It's The Weekend.....

Wow, just look at this blue sky. This is a dispersing vapor trail....looked like a big white feather to me. Today is a beautiful day. Played bingo with two of my sisters at the senior center. That is always good for some laughs. Talked with the director about helping her find volunteers.  I suggested making flyers and hanging them in the church on their bulletin boards. She said they had just made some flyers to pass out...so this was a good idea about hanging them in church.
The little viola is still here. It looks a bit worn, but it's alive. Such spirit.
You can see what a pretty day it is . Even the grass is looking green.  This will last thru the weekend, then get rain.
This is where a hawk has killed and eaten a dove.  What can you do ?  Nature takes it's course. I think it's sad and would much rather a hawk eat a field mouse than a bird. Wonder why that is.
Wishing all of you a great weekend.  Smile  or make someone smile.  XO

    1. Linda, This next month is usually our snowiest...so I am sure we are no where near the end of winter here...but I still tell my husband, "51 more days till spring". LOL I just want to see flowers and hear birds singing. Blessings to you, xoxo,Susie

  2. That's so neat that the little flower is peeking up despite the chill. It is disconcerting to see a bigger bird prey on a little bird. I guess because they are the same family. xoxo Su

    1. Su, I know that is the way of nature...but when a hawk eats and song bird or a gentle dove..it just seems sad. Hoping there will be some birds singing soon...I am ready for spring. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  3. I feel the same way Susie, because I love birds, but yes, their instincts are out of our control. We have a big owl in a nearby and also a couple of hawks and they hunt the feral cats here in the country and it breaks my heart. They had better be getting the mice as well, by darn!
Your blue sky is a beauty, and your grass is so green! Here it has been snowing all day and I had planned to drive the sixty miles to where I am able to shop, but didn't want to be on the roads today. I hope the groceries last :))))
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
    sending hugs...

    1. June, I don't know if I could stand to see a hawk get a cat. They seems too much like pets even if they are feral. Oh I hope your food supply last long enough too. If I had to go that far to shop..I would have to have a pantry and a couple freezers.LOL.Blessings to you and your family. Hope your weekend is a good safe one. WE may get rain late Sunday, so I am going to enjoy this sunshine. xoxo,Susie

  5. You have no snow on the ground-wow is all I can say! I have to tell you that the other day I looked out and a hawk had either a black bird or a robin and it was on top of our pergola, he was plucking all the feathers off-I told hubby to go shoo it away as I was concerned that the hawk would drop blood and body parts on our patio and the dogs would either get spattered or eat something. Yuck. So the hawk with bird in its beak flew off. I get grossed out by those types of things. Hope your lovely weather continues-we are supposed to get snow this Sunday-Wednesday.

    1. Noreen, You did right running the birds away...cause I think pets might be sniffing around on any dead parts.Better to not take chances. We may get rain late Sunday. So I am enjoying the sunshine. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  6. Oh, that's so sad. I can't stand to see any critter suffer. I had a hawk attack my chicken once and leave it struggling, half dead. That's why I don't have chickens any more - it was pure torture to have to put that critter out of its misery!!

  7. Hi Susie, what a beautiful winter day you're having there. Your little yellow viola has a good lesson to teach us during the winter storms, doesn't it?

I feel the same way--wish the hawks would eat mice instead of the doves. I worry about their mates that are left. It really bothers me when I see feathers littering the ground when nesting season is here.

Its is sad that creatures are eaten but we eat creatures as well and just because we do not see their face it doesn't make it much different,,I suppose,

  9. It was nice to see your green grass. We have piles of snow 24-36 inches around here. But every day it's a little less.

I'm glad your viola made it. It reminds me that spring is coming despite the snow. I can't wait.

  11. You're so funny! I guess doves are cuter than mice! And us girls always hate to see anything bad happen to cute stuff. I was just commenting about how we still have some green grass this year. I LOVE IT! I had bees out yesterday. And I think it's supposed to get warmer tomorrow. And I noticed that KOKOMO brick. I had a whole patio out of them at our other house!

    1. Cindy, I love birds more than mice. too. You mentioned the Kokomo brick..my gosh, we made a patio in town and dug them and made a patio with aroof out here...then dug them and made a walkway and little area at the front steps from the porch. I know these bricks too well. LOL. Ted keeps saying he'll make me a greenhouse shed where we had the patio...Be collecting windows and doors. I hope your bees will be okay...I do not think our winter is over...but spring is near. We heard a robin chirping today. :):) Bless your heart, xoxo,Susie

  12. We have a hawk that has come every year for at least five years, and the little mourning doves are the dinner for him or her. It's so sad because the little doves just eat grain, and they kill nothing, but the hawk eats meat. I am sure it makes a balance in nature but it sure is sad. The gentle doves are so vulnerable.

    1. You are so right. I love hearing the doves coo and they mate for life. As long as that hawk keeps hanging around , we won't have songbirds. Hope you have a great weekend, blessings, xoxo,Susie

  16. It is the circle of life but I dread seeing a hawk here in our neighborhood. Hawks actually have no predators that I can think of. Once we were sitting in the gazebo and a hawk silently swooped down from over the house and picked up a little bird that was eating seed under the feeder and glided off with it in his mouth. Made me so sad....and yet I know hawks have to eat too.

    1. Linda, I saw a hawk once carrying a chippie and that did not bother like when it's birds. I love our birds here. I see more hawks than we used to have...they may be getting very plentiful here. Hope your weekend is fun and relaxing. Blessings, love you, Susie

  17. I am so pleased to view and read that your winter is not as severe as it was last year, Susie.

Natural selection is a little hard to comprehend sometimes. I would imagine that food for a hawk is difficult to find during the winter months.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  21. That little viola still lives through the snow and winter weather. I'm glad you took a picture of it, Susie. This story is very special and one you'll remember always. :)

The dove is a special bird, indeed. Wish that hawk would have preyed on some other critter.
