A Walk About....

For me a walk about isn't a long journey here. It's quiet on the porch ...no company for some time now.
As I walked around with my camera looking for pretty things, I had a bird fly right past me. She came from this clematis. It was a wren. She was making a lot of noise for so small a bird.
When I looked in ...sure enough, there was a tiny little nest with one egg.  This nest is the size of a teacup. Now I'll have to watch for a new bird baby. :)
More of the lilies are blooming by the water feature.  From the looks of all the buds, there should be many flowers .  I trimmed some of the leaves.
So here's a shot of that volunteer viola. Snugged into a crack near the steps. I did give it a drink of water everyday.
Thank you dear blog family for your kind thoughts and prayers for my daughter Karen and my family. I truly appreciate all of you.   Wishing everyone a great day. XO

  1. How exciting to find a nest with an egg. I hope you can take pictures of the baby bird when it arrives. That little viola is a fighter. I can't imagine how it survived so long.

  2. That would be about the size of my walk-about too! I know I should do more. But so far, it hasn't happened. -sigh-

We seem to have wrens in the vines around the pool fence. And yours, is in a vine. I don't think they are the best of places, but wrens have been around for a long time. So who am I, to question??? ,-)

With wishes, that you can have peace, while waiting this outcome... Not easy. But we know, worry doesn't do a bit of good, in any way. Not always easy to put it in practice... though...

    Gentle hugs,
    Tessa

    1. Tessa, I was surprised about the egg in the nest...but then I never know how many times birds lay eggs and raise the babies. Their nest are just laid in amoung the vines...no mud glue..like many other birds. Although the robins lost nests here in high winds. :( I spoke with my daughter last evening, that helped me . I know what you are saying about worrying..Haha , I inherited my mom's big old worry gene. She was the worst..of course she had 11 children ...that alone would make me nuts. :) Blessings for a great day, xoxo, Susie
P.S. Thanks for the kind words.

    1. Hi Linda, For tiny little things the wrens and the violas are pretty hardy. I some times wonder how such a small bird survives the storms. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. AnnMarie...some times I have no where else to go but walk around out here. I try to look at what is growing or if the bird feeders need filled. That is how I saw the poison ivy in the English ivy bed..Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  8. Looks like a House Finch's egg, such a gorgeous shade of blue.
I'm able to walk around my porches with a cane, but not much further at this point, so I would consider my walk a walkabout :)
Your porch looks so inviting Susie.
    Have a wonderful weekend !

Karen is taking a trip this weekend to the town where her sister went to college(Bloomington, In. ) They are going to an art museum and then to a town where I used to take the girls for a fall outing so many years ago. 14. Aahh, look at that sweet bird nest with one blue egg. What a special picture that is. Yes, sometimes just talking a walk on our front porch makes us so content and we discover many things. I have the same lilies, but mine are yellow.

Have a nice rest of the week, Susie.

    love, ~Sheri

  15. Typically, wrens will make their nests any place. How fun that you found it. I didn't know Viola would volunteer in a garden. Not in Texas they don't. I guess it is too hot.
    Fun post.
