Stuffed To The Max.....

This is not the Goodwill store....it's my closets. This top photo is the closet that holds all the clothes I wear everyday. The next two photos are what I call my cruise wear closet.  Who am I kidding, there is no way I'll ever wear out the clothes I own.  I have clothes hanging on the sides !!!! I really wonder how much of our childhood makes us collect stuff. (clothes, junk, shoes, junk, dishes, junk) I remember having two dresses in 1st grade. I would wear one for a whole week, taking it off after school and hanging it up for the next day. Sometimes I wonder if that is why I loved clothes so much. Notice I said, loved. Since I can not wear fancy shoes any more....I am not so into buying lots of clothes. I need to thin these closets out ...really thin them out. Or, open my own Goodwill store. :):)

  1. I hear ya! Here is what I've been doing since we moved. Everytime I wear something I hang it back up BACKWARDS. I can't wear it again unril i've gone through the frontwards hanging clothes. When I get to the point that "i have nothing to wear" and still have the frontwards hanging clothes i put them in the garage sale pile. It's ridiculous! I have clothes I haven't worn in years. Why?

  2. I just purged my closets, too, Susie. I didn't have many school clothes either and went clothes crazy when I got my first real job. I used to have shoes to match every outfit...and big hats back in the 70's. Oh-yes- I understand very much how you feel- xo Diana

  3. I purged my closet just before Christmas and then was appalled that I really had so little left! How could I like something last year, but not this year? So I shopped a little and bought a few sweaters and some knock around clothes. I guess I just love new, pretty clothes to wear, they lift my spirits!

  5. I definitely believe that it is our childhood/past that influences our buying habits today. My closet needs a real going through! Thing is, I think I've worn most of what is in there during the past year or two. It is a good project for a rainy day, and that's what we're having today.
Spreading sunshine to you, though, Susie, with a big smile! Hugs, Nellie

  6. I grew up in a big family and no nice clothing to speak of. I understand exactly what you are saying.

I have cleaned a lot of my things out for goodwill.

  7. Susie,
I loved this post because I have always been into clothes, ever since I was a young girl. My mom used to make my clothes and even made my wedding dress. I know what you mean though, now that I'm older, I don't appreciate all the fancy clothes any more. Comfort is a priority for me. Good luck sorting and giving away. You should do a before and after post. Wouldn't that be fun?

  8. If I got rid of everything I did not wear I know I'd have 1/4 of what I have now. I always keep thinking I might have an occasion to wear one...might have a party to go to, you never know.

When you see the tiny closets in old houses on House Hunters you have to wonder why we need such huge ones now.

  10. Dear Sweet Susie,
I have been so encouraged by your kind comments on my blog. Thank you so much! I can't believe I didn't realize YOU had a blog, too!! I am now your 'newest' follower! Your closet sounds like mine! We must be kindred spirits!
My closet is small and I change out fall/winter and spring/summer seasons - often without wearing most of them! Our secret is we haven't changed sizes so we just KEEP everything! Looking forward to keeping up with YOU now!

  11. I have way too many clothes that I never wear. I try to choose something different...but end up wearing my favs! My closets are packed, too!

  12. My closets and drawers have gotten a good going over. There's actually a lot of closet space. I wear a limited range of clothes -- a lot of turtlenecks in the winter -- and have given away things I don't wear. My last big bunch was after Hurricane Sandy and our synagogue did a massive coat drive. Haven't missed a thing and can't imagine why I didn't do it sooner. Next is shoes. I wear about three pairs of shoes and I probably have twenty.
P.S. Thanks for your sweet comments.
