Ready For Summer...Almost

This front flower bed is doing fine. The mums are filling in. None blooming, thank goodness, it would be too soon.
Filled the hummingbird feeders again.  The little black cup is an ant moat...you fill it with water so ants can't  get to and spoil the nectar water.

This is the little "blue eye" growing ...the pachysandra is about to take over the entire bed.  I may just re-locate the blue eye.
Why is it called blue eye when it's  purple?? I have no idea. It's a grassy plant with a tiny purple flower at the end of  long stems.
I have a white iris, it's fairly tall. Just blooming now.
I love the ruffley edges of irises. I need more color here....this is the lily bed, and they are not blooming yet.
Oh my goodness, if I were raising roses for a living, I would be one starving gardener. This poor rose, I am surprised it bloomed. I just started feeding it some rose food this week.
Another pretty sunset this Thursday evening. Not been doing much here this week. Going to the mechanic and stores.  So ready to think about summer flowers here.  This next picture is what I bought at Horton's this week.  It wasn't much and I just loved it.
Wishing all of you a wonderful day. XO

  1. Susie, my neighbor in the back yard has a red feeder just like this, and I haven't seen any hummingbirds yet, but still looking. Your white iris is so pretty; I've never seen them in white before. This is a cute sign, "life is better on the porch." Oh, I wish I had a big porch to sit and watch the world go by. So sorry your roses aren't doing well. Usually roses thrive in the all sorts of weather. Once their roots are in the ground, there's no stopping them. Mine bloomed early, but there were spots on the leaves so I had to get rid of all the leaves and prune the branches and start over again. Now, they are blooming once again and doing well.

    Happy Memorial Day weekend, Susie.

    1. Hi Sheri, I have only seen hummingbirds this year about 4 times. I need to put the feeder back in it's original spot. I am hoping our summer won't be so hot, that I can't enjoy being on the porch. I love a summer breeze. I was so ashamed for you to see my poor pitiful rose. I am still working on the one I have of my daughter's....it's slow growing. I think the frost and cold snaps this spring has hurt some of our plants. Glad you know how to tend to your roses. :):) Blessings, love you girl, xoxo, Susie

  2. I agree with your pretty little sign. Life is better on the porch. Mine is getting an overhaul right now. It'll be ready to enjoy in a couple of weeks. The ant moat was a brilliant idea.

    1. Hi Laurie, It will so nice for you to have a "new" porch to sit on and enjoy your days. We got that moat at Lowe's one year and I have never seen them since. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  3. The sign is very cute. I never tried very hard to grow roses. I found them to be a lot of work and unfriendly with all their thorns to snag you.

    1. Linda, That is why my rose looks so sad...too much pampering needed. I have to plant hardy things..cause I either do not water enough or way too much. Hope you and Bob are having a pleasant weekend, xoxo, Susie

  4. Hi Susie,

I'm fine and thank you for asking. Life building a house has been extremely busy. I never put a time deadline on us, until this year. I said I wanted the "living" level done by summer. We're pushing it, I'm helping, A LOT, and we are almost done. We are both ready for a break from this house. So anyway, I had to take a break from blogging. I'm trying to come back though.
Thank you for sharing all of the Horton's posts. I tend to only get there during their open houses or markets, so it's fun to see what they have in between those times.

Yes, girl, my roses looks like scrapes...so sad. The little rose of my daughters is still trying to grow. I am hoping it will get some blooms. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

  6. Hi Susie,
So happy our summer is finally here. I am loving seeing all the pretty gardens coming to life. My pink petunia's that I do for my hanging baskets etc. attract the hummingbirds. Love to see that they love the pink petunias. Happy Week End.

  8. Love your pictures, Susie. I especially like that white iris! I've never had that colour. (hmmm, do I say colour if it is white?) That sign is perfect! I have hummingbirds now. I watched a "fight" between two hummingbirds last evening - amazing! -Jenn

    1. Jenn, I tell you honey, if you had 20 hummingbird feeders hanging in a row....they would still be fighting over one. They are so territorial about their food. I would dearly love a screened in porch. You can still get the breezes and fresh air...but no bugs.:):) Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

  12. Your flowers are pretty. I like the little blue eye. I've not heard of that before. The iris is beautiful. That is a sweet little sign. A front porch would be nice. We don't really have one, but the back patio is nice. Happy Sunday.

    1. Nonnie, We live in the country and this house had a wee porch over hang and we just built a 12x21 ft. deck on the front..I still call it a porch. It's not my dream porch but we make do , don't we? I had a patio covered deck in town and a tiny screened in porch that I loved. I sure miss that house. LOL. Blessings for a fun Sunday and memorial day. xoxo, Susie

  21. It all looks lovely! I dread the heat of summer but have enjoyed the spring! Everything around here needs a good haircut! So much is overgrown! I admit to loving that English garden look where it's not all manicured but lots of lush growth ! Still, it's a little TOO much right now! The lawn guy will trim up the front the next time he's here. It rained Friday so I'm guessing it will be this coming Friday but rain is in the forecast for then too! I'm on my own in the back but it's just half a yard! Along the decks and by the back pond.
We have never had any luck with hummingbirds! No idea why we can't seem to attract them. I gave up but every year we see an occasional one by itself.
Love your place and how pretty it looks!

    1. Linda, I was so tired of being chilled and I am praying our summer isn't so hot this year. But it's been in the 80's and predicted to be there this coming week. The weekend has felt like long ago summer to me. Whatever that means. LOL. I know that hummingbirds like trumpet shaped flowers and red seems to be their favorite color. I am praying you are feeling more like yourself today. Blessings to all there. Love, xoxo, Susie
