In A Day's Work...

Why yes, yard sales can be included in a days' work. I stopped at a sale on my way to the grocery.  I loved these dresser scarves and tea towel.  I admire the needlework of others.
I knew the lady having the sale, so I felt safe buying this pillow for the porch. (No fear of bugs) The geranium print goes well with my potted geraniums on the porch.
A cute teapot from Japan. I thought I could use it in decorating, as I only make one cup of tea at a time here. I spent 4 dollars in all. Probably what I saved at the grocery with my coupons. LOL
The highway department was oiling and chipping the secondary road to town, so I took the back roads.  This is a picture of the old school house near me.
It doesn't look so shabby at this distance. Still sad , that our county hasn't stepped up to save it...it's history !!
I found a yucca plant growing in with our lilies the other day. It's bloomed out now. Strange how this happens, a bird or strong wind must have planted it. We have a couple more under the pines.
I tackled this birdnest bush...Trimmed the sides, so I could get to the water faucet behind it. We have a wooden box that holds the garden hose , it sits nicely behind this bush . This bush  was getting kind of wide, so I trimmed it back. It still looks round, so that's good. :):) I told Ted the other day, that the things I have planted that had "dwarf" on the tags, have not grown like a dwarf plant should.  If the label says 2 feet high by 2 feet wide....it should not be 4 by 4.  I think there must be a lot of mislabeling going on at nurseries.
Yesterday was just about the most perfect summer day ever.  Well other than all the traffic on our road from everyone trying to get away from the oiling and chipping of Division road. Some driving way too fast for a country road.
Hope all of you are having a relaxing weekend. XO

  1. I love to see some wide open spaces. The woods around here when it's spring with just the haze of green and in the fall when there's plenty of colors. I hate when outsiders come along and disrupt the area for their own greed. The wind turbines east of our town are no so nice to look at and the power goes elsewhere...not here. I prefer solar panels...they do not stick up in the skyline. LOL. Hope your weekend is going great. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  2. Oiling and chipping a road! I remember that! But they don't seem to do that anymore, around here.

Such a hot job! Feel sorry for those poor hot oil workers.

Lovely weather here too. But that means, we need to water the flowers!!!! :-)

    1. Tessa, There are job that have to be done in the blistering heat. It makes me feel so badly for all those hard workers. You are right, I have been watering in the mornings and another wee drink at evening. Especially if the wind is blowing too. Stay cool, hope your husband has a great day tomorrow. I was practical, I bought Ted a shirt. LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  3. It sounds like chaos on the roads in your area, Susie. The work will probably be done before long. I'd love to drive that country road. They're so peaceful to me.

    Have a blessed weekend.

    1. Sheri, Our towns doing some repairs on the secondary roads . The town where my daughter took me to the zoo...oh my gosh those orange barrels are everywhere. On the main highways and side streets too. Crazy. I know you would love our old country roads. I like to travel them when going other places ..it makes it more like an old summer day from when I was small. You know not so much traffic. Blessings, love, xoxo, Susie

  4. Always enjoy seeing vintage needlework. I always stop a minute to reflect and picture a woman of that time period working on the piece I'm admiring.

    1. Linda, I too think about who sat maybe while watching a favorite old TV show and did their needlework. Or maybe did it on a Sunday afternoon to relax. I remember my mom a couple times doing some...but I would not know where the two things would ever be. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  5. Hi Susie, I love yard sales and especially hand made items like the scarves. The pillow is perfect for your porch. I have a purse full of loose change in the car and that is my yard sale or thrift store money. lol The school looks nice from a distance; so sad not to restore it. Love your pretty flowers and so happy you had a gorgeous summer day. Happy Father's Day weekend. xoxo

  7. You have been very busy, Susie! Perhaps someone will buy the school property and renovate it for a private residence. Wouldn't that be a huge project?!? xo Nellie

    1. Hi Kris, I have a gift ready for Ted in the morning. :) He has already watched his movie. Yes, I would just love to see that old schoolhouse saved. I some times like to drive the back way to town anyway. But not so much when the corn's high...too scary at some corners. I hope Terry enjoys his father's day too. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Hi Ann, That road chipping is a mess. LOL At the sale where I got that pillow, they had a few dishes, nothing like the pyrex you collect though. I have only been to two yard sales this year. Hope you are stay cool. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  11. That pillow will be lovely on your porch. I know what you mean about shrubs. I have some that have spread pretty far and crowded out other plants or shrubs close by. Good thing most shrubs don't mind being cut back! -Jenn

    1. Jenn, I used to trim around on a juniper tree here. My gosh I tried my best , I would use the string trick , wrapping it around the tree and cutting the tips of the branches. Some with good results and other times, not so good. Then a storm knock a big limb from the hickory tree down upon the juniper and broke it...so I will not be replacing that. LOL. I just try my best to tend to the shrubs here. Blessings , xoxo, Susie

  12. You found some real treasures, for sure!! It's amazing the seeds birds plant for us! I have a huge honeysuckle bush where dozens of birds live thanks to a bird who planted it for us!! Honeysuckle is one of my all time favorite smells!!
