Well our little backdoor deck is done, mostly . We still have the ground trim to put in . This deck will hole the wood box this winter, making carrying in wood, not so messy. It measures 10 ft. x 8 ft.
You can see it's raining here this morning. This wood will need to dry out till next spring to be stained and sealed. It's pressure treated. We may add a bench along the side later.
Now I call this one big ugly eye sore. It's the power meter and panel. The water hose , the cable and phone entry. In my way of thinking...this water should not be this close to the power. Now, I have to come up with a design to hide all this and look good too.
I remember early in spring when I filled my containers, I thought it looks sparse and many of you told me it would fill in and look good.. It did and it did look good all spring and summer. Now the flowers a fading. Time for a fall décor.
This is the first time I have use creeping ginny plant...I love it. It looks so good hanging down along the old cedar stump . This stump is from a tree that was in my parent's yard. I loved the smell of that tree, so when it broke down in an ice storm, we saved some stumps. This one is made into a porch table.
I have my new autumn flag hanging out front in the flowerbed. I had to trim the barberry bush a wee bit....it kept grabbing the corner of the flag.:):).
Wishing all of you a great Wednesday. This month is about half over. Enjoy. XO
Wow! The planter is gorgeous! Love it! Love your patio! I've got to get busy with some bulbs so that we will enjoy flowers next Spring. This is foreign to me, so we'll see.
ReplyDeleteBonnie, If you can get some tulip bulbs out this fall...you will be so happy next spring. If you have squirrels around digging..you may want to put chicken wire over the bulbs about ground level. The tulips will grow thru it and the squirrel may not be able to eat the bulbs.

How sweet is your little fall garden flag Susie! I have a new one too! You are really going to enjoy your deck! Hope you are enjoying a lovely week!
ReplyDeleteI have a bigger garden flag on the shed in back...but I like a little one in the front. That little deck is mostly for convenience. We have never sat out back since we moved here. We had planned on it ...but the neighbor would board sheep for a pasture...and they did not ever smell good. :):) Now they will never have them again, the son refuses to have that responsibility. But I like the sunny side of the house better. Front is facing south and the back is shady north. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
Deleteyou have been busy. Susie. Love the deck.
ReplyDeleteSylvia, I only got to help layout the deck and square the corners. I did dig two post holes and help with all the measuring. But Ted was so eager he did all of the work. I will post when I get an idea of hiding all the back of the house stuff. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteWhat a great deck and I just love your flag in your garden! I must get out and get one too, too cute!
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy...one reason I like flag about is to see which direction the wind is blowing.LOL. We have a weather vane on the shop/garage...but I can see my flags from my favorite spot while watching TV or reading. Blessings, xoxo, Susie.
DeleteYou'll enjoy having the wood close by, I'm sure! I love that creeping ginny in the cedar stump. That sure turned out nice, didn't it! I know what you mean about hiding things like the electric meter, etc. We need to do that here, and my high bush cranberry does kind of a good job, except I think the meter reader doesn't like it. Then there's the LP tank. We live on the top of a hill, so there's really no way to hide it. If we had two of them, I could paint one black and one pink, like GoodnPlenty candy. LOL. (just kidding). Thank you for stopping in today and leaving the encouraging comment. I do so appreciate it, Susie! xo
ReplyDeleteJudy, My daughter's gas meter was right at the corner of her house for people to see even from the street. I built her a bench that sat in front of the meter but let the readout window show thru. The gas man was happy and so was Angie. :) Our electric meter reader drives down the road and points a device at our house and it registers our usage, So I could completely cover it here. I thought some lattice would hide it's ugliness but let people know it there.:) Blessings, xoxo, Take care. Susie
DeleteVery nice deck! I love the one my hubby made for me this year.
ReplyDeletedeb
I am dying to pretty this plain little deck up a bit...but think I will wait till spring. I like that it will be nice to sweep the snow off it . Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteYour deck looks great! Love your flag too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Noreen
Noreen, I am wanting a planter and a bench on this wee deck...as Ted doesn't want rails on it since it a step down. Hope you are enjoying good weather...we are going to warm up again. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI bet you're glad that deck is done!!! I love that stump too.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, Yes I am glad it's done. I did not get to help as much as I wanted . That old stump is a memory of the tree as it was in my parents yard. :):) Blessings, love, xoxo, Susie
DeleteIsn't it nice to have a project done? Well, except for the sealing. I still have painting to do outside and it is the middle of September. I love that Creeping Ginny. I have to remember that for next year!
ReplyDeleteAnn Marie, Some times our do lists can get pretty long. I have yet to re-paint the wood box. I like the way the creeping ginny hangs down from window boxes and planters. But I saw where Mountain Mama grew a patch of in on the ground and it was nice that way too. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteYour deck looks great, Susie. It's going to be nice having wood close at hand, to bring in on those chilly nights. Oh, I love the fact that the tree stump was in your mother's yard. How special that you took it home with you and made it into a porch table. Love your Autumn flag, Susie. There's just something about red pick-up trucks, isn't there?
ReplyDeletelove, ~Sheri
Sheri, I loved my new flag. Yes, I love old pick-up truck so much. Building a wood box and having it at the back door was my idea..cause Ted was taking the wood to the basement on a rack ...that was a lot of up and down stairs...this is going to be so much nicer. I remembered coming home from school and walking past that cedar tree and smelling it's fragrance...so that is why I wanted a stump of it. It was a stool for awhile then Ted put a top on it and now it's a table. I love it. Blessings for a great day there. Love, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI love your creeping plant! I think I have some of the same!
ReplyDeleteYour new deck looks great!! That will be so handy this winter!
No rain here and still hot and humid. I am SO yearning for some fall like weather. None in the forecast for any time soon.....
Linda, Glad to hear from you. Hope your toe is coming along better than the last surgery. Yes, I am glad the deck done for now. I will pretty it up come spring. Today will be pretty here and then it is going to warm up again. Blessings, take it easy, love, xoxo, Susie
DeleteGreat job on the deck! You will enjoy it. I like your Fall flag, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen. I am happy the deck is complete, 3 more boards to seal off the bottom from critters. The flag has a dog, flowers and apples on it ...that looked like fall. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteLove your deck...it looks great!!
ReplyDeleteDid you build the backdoor deck yourself? I think you did a great job with it. You are right about keeping the power away from the water. I hope you were able to find a way to cover it up in a stylish manner. Your containers and plants look great, and I love your autumn flag in your flower bed.
