This is our tiny bathroom here...I really hate it. There's barely room to turn around. It is truly the smallest bathroom I have ever had since being an adult. We have a powder room besides this and it is smaller yet.
I was sick of the old mirror, light bar and vanity. SO I decided to paint them. Why didn't you all warn me...you paint one thing, change another and it goes on and on...now I want to paint the walls.
These pictures make the gold walls seem darker than they truly are. I chose a gray paint for everything. But I will not paint the door , woodwork or shelves that Ted made.
When we moved here, I painted this wall to look like bricks. I had seem a small bathroom like this and it had tons of art work hanging on the walls. Storage being short in here we use baskets to hold toiletries.
I have tried to have a touch of Paris,in the art. This little bulletin board holds baby pictures of the kids in the bathtub. Even an old picture of my twins in the tub . Bubble baths you know.
I had this striped rug already, it kind of goes with the gray(which had almost too much blue) . It will do till I find another rug. We have bath mats that go down when taking showers..they are washable. All the bathroom fixings are cheap...I may stay with this for a bit and end up putting in all new. After sanding and painting the vanity , mirror and light bar, I could see how cheaply they were made. Well this is to show you there's no extra space in here at all. My dream would be a much bigger bathroom. LOL
We have sunshine again. I may have to show just a couple more photos of our clematis....since all the buds will probably bloom this weekend. Enjoy your Sunday. XO
Susie, I know what you're talking about with a small bathroom. My husband can stand in the middle of ours and touch the walls by simply reaching out his arms. Tiny room! I think you've done well to change it up. Sometimes that is all that is needed to help us feel better about a space.
ReplyDeleteVee, I am picturing your husband's long arms. LOL. Just teasing. Ours is only as wide as a bathtub is long. When we had a cat(Zoey) she would lay outside the bathroom door and reach under the door and touch the toes of anyone using the toilet. LOL. That use to make my sister scream. LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteThe gray is such a soft color, it looks so much better. I hate small bathrooms too and we're lucky to have a large one here.
ReplyDeleteJanet, Now girl, I am so jealous. LOL. There is no way a person could wear a prom dress and go in our restroom. LOL. This our is 60 years old...but even at that you would think to yourself, "What were the builders thinking??" LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteGrey is a nice soft colour ... we all have to do our best no matter the size of the room ... small, large or in-between!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Sunday
All the best Jan
Jan, I often wondered why they could not have built a bigger restroom/house...this house was the center of many acres of farm land. But I am making do for now...just glad my girls are grown and not living here with us. LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteHi Susie, Great job changing up your bathroom. Sometimes a girl just has to update our next. Hope you have a fantastic Sunday.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Noreen
Noreen, Now I see I really should paint the walls also. It's like one thing leads to another. I am enjoying my Sunday. Had brunch and a nice walk with my daughter Angie. LOL. Bless you, xoxo, Susie
Deleteit looks great,, you certainly have an idea for decorating,,ours is tiny but most apartment bathrooms are,, its just beige and white,, bare,, very plain jane,, just like me, lol,
ReplyDeleteLaurie, I would never think of you as a plain Jane type. :) I picture you loving color. The thing about beige and white...you can change up the pops of color in small accents. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteOur master bathroom is huge, but the other two are very small. Would love to have more room for guests because I always appreciate a bigger bathroom when getting ready at someone else's home. I haven't made any major changes to our house since moving in, with exception of floors which had to be redone due to foundation leaks.
ReplyDeleteNonnie, I laughed thinking about some young girl in a prom dress trying to do anything in this bathroom. :) She would have to take her dress off to use the toilet. LOL. I used to paint all the time. Not any more. The year I helped my daughter paint her new house, just about did me in. It took me 3 days to do this wee bathroom.LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI've always been thankful we haven't had to wear hoop dresses as they did in the 1800's without modern facilities. Can you imagine?
DeleteOurs is tiny too! But I "went brave" and had it painted a deep rosey-red. ,-)
ReplyDeleteA few years ago, we enlarged it, to hold our washer and dryer. But it is still very little.
We do with our spaces, what is fun for us. :-)
Tessa
Tessa, I saw the sweetest little podwer room ...it was years ago in a magazine. The walls were a brown with huge white hand painted flowers , that appeared to be coming for one corner of the room. It was grand. I complain but I know it's okay for now. You are right , some times we just have to do something. Bless you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteOh dear, tiny bathrooms should be against the law. They are forever a challenge.
ReplyDeleteLinda, I so agree. LOL. When My girls were small, so was our bathroom then. Thankfully we had built another bathroom by the time they were teens. That was in town, not here. :) Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteWe have a very small half bath that is hard to decorate. You did a great job painting and I love the color. Pretty shower curtain and the rug is perfect. It always makes me feel happy to change things up once in a while.
ReplyDeleteMildred, I think it was beyond time for a change.LOL. I would love to have it be twice the size it is now. It is hard to decide what we want until we have lived in it. If I were a builder, I would insist upon big closets and bathrooms. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteYour bathroom is cute even though it is tiny. Mine is small but bigger than yours. But when I was a toddler, we had one the same as yours. My mother hated it. She used to sit on the toilet to wash my sister and I in the tub. It was the only way she could reach us.
ReplyDeleteHey Kathy, When we lived in town...it was similar for us while my girls were small....but later we built another bathroom and it was very big. Good thing with 4 teen girls. LOL. It's just Ted and I here...but honestly this room still seems small. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteThe gray makes a big difference, doesn't it? Great with the blues in there. Susie, I wish I could transport one of our bathrooms here to you as all get dusty from not being used except for the 2 we use. But I had one that small at our home in TN and of all things, I painted it orange and loved it for 10 years. And who knows what size bathrooms we'll find when we move again. My only requirement is a safety one, a walk-in shower for me, not a climb over the tub one.
ReplyDeleteDo you ever think of all the families where 6 or more kids grew up in a one bathroom house? They did just fine, I guess. How did they do it?
Dewena, I like the idea of a walk in shower. That's another reason to have a bigger bathroom...as we age and might need better conditions. I hope when you move to your forever house, it's just what you want. I know people make do...but oh my gosh, I would hate to have all my girls when they were teens trying to share this. LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI love the way you changed it around. You sound like me, when I get started I go from one thing to another. I love to make changes, even if it's a tablecloth..lol Hugs, xo
ReplyDeleteI actually do change the table cloth lots. LOL.. I like the old fashioned ones from yard sales.Hope you are feeling well Susie. I think of you every time I read your book. I keep it on my coffee table. Bless you, love, xoxo, Susie
DeleteSusie, I can see why you didn't want to change any of the wood work that Ted made. How did you ever paint that wall to look like bricks. I really like it. It reminds me of my mom's brick kitchen. I love the Parisian touches and the bulletin board with the kid's baby pictures.
ReplyDeletelove, ~Sheri
Sheri, It would be sinful to paint those pretty shelves ted made.:) I used a sponge to paint the bricks. I put many different shades of craft paints on a paper plate and dipped the sponge into them. Then took a small art brush to do touch ups on the mortar lines. I still like the brick look for now. I have some wonderful Paris pictures in there..didn't show them all. You know a bathroom, with hair spray, talc and lint from tissues sure gets to be a dusty place...so it's cleaning all the time. LOL. Yes, I love the pictures of the little ones in the tub. Blessings, love, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI love the touches of grey. Paint is amazing and sure can change things.
ReplyDeletedeb
Deb, It's funny how blue this paint truly looks ...when it's nothing like the gray color I chose.:) It will do for now. I am still wore out for painting. LOL. But feel the walls need to be a cream color. Bless you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI think your bathroom looks so much brighter now, Susie. You did a great job on your little re-do!
ReplyDeleteThe weather here has finally turned to Spring with warmer nights. I don't have to bring the plants in every night...so happy.
Enjoy the new week, sweetie!
Love you.
Debbie
xo
Oh Debbie, What was I thinking?? I truly thought I had bought a throw rug with gray and gold together..heck I must have just looked at it...cause I sure can't find it here. LOL. I also thought that way the gold walls would still work...gaaa, they look awful with this gray. LOL...now I am going to have to paint the walls. But I still like my faux bricks wall. :) I thought maybe the color of the faux mortar between the brick would work ok. That's the way I am leaning at this moment...but then you know how we are..that could easily change. :)I am so glad we don't have to worry about the cold nights any longer. We have the windows open. Blessings to you my dear friend, Love you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteHi Susie! I love your new shower curtain and the update. I hope to paint both of our bathrooms this Summer. You are so correct, one project leads to another.
ReplyDeleteThank you for popping in to visit! I have cut back on my blogging for several reasons. First...my health. My laptop died a couple months ago...( Mr D and I now share). Also, when blogging, I felt like I was neglecting our home.
We just returned from a week "unplugged" in Canada. It's back to work today. When I am back in the groove, I plan to blog one hour a day.
I hope all is well with you and your family.
w/L
Hi Lynne, I have missed you. I hope you are doing better. I think an hour a day would be good to blog. I just pop in and out of the office here and view sites and then comment when I can. I never know for sure what I might post on my blog. I fly by the seat of my pants you know. LOL. I bet you loved your vacation time in Canada. Blessings you and yours, xoxo, Susie
Deletep.s. take care of your health honey.
First of all I thank you for your visit. Your bathroom is quite similar to my sisters bathroom.
ReplyDelete3 weeks down and more than likely another 5 to go. That will also line up with our vacation. At least we will be in a place that we love.
Boston Boy, So glad you are counting the days till vacation. I know you will be more than ready. I pray the weather then is the best. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteWow, you've taken on quite the project! Can't wait to see the finished bathroom - the vanity looks great already!
ReplyDeleteIt's getting up in the 80's here...I may have to wait to paint the walls. :) I could not believe how sore my wrist Got from sanding . I sure hate that part of aging. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteYour tiny bathroom is so cute now everyone is going to want one!!!
ReplyDeleteThe tiniest bathroom I have ever seen was in London. Amber and I were there for her 21st birthday and the place we stayed was so teeny tiny. If you left the suitcase open you had to step in it to get to the door. As you sat on the toilet - you were looking straight down the shower drain. You had to step OUT of the bathroom to pull the flush cord on the toilet! The sink was in the bedroom next to the bathroom door. I'm smiling now at the memories!!!!
Linda, I am still laughing that sure sounds like the tiniest bathroom ever. I thought this things was small. LOL. I know when this house was built...maybe people were thinner.LOL. Blessings, love you, xoxo, Susie
