Monday was a beautiful day. Not a cloud in the sky. Not too hot either. Plus a pretty sunset to end the day.
Kathy's rose bush that lives here with me, produced a beautiful rose for her while she stayed with us, this past weekend. It made her smile.
While Kathy, Ted and I were in the town of Kirkland on Saturday, I saw this milk glass collection in one of the shops. Some unusual pieces.
I am not sure what that bowl is that's sitting on top of a compote bowl.
I have never seen one of these, ever. It looks like it's right out of the Fifties. An orange colored metal stand, with an ice bucket in the center....surrounded by tall colorful glasses. Maybe for ice tea? cocktails?
This long table was made from boards just sawn from a tree. The bark was still on the edges. Same for the benches. Shellacked with a glossy finish.
You may not believe this...but this was my only purchase on Saturday. A big jar candle. Bourbon Maple Sugar....smells so good. There was one burning in the shop and it's fragrance filled the room, I could not resist. Suppose to last 80 hours. mmm:):)
Hope all of you have a great Tuesday. XO
Hi Susie! For some reason your blog isn't showing up in my feed. I'll have to go back and catch up with you. Looks like you had a wonderful time in Kirkland. I would love to visit that shop. I'll bet your house smells wonderful with that candle burning.
ReplyDeleteKathy, I never know when I can leave comments on some blogs. I have visited with Linda at Linda's life journal for years now and When I leave a comment my computers pops up with warnings...as if totally locking up. But I can go back later and it works. I don't know if it's blogger or just my computer or our carrier service. Ted's says the latter. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteWhat a fun day you had! That candle looks beautiful and I'm sure the fragrance is wonderful. I'm a candleholic so I always notice them! :)
ReplyDeleteWould you believe it's so terribly hot still here? High 90's and yesterday we had a heat index of 107* ~ just miserable.
Hope you have a blessed week!
xo
Pat
Pat, That heat index is horrible. It's ten degrees above normal here this week. But not as hot as it has been. Summertime was a rough one. I like spice candles the best. :):) Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteSusie,
ReplyDeleteI just love your adventures all around in our area!! I'm putting that town on my "visit" list for our Fall weekends when we just run around the countryside looking our eyes full and finding the most amazing things.
The orange cocktail caddy is a real memory---we never had one, but several friends' parents had one in their living room---not quite so BRIGHT, mind you, but that one speaks of the true fifties era---Lucy and Ricky and Cuba and mambo and cha-cha and cocktails in bright glasses. I don't think I've ever seen one so exuberantly evocative of the time. (At least what I imagined it to be, from the shows on our TV and magazine ads).
And wasn't yesterday just a GIFT??!! It was absolutely perfect.
rachel
Racheld, I think you would like that town of Kirkland...Lots of fun shops, not far north of Indy. Oh yes, Lucy and Ricky is one of the shows I think of with things from the fifties. I just knew as soon as I saw that quirky piece it was from the era. I wish you had a picture of your friends' parent piece. Yesterday evening around 7:30, I called Ted out on the porch and told him to just stand still and breathe...it was totally perfect. I could sure live like that.

Glad your Monday was a beautiful one! The candle looks so cozy and pretty ♥

Hi Summer...you know those rare days?? well Monday was certainly one here in central Indiana. I wish you could smell this candle. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI love milk glass and candles...what brand is the candle...I want one with that same fragrance...
ReplyDeleteBJ, The candle is made in the U.S.A. also. I always am glad to buy American. You can check them out at : swancreekcandle.com The tag says lead free, clean burning, intensely fragrant, soy wax. Swan Creek Candle Company...They had some cedar scent too...I love those at Christmas time. It's a 12 oz. candle. :) Hope you can get some info to see if they are carried in your area. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteHow fun! You find the best shops to go to. I love the milk glass collection too. That candle scent sounds interesting! Hope you have a great day!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Noreen
Thank you Noreen. Today was a pretty day here. I have seen milk glass for years, I know people collect it...but I do not own one piece. My aunt had some when I was growing up. This candle smells like maple syrup. LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteBeautiful pictures. That candle sounds wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteJudy
I have been enjoying this candle. I love to burn them in fall and winter more than summer. Bless you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteSusie, looks like a cute shop and my candles never seem to last that long, as I love to burn them probably more than I should, but who can resist those beautiful smells?..Happy Tuesday..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteJudy, I really hate when a candle burn down the middle and leaves the outer edge not burning. :( But they can use the excess in those melting things. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteYes, I have a difficult time getting out the door if something is being featured in a shop. That candle would be hard to resist...often music comes home with me, too. =D
ReplyDeleteThere's store in a town south of us that play French music lots of times and I have always thought I would like a CD...but have yet to get one. Blessings to you Vee, hope you are doing well. xoxo, Susie
DeleteI really like that table and benches and the rose makes me smile, too. I remember in the early 70's having a set of glasses with silver on them and a matching silver bowl in the middle for ice.
ReplyDeleteNonnie, I love hearing what people know about items that I have never seen before or not known their uses. While in one shop A sweet lady well into her 80's told me that the little crescent shaped dishes were used for bones from fish or chicken...having been raised with a dish and fork, no fancy china at our house...I had no clue what that little dish was for...so I was learning from a motherly type and it made my heart smile. We are never too old to learn. I love that. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI can smell your candle from here. It's so pretty, Susie. And I really like that long table, it looks sturdy. It would be nice for a breakfast table. The milk glass reminds me of the 50's. My mom never had it, but I got to be familiar with it on my friend's blogs. :) You had a fun day shopping on Saturday, Susie. :)
ReplyDeletelove, ~Sheri
Sheri, This candle smell like a nice maple syrup with spicy undertones.:) I wish we had that long table while growing up. Hope you are having some fun days there. Can you even believe it's autumn already? Summer seems to have grown wings the last month...Blessings, love you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI am sorry that I haven't been by for a visit. I have been having computer issues. I took on another browser so we will see what happens. Your new deck looks real nice and will be so helpful in the winter time. I didn't know where Kirkland was so I looked it up on the Google map. It looks like a nice place to shop. I love your new candle too.
ReplyDeleteHoney, I know what troubles on the computer are like...I have had them and some times still do. My husband says our server is the slowest and worst. LOL. Glad you could locate Kirkland, Indiana. I know it's not the only town with so many antique shops...but it was fun for me. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteIt's always fun to see vintage pieces. My mom had a lot of milk glass. I remember when the florist flower arrangements arrived in milk glass vases. Our temps are slowly cooling; it has been so hot and dry this summer.
ReplyDeleteHi Mildred, Now that you have mentioned it, I recall those vases. Glad it's cooling for you there. It was a hot summer. Not enough in some places and way too much in others. The weather patterns are changing, it seems. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
