, and kind people. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteGlad your daughter arrived safely..Beautiful turkey...Enjoy your Thanksgiving Susie..
ReplyDeleteMissy, I just was so happy for my daughter to get a vacation to be with her son and his wife....then she had to spend another day in Chicago to get out , because of the snow storm. Thank you, I hope your Thanksgiving day is blessed, xoxo,Susie
DeleteLove that turkey! Yes, this is a time we hope we will be able to have family around. Hope your week is a good one! xo Nellie
ReplyDeleteI thought that turkey was so pretty. So many colors on his head and his feathers were nice except for the tear in them. I hope you have a beautiful week too, xoxo,Susie
DeleteWhat a beautiful turkey. We have some wild turkeys in our community but they don't have any white on them. Have a wonderful week! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteI am not sure this turkey was wild...he was on the farm area of the Amish place. They had ducks and goats also. Plenty of chicken running around too. Diane, I hope you have a great thanksgiving day. Bless you, xoxo,Susie
DeleteGlad your daughter finally got to Utah! That was quite a storm.
ReplyDeleteThose turkey shots are amazing and I love those Amish colonies. There is always so much to see and do.
Blessings to you, Susie, and a Happy Thanksgiving! xo Diana
Thank you Diana, I hope your Thanksgiving Day is a wonderful one filled with family and lots of hugs. I'd secretly love to visit that Amish place again. Blessings to all, xoxo,Susie
DeleteI am glad that your daughter is safe.
ReplyDeleteThose shots of that Turkey are very impressive.
Happy thanksgiving to you and your loved ones.
Thank you Munir, I wish you and yours a blessed thanksgiving. xoxo,Susie
DeleteSusie, your turkeys are lighter than ours here. We have brownish turkeys, and this one looks whitish, so pretty. I've never seen a turkey with white feathers before. Sometimes it seems like they are posing for us, doesn't it? The Amish Acres sounds like a nice place to visit.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving, my dear Susie. I am so thankful for your friendship. I really am. : )
love, ~Sheri
Sheri, I don't think this was a wild turkey. We have the dark colored wild ones here too. I think this is a breed of turkey...as it was on an Amish farm, they had ducks, chickens, and goats also. Sweetheart, I am so thankful for you being my friend too. Blessings to you and yours, love, Susie
DeleteGlad she is safely there!!! So - are YOU having a Tom Turkey this Thanksgiving??? Louis Dean is cooking a sirloin roast with veggies on Wednesday in preparation for Jutta and me coming home. Deanie does the turley and dressing for Thanksgiving and Nita always bakes a ham. I am feeling full already!!
ReplyDeleteLinda, I just truly wanted my daughter to be able to have more time with her son and enjoy her vacation. Plus you know we worry, it's that mom thing. We all have our special things we make and take to the family pitch in thanksgiving dinner. I know your food will all be so good. Blessings you and all your family, xoxo,, love you guys so much, Susie
DeleteThat is one handsome turkey. I don't think I've ever seen a better one. Sorry he had a few feathers messed up. He won't be on anyones table will he? Snow....A word I'm not familiar with.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed Thanksgiving. Hugs.
Oh no Wanda, that pretty turkey was for looking at, ,not eating. LOL. I would hate to have to tackle that big boy. LOL. Wishing you and your sweet husband a blessed thanksgiving. xoxo,Susie
DeleteThat reminds me of Plymouth Plantation here except they are all actors playing Pilgrims. I don't think there are many pilgrims left though some of my customers look like they might be close to 400 years old.
ReplyDeleteLOL B.B. I would love to see those pilgrims. Hope your turkey day is a fun filled one. xoxo,Susie
DeleteOoo I almost forget, you and your family have a wonderful holiday!
ReplyDeleteCome by tomorrow if you get a chance and see the turkeys that are in our area. They are brownish looking. I can't believe this white one, it's sooooo pretty. I would keep it for a friend haha. : )
ReplyDeleteSheri, I will be by...I hate to miss any of your posts. Blessings, love, Susie
DeleteThat is the most gorgeous turkey I have ever seen!
ReplyDeleteI need to find out what breed it is, it's not the average white and it's not wild. I thought he was fabulous too. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteI used to go up that way with my Mom, Sister and cousin every summer. We would go the Shipshewana. There was never much time to spend at Amish Acres as we always shopped all day then came back home. I think I would enjoy Amush Acres more than the flea market now!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving Susie!
Cindy Bee
Cindy, I love to go to the Amish areas...but I kind of hate buying at the flea market part...it is getting to be all stuff from China...which the Amish people should absolutely refuse to sell. Being as they are crafts people themselves. I wish you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving also Cindy. xoxo,Susie
DeleteThis looks like a place I would enjoy visiting. That turkey is really uniquely colored. He does look like he had been in a scrap doesn't he! We used to have a motorhome and toured a lot of Amish areas in Indiana and Pennsylvania. I need to get out and do more again!
