I took this picture of two female hummingbirds fighting. They fight for the feeders. They start at the feeder then go up in the air and back to the feeder again.
All the while they are chirping. You could hear there buzzing sounds as they we swooping around the feeder.
So I just stood by the feeder and caught a shot of this female landing on the perch. Then I notice the nectar is down to the flower parts....so I fill it again. They squabbled all afternoon. Today will be more fighting , I am sure. Although I have another feeder not far from this one . My neighbor lady has a feeder also. I think if I had twenty feeders they would still fight for food. I will be bringing in our feeder after this month. In our area we feed the hummingbirds from April to October. They start migrating soon.
Hope everyone will have a beautiful Sunday. XO
Good morning sweet friend! We saw a hummer yesterday come up to the balcony. We have had a feeder up there in years past and I guess they were wondering if we were going to feed them while we are here. Enjoy your day! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteDiane, I think hummingbirds are so precious. I have enjoyed ours this year. I saw Emma today and told her I let you know she was cheering. :) Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteHi Susie,
ReplyDeleteI have only one hummingbird that comes for the hanging geranium flowers. She loves them. They are the sweetest creatures even when they fight over territory lol! Happy Sunday my friend.
Kris
Kris, I love these hummingbirds so much. I enjoy our finches, the robins ...I have been telling them as I see them hopping about , how much I love them and was glad they had some little ones on our window sills. It is okay to be crazy when your old like me. LOL. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteSo I guess 'Bird Nature' is close akin to 'Human Nature!'
ReplyDeleteLinda, I think the two fighting are females. :):) They make a strnge noise. Like chirping. Blessings, love, Susie
DeleteOh, I would have loved to seen the hummingbirds in motion, Susie. I love this special bird, and the sound it makes is really something, isn't it? It's hard to describe and very unusual. That must have been a sight to see the hummingbird right at your feeder. Wonderful pictures that made my day.

Sheri, I just stood still and they fought all around me..it was strange, although I have seen them fighting over feeders at our friends house and they had four feeders in a row.. The sound seemed like a chirping sound, maybe it's their warning. catching that one landing is fun. Bless you, love, Susie
DeleteI'm sure you enjoy watching them and I'm sure they Love coming to visit your feeders! Blessings for a wonderful week ahead! Cindy
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy, I enjoy watching our birds. We feed them all. Usually in winter it's most doves, cardinals. We have had grosk beaks and nuthatches. Hope your week is a sweet one also. xoxo,Susie
DeleteGreat hummer shots..They are fun to watch..I took mine down several weeks ago for lack of interest..:) Have a wonderful week..
ReplyDeleteMissy, Do you think your hummingbirds have started their migration? I just go by my bird book when to feed them. Blessing, xoxo,Susie
Deletep.s. we are going to miss our birdies soon.
Great pictures! How can you tell they are females? I notice we always have one hummingbird who keeps the others away.
ReplyDeleteNonnie, The male has the ruby red throat and these two do not. I think we only get that species of hummingbird here. Our bird book says to stop feeding them the first of October. So they will be leaving our area soon. I love the sweet little things.I would love to find one of their nest. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteWe watch them fight over the feeder by our front porch too. Very territorial little creatures. So cute though.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh when I read your comment on my blog..LOL Too funny. I'm going to take your advice. I'll pick out two of anything and ask him which one. He is a sensitive soul so I am careful. He is much more careful of what he does and says than I am. I need to THINK before I speak..and act. I must think on this. LOL
Mona, With all your pretty flowers, I am not surprised that you have hummingbirds. They are greedy for the food , aren't they. It's almost funny. My husband still laughs about his chose of weather vanes. LOL. We love our boys don't we. Bless you, xoxo,Susie
DeleteI love hummingbirds but we have none around here. I think it's too built up. But I am loving seeing them on your blog and my brother's. That's so funny that they would be fighting over the same feeder when there is another one there. You got a great picture.
ReplyDeleteKathy, I wonder if you had a feeder if you would ever see one there. It always amazed me how they can find the feeders since they are migrating birds. and so tiny. Blessings to you and Joe, xoxo,Susie
