Back To The Zoo...

Today my  sister Pam and I met up with  my daughter Karen and granddaughter Savannah. We went back to the little zoo in Lafayette, Indiana.  Pam had never been. It was a hot humid day. We had bottles of water iced down in the car.  We got there in time to see the" snakes alive " show. This is the 40 pound 8'6" boa constrictor. Remember his name is Julius Squeezer.  I want to hold him so badly. They only let us touch a rat snake and it was a skinny baby one.
I thought this was a cute sign.
Julius was very shiny and so pretty. He seemed to like his tree. The young girls who tended to the snakes told us more about them. The boa will continue to grow, up to 16 feet in length.
This is my sister pam, we are going into the butterfly area.  So many gorgeous flowers all over the zoo property.

It was extremely hot in the butterfly exhibit. So hot that I took some quick shot and did not ask about what kind of butterflies there where .
The girl at the door did say they change regularly.
Lots of butterfly bushes and flowers, plus a water feature for them.
This is the train depot. We did get on board the little train and ride around the park a good ways.
Got to see the ponds with the big water fountain. There were lots of ducks and geese. None in this shot.  It was a very hot day but we truly had a fun time and enjoyed it all.  Went to lunch and ate a great meal. Then it was time to come home and call it a day. I don't mind saying I am very tired....I am sure it was the heat.  So I am not doing anything more today.
Hope your Saturday was wonderful. Stay cool my friends. XO

  1. Hope you had a fun day. You would have had quite a job on your hands getting me to go to a zoo on a hot day.

    1. Linda, It was hot for the animals too. They do give them fresh water to drink and play in everyday. Everyone who works there, works hard and have the best manners. Hope you and Bob stayed cool today. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. BJ, Snakes have a plastic feel to them. It took young girls to get Julius Squeezer out of his tote box and draped on that tree stand. I would have loved seeing more butterflies...but it was very hot in that area. My butt was dragging and my tongue was hanging out when I got home. :):)Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. I do not mind snakes if I can sneak up on them instead of them doing the sneaking. I did learn that we have 4 poisonous snakes in Indiana. That surprised me. Hope you are still feeling relaxed from your vacation. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  6. You did well to be out and about in the heat. Glad that you took it easy after that... I am still surprised that you wanted to hold Julius Squeezer...

    1. LOL, that snake had beautiful markings...I kind of just wanted to see if I could hold him....the care takers said no it was too hot. We were only allowed to use one or two fingers to touch the rat snake and only on his back or tail , their head area is too sensitive...as they might bite. Plus the crew made everyone use hand sanitizer after touching. That's a good idea after touching any animal at the zoo. It was a super hot day but fun Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  7. I can't imagine going to the zoo or anywhere else outside yesterday as hot as it was. I planned to attend the fair the last day, but it was just too darn hot!

    1. Carol, This little zoo has lots of shade and water features. Plus the gift shop had AC.:):) Oh when we were young we would have gone to the fair no matter the heat, rain, or whatever. But I would not do a fair in this heat. The zoo had me drained and we went early in the day. Stay cool dear friend, Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Tessa, I think it's more curiousity than bravery. LOL. The first snake I ever saw in person was a huge python...of all places down the street from our house when I was young. It was in a fair exhibit. The handler let us kids touch it to see that it was not slimy. But there was a bunch of feathers around it where they had feed it a chicken. YIKES. I loved the marking of the zoo snake. I wondered what would the Rat snake eat till it looked big enough for a rat. The girl did say if you have snakes that are safe around your home, you would have no mice. LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. JP, When leaving the butterfly area, you had to check to see if any where on you. I think you would know that snake was on you, don't you? LOL. I was amazed at how long it could grow. It was 40 pounds , if it could grow to 16 feet would it double it's weight or get even heavier? Hmmm. Now I have to look that up. My sister loved the butterflies , as she has many involved in her decorating. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    Yikes! A seven foot boa!
I never thought of snakes as cute.
I know what you mean about the heat. Monday looks to be around 97 degrees. I have to say I hate this kind of weather.

    1. Boston Boy, Glad to hear from you. I thought Julius was a beautifully marked snake. The little rat snake was grey colored. The temperatures here are high and the humidity higher. It's unbearable heat. Take care and stay cool. Hope you are moved back into your neighborhood. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Linda, It's fun when a butterfly lands on your arm or back. So they ask that you check to make sure none ride out of the door on you. :):) I do like looking at the snakes too. But crawly bugs , now that is different. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Hi Kris, I really enjoy the butterflies. The area that has that exhibit was so humid. We took a train ride around the park area and that was fun and cool. I am praying we all get a much cooler week . It's too nasty to enjoy the outdoors. Hope you are all doing well. Blessings to all, xoxo, Susie

    1. Linda, That might be fun for you and LD. Thi zoo is a small one..no big cats , or big animals for that matter. There's things from Australia, prairie dogs, otters, miniature farm animals. The Ballpark and playground are in the same area. It's a lot of fun to me. Blessings, love you, xoxo, Susie

  14. Susie, your butterfly pictures are gorgeous. I always try to get pics of the butterfly, but they fly away too quickly. So glad they stayed put for you for awhile. Oh my, look at that huge snake! Can't believe you wanted to hold it! What a fun day at the Zoo with your sister. It's one of my favorite places to go.

It's been pretty hot here lately too. I can't take the heat like I used to. :)

    1. Sheri, You may have to snap faster. :) There were all the favorite flowers for the butterflies, plus small dishes of strawberry slices. The water feature also attracts them. I have never held a snake before, so I thought it would be okay at the little zoo presentation...but the care taker said it was too hot for the snakes. Hmm.I am tired of our extreme heat here. Just love the 60's n 70's. Not the 80's n 90's...that's too hot. Blessings sweet girl, xoxo, Susie
