This the catalpa tree in bloom. It has big heart shaped leaves and long brown bean pods. It is a late blooming tree. Always nice to drive by a woods and see one .They just stand out when in bloom.
The winds took some blooms off the tree. They really don't last long and it will look like it snowed in this corner in a few days. You can see them on the ground here.
The winds yesterday during the worst part of a little storm , twisted a limb from this maple. It did no damage. Thankful for that. Took this shot just now(Sunday).
Then the skies cleared up and it became a pretty evening. But it truly was a dark dreary day after lunch till about 6:00 pm. Now today the sun is shining and it's to be a bit cooler. In the 70's , not the 80's. Hooray for that.
I may be painting some of my porch containers today. Oh yes, you know I will post about it. That's what we do. :):) Going to Angie's for brunch right now. Wishing all of you well. XO
We had a catalpa tree in our back yard in Texas. I prefer maple. It's suppose to reach 100 here today, highly unusual but it happens.
ReplyDeleteMaple trees give us a prettier color than any other or so it seems. Most of our trees just turn brown in the fall. Bless you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteThose trees are so lovely but I didn't know the name of them...
ReplyDeleteWe are getting a nice rain today. So no outside things. But we won't have to water the pots!!!
Tessa
Tessa, I had to smile, yes, no watering the porch plants. LOL. Today the sun is out and next week will be milder. Oh happy day. Bless you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI've always loved the name of the catalpa tree, sounds so sweet and old-fashioned, doesn't it? So glad your heat wave has eased up for a while.
ReplyDeleteDewena, The first I ever heard of this tree...was the caterpillars of the Sphinx moth will be on this tree and good to use fishing....but if a tree gets too infested it will die. The blossoms are very pretty...I just wish they lasted longer. Bless you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteIt's rainy and gloomy here today - quite different from the lovely weather we had yesterday!
ReplyDeleteToday will be good to rest for those sunny days. :):) The way you garden , you probably could use a rest. :). Bless you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteHi Susie, That is a pretty tree. We had thunderstorms yesterday and thru the night. No damage thankfully. I know you enjoyed brunch. Hope the new week is very nice for you.
ReplyDeleteMildred, I love storms if they do no damage. The air is almost purified after a good storm. Hope your week ahead is fine and enjoyable. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
Deletehahhaa, you are so right..ANYthing we do that is blogging fodder, we post it. xo
ReplyDeleteWe've had big winds here, too...always do in the spring.
BJ, I talked about you at my daughter's brunch. ..I told her you can whip up anything in a heart beat and it always looks delicious on your blog. I got that frittata recipe of yours and gave it to her and she had made some. Today has been too windy to do the painting I wanted to do. It will have to be later. Bless you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteCatalpa trees are beautiful Susie. Sounds like you are having a fun day. We had a lot of rain and winds last week, but now it's hot this week.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
Jann, The weather beens mixed up from the beginning of the year. We had 80"s in April, May and June so far. This week is to be the 70's and by the weekend, it could be in the 90's. To me that's more like August. I don't like real hot temperatures. But anything beats winter for me. LOL Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteWe had a catalpa tree when I was growing up and used the beans to pretend we were cooking...along with our mud pies! heehee! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteDiane, I loved your pretend dinner...mud pies and beans. One summer Emma and Savannah painted some of the bean pods to look like snakes. I thought that was cute. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteThe trees have a hard time in those storms.Hope they recover..Enjoy your lunch...and your week.
ReplyDeleteHi Missy, We have that limb cut to pieces and hauled to the burn pile. was not so bad...no damage to anything. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteOur trees have suffered greatly this year with all of the heavy rain and storms. Seems like I have to pick up branches just about every morning. Glad it didn't break the Maple tree branches.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to sunshine.
Judy
Judy, I love the thing you made with your Nana's stuff. I liked seeing the grandkids too. I sure wish I could see my great grands.:) Ted has already cut the limb up and hauled it away. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI don't know if I know what a catalpa tree is or if I've ever seen one. Sunday was a dreary day here but today is spectacular.
ReplyDeleteBoston Boy, I do not where all the catalpa grows. I know the sphinx moth lays eggs on it's leaves and the caterpillars are use for fish bait. But if the worm isn't gotten rid of it eventually kills the tree. Our dreary day was Saturday and Sunday was so pretty. Hope you are doing well and looking forward to moving back to your neighborhood. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI ink I remember seeing a tree like that and I think it was in one of the Carolinas. Is that possible? Where we grew up, there were a lot of mimosa trees and we loved playing with the pods on them pretending they were food when we played house. We are having beautiful weather here now.
ReplyDeleteNonnie, I am not sure how many zones a catalpa tree can survive in. But I would not be shocked to see them in the south . Diane of Lavender Dreams said she used bean pods to play like they were beans when young. So funny. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteWhat an interesting tree Susie! I have also seen Mimosa trees that were beautiful. We have a big pine tree that needs to be cut down-so it doesn't block our neighbors view.
ReplyDeleteHope you have fun painting.
Hugs,
Noreen
Noreen., It's odd how we become attached to trees . I miss the shade of our hickory...we still have a bout 5 big limbs...so we did not cut it down yet...It got the top torn out last Spring. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI've never heard of a Mimosa or a Catalpa tree, but then we live in the desert. How about that sage anyway haha. It truly is a beautiful tree! Our temperature today is 105!
ReplyDeleteHi Saimi, You can read up on these tress on line. Gosh I love finding things on line and learning. I knew the catalpa has caterpillars some times. Not ours, but some....but I did not know they were from the sphinx moth. 105...oh honey, that's too hot for me. Or is it what some in the southwest call a dry heat? Bless you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteSusie,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by!! I have been spray painting like crazy....different things from the patio and yard...
Have a great week!!
Hugs,
Deb
What a great tree! I wouldn't want to be around when it "sheds"....allergies! We have had crazy weather here too...dark and dreary, then sunny, then dark and dreary all within a few hours. Our weather guys can't predict any of it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty tree, Susie. I'd love to see the heart-shaped leaves. It must be a sight when the ground looks like a blanket of snow. I can't believe it's raining and storming in some areas right now. It's getting warmer here in California every day.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week, Susie.
love, ~Sheri
Sheri, I should have taken a close up of the leaves. I just saw in a woods that's near a road we travel to get to Kokomo(town north) two of these catalpa trees. You can see the flowery tops . The next couple of day will be spring like and come Friday it's to be over 90...that's just crazy weather. Enjoy the rest of this week. Bless you, xoxo, love, Susie
