Happenings....

This willow tree is green and the skies are partly cloudy. We had a nice day yesterday...windy again. It did warm up later in the day.
The lilies by the pond are much taller. The ones on the west side of the house are also. They look much better once I cleaned all the old streamers out from last year.
When we took Emma home on Tuesday, her parents had bought some new baby chicks. A fox had dug under the fencing and killed most of their egg laying chickens.  Sam the dog took care of that fox. I wonder where Sam was when the fox was in the chickens.Hmmm? (probably inside watching TV)
Emma's dad got this new big old rooster. He's very pretty with teal colored tail feathers. I do not know breeds of chicken...so I can not even begin to tell you. He's tall too. Emma sure does like the chickens and gathering eggs. Liz did tell me what the new chickens' breeds were, but I do not remember..she said one kind lays blue eggs. Can't wait to see those.
Wishing all of you a great day. We are to have rain. XO

  1. The rooster looks like an Ameraucana although I may be wrong. I'm no chicken expert. The hens that lay blue eggs are Araucana. I know from going to the farm and buying them there. The eggs are pretty.

    1. Oh I know Betsy...I would not want to hear it or see it. There were two chicken left and they looked roughed up...some feathers missing. My SIL said the fox kills them to be killing them..cause they don't always eat them.. How mean. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  4. See, that's another reason why I can't have chickens any more - I cried too hard when the hawk got one and there's no way I could deal with the whole fox thing - too sad!!

    1. A hawk had been after the chickens before and Matt put a nice roof like netting over the pens, then this fox digs under the nice big pen he had built. Too much stress for eggs. But them Emma is learning a bit about eggs and chickens. :) Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  5. I hope these chickens survive...it's a tough world out there. We had beautiful weather and went for a hike this morning. Maybe rain tomorrow but that would be welcome as long as it doesn't storm. Hugs!

    1. Diane, The fox wasn't even eating the chickens ...just killing them...I thought that was mean. Our rain was too heavy...I was glad about that. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  6. I remember eating freshly laid eggs on my grandfathers farm in Italy. There is a difference. The weather is iffy and up and down, though there's a nice weekend coming up, at least for now.

    1. Boston Boy, Our weather wasn't as bad as first predicted...I just don't like storms. I told my daughter I did not want any of the eggs...cause we just do not eat that many...she has eggs for Matt every day. Now they have to wait the baby chicks to grown up and get busy. :) I wonder if it's worth the trouble to raise chickens. My SIL just like to know where their food is coming from...he has gardens and cans things too...Too much pioneer style for me. I would not have been a good pilgrim either...my butt would still be in Europe. LOL. Blessings, hope the weekend is nice, xoxo,Susie

  7. My friends love their chickens and collecting the eggs. I think it all sounds very messy. But how sad to have the fox come in and rob them of the chickens. It's crazy windy here still. Hoping for just breezes over the weekend. Happy Easter.

    1. Thank you Noreen. When Emma was here...it was very spring, pretty and cold. Today was warm and wet. My daughter said she was scared for her dog when he went for the fox. Sam weighs about 80 pounds.:) Blessings, hope you aren't snowed in. xoxo,Susie

  9. That's too bad that they lost chickens to a predator. When I see those pictures, it kind of makes me want to have chickens again... -Jenn

  10. Oh, look at that big old rooster! That's too bad that fox got most of the chicken eggs, Susie. It's warmer up here too, and should be nice for Easter.
