Sunday afternoon, I was invited to my son-in-law's parents house. It was a cookout for father's day. Even though it was father's day, Fred, (SIL's dad)...did the grilling himself. That's what he wanted to do for his family. It was a bitter sweet day for Mark's family. Fred and Dee had sold their home , that they raised the children in and lived in for 49 years. They have been going to Arizona for the past 5 years though winter. So they decided it was too much work to maintain two homes.
After living that long in one place, people can accumulate lots of "stuff". So Mark's mother was giving away purses and cookbooks. I was delighted to get this cookbook for soups. It has so many nice recipes . It says there's 199 recipes for soups, chili, and chowders. This is my kind of cooking....the one pot meals. :):)
We got our yard cleaned up yesterday. We picked up branches and debris. I swept the driveways and raked. Ted mowed. He also helped the neighbor do a repair to his siding. So it's peaceful here today. I am looking forward to a quiet weekend. Hope all of you are also. Enjoy. XO
What a lovely idea... To give away things accumulated, over many years, in a house. Lovely...
ReplyDeleteI can see why it would be too much, to keep 2 homes. I wish them well, in their Arizona home.
Yes, hope it will be a peaceful weekend. Because I worry about the next weekend. -sigh-
Gentle hugs,
Tessa
Tessa, It will be two weeks of people doing firecrackers. LOL. You know they never do them all at once. Mercy, I would not want to take care of two houses. I can barely keep this one up. When Dee showed her daughter a lot of boxes from the attic..Missy said there was no way she even wanted to look at it..just throw it out. I guess she thought she had not known of it, why bother. I sure wish I were better at getting rid of things. Hope you have a great weekend. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI love one pot recipes. Certainly can identify with selling a home you've lived in for many years. It's a lot of work getting rid of stuff. Hope your week-end is nice.
ReplyDeleteLinda, I love the mingling of flavors together in one pan meals. I do lots of oven roasting bag meals and crock pots too. I sure hope you and Bob have a wonderful relaxing weekend. I am ready for some quiet time. Bless you, xoxo, Susie

ReplyDeleteHi Patti, Me too girl. I like the having soups in the fridge for a quick warm up meal. Add a sandwiches and it's a full meal. I like serving corn muffins with some of my soups. ReplyDeleteKaren, There's nothing as good as fresh veggies. My daughter, whose name is Karen. :):), grows veggies. She showed me some peas she picked already. She did not have many, I did ask her if she could put them in a salad. Blessings to you for a great weekend, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI know that cat noise that you were talking about. I used to say my cat was barking at the birds . One pot meals are great, even the leftovers. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteMissy, I had a feeling you would know what I meant. Yes, I love having some good left-over to just warm up at a moment's notice. Hope you can get some showers, no storms. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI love one pot cooking too. I also collect cookbooks from yard sales and thrift stores. Many times, I never try a recipe...I just like looking! lol I hope you both will have a very nice weekend. xoxo
ReplyDeleteMildred, I like to read recipe even if I am not going to use them. If it's simple enough, I'll try. I just have never made things that take half a cabinet of ingredients. Blessings, stay cool this weekend, xoxo, Susie

DeleteSounds like a lovely day. I like to make homemade soups as well. It is more of a fall / winter thing for me. Glad to hear you didn't suffer too much damage from the storm. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteJenn, I really do like to heat my kitchen up in summer. I call summer salad days. Just like a big pot of soup or stew...you can make salads every which way too. :) I slept the next night after our storms, so well. I finally could relax. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI can't imagine clearing out a house after 49 years! But, lucky you to get the cookbook.
ReplyDeleteCarol, Dee did give all her children tons of pictures and even papers and grade cards of their when they were kids. I did the same thing when we moved here. I think now I would just haul it all to the goodwill or Salvation Army. Blessings for a fun weekend, xoxo, Susie
DeleteOh Susie, I love soups, I don't think I care what they are...lol Of course you know..we all have our favorites! But, then we'll find a new one that we add to our favorites list. I sure you will find one in this wonderful new cookbook!
ReplyDeleteI know what they are feeling like, trying to downsize and get rid of things. My process is a slow go...
Stay cool..
Blessings,
Gert
Gert, I love soups and stews also. I have changed up some of my old favorites. Like now when I make potato soup, I have sliced carrots in it for a bit color. I have always used onions and celery, now the carrots just add a little more. I also put diced tomatoes in my chili. Blessings, hope you are doing well. Love, xoxo, Susie
DeleteWhat a nice cookbook you got, Susie. I really like soups and stews in the cold months. It looks like you are doing a lot around the house. I bet the outside looks wonderful. :)
