This is Friday evening 's view of the corn across the road. The wind was blowing very steady.
Saturday around 5 o'clock, the farmer who works the field in front , came to harvest. Hooray, I love when the corn is down, except for the debris that ends up in our yards. LOL. When the corn is tall for many months, I feel hemmed in. It took the farmer two days on this big field, because he stopped and started again yesterday afternoon. At 9:00 P.M. , they were done and leaving.
So this morning I can see the lights in the next few miles.
I am so glad to be able to see all around me again. I know that may seem strange , but I like seeing if traffic is moving and that people are out and about. Starting this week off at 39 degrees this morning...brr. :):)
Ted and I had Karen and her daughter Savannah over on Saturday. We had a wonderful lunch and talked about Savannah's great trip to NYC. She was actually excited to talk about it. Showed us her pictures and a video of one of the choir members singing with a performer from Wicked. What a treat. Loved every minute of it. It was such fun, I forgot to take pictures.
Daughter Kathy had a nice weekend away. She went to the West Baden Hotel in French Lick, Indiana. Home of basketball's great Larry Bird, of I.U., Boston Celtics, and owner of the Pacers fame. Kathy is always into an adventure. She really should be a travel agent. :):)
West Baden Hotel was actually Mile Lick Hotel when first built. It was built to capitalize on the mineral springs in the area. Renamed West Baden years later , after Baden Baden in Europe. You can see more and learn more at : frenchlick.com/hotels/westbaden
Hope all of you enjoyed your weekend. It was cold here with some wonderful sunshine on and off. Wishing you a brand new week . XO
I too like when they finally cut the corn fields down and you can see for miles. Glad you had that time with Savannah to talk about her trip to NYC. Have a great week ahead.

Kris
Kris, I love to be able to see the next road over and now I can use my binoculars to see the train . Oh Kris, Savannah is a shy girl...Ted said she talked more about her trip than all the 15 years she has been on earth. LOL. Today is a cold windy day. Tomorrow is to be a bit more sunshine. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI love an open view, too. It must be fun to watch the corn come down in the fall! Your girls' day sounds fun!
ReplyDeleteLinda, I do love to watch the harvesting. It certainly is a bust time for all the farmers and the grain elevators. Blessings, stay warm. xoxo, Susie
DeleteYour temps are about like ours today. Like you, I love to be able to see out and about! Glad the corn is down now. I know it was fun to hear Savannah share about her trip and to join in her excitement. No appts. for us this week - Yay! Hope you enjoy the rest of the day. xo
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the corn. They planted soybeans this year so we didn't have that problem. Yes, always a lot of debris after they cut down the corn. Very windy here today. We had almost 3 inches of rain last night. Have a happy week.
DeleteSounds like your girls time together was so much fun. I've never been to NY. Two of my three daughter's has and matter of fact one of my daughters along with another girlfriend are taking their two daughters to NY in Dec. I bet it will be some kind of cold there. So glad you stopped by to visit me. Always good to meet a new blogging sister. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteCindy, Oh your daughters and grands will love NYC at Christmas. Savannah did see the skaters at Rockefeller Center. If you ever get a chance, please go. My husband and I used to belong to a wonderful travel club thru our bank. They no longer have that service. Sure miss it. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteHow wonderful that she got to go to NYC...she'll remember that trip all of her life. Love your corn fields! Enjoy your afternoon! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteDiane, I a sure Savannah will remember her trip. She was so excited talking about it. I was happy for her. I love watching the corn grow...but once it's tall out front, then I am ready for harvest. LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteHave always wanted to go to West Baden, have been to French Lick though. I bet your glad the corn is down, beans next years so you will be able to see better!
ReplyDeleteAnn, I had forgotten you have family in Columbus. I went thru the Hotel once and to the casino there while on a day bus trip. I loved that hotel....so glamourous.
DeleteYes, next year beans..:):) We always go to the soybean corner to get off our road to go to town...cause you can see around the corners. So next year we will drive west. LOL. Safer that way. Blessings to you Ann...hope your hubby is liking his new job and that you are feeling great. xoxo, Susie
I would want the corn chopped down, too! I like to see!
ReplyDeleteSavannah’s trip sounded great!
Savannah enjoyed her and I am sure she will always remember it.:):) Oh yes, I am happy the crops are harvested....it's fun to see things again. It's been an odd year weather wise here. So cold the past fews but come this weekend up to 70 and stormy. What to wear?? :) Blessings to you and yours, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI always loved when my dad planted corn. He would rotate the crops. Corn years were my favorite.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed new week,
Carla
Carla, They rotate corn and soybeans here. So next year it will be beans....I love to see the beans blowing in the wind...looks like green waves on an ocean. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteThere has been lots of harvesting going on around here, too. It feels so much more like fall now. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteJenn, I felt like a lot of harvested was done to hurry and get the crops in before fall rains. I think our neighbor has a couple fields left to do. We are to have the coldest Halloween in 25 years, then by weekend it will be stormy and 70 degrees. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteThanks for visiting Pandora's Box. NYC has to be one of the most exciting places to be! Hustling and bustling everywhere and yes, St Pat's looks so beautiful since its restoration - the bricks are so white - just stunning!
ReplyDeletePatti, I have been to NYC twice and I still long to return. There's never enough time to see everything. St.Patrick's is one of the prettiest places. My granddaughter loved it too. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI bet Savannah was so excited to tell you about her trip! I'm so happy it's starting to feel like Fall even though we're expecting a warm front later in the week lol! Happy Tuesday!
ReplyDeletePilar, Our granddaughter, Savannah is usually so bashful, that we were amazed at how much she wanted to tell us of her NYC trip. I am glad she has a spark to want to see more one day. She loved the Broadway shows. ..Hoping that keeps her interested in staying with choir all thru high school. She is an artsy girl, not athletic. We are to warm with storms later this week. Blessings to you, enjoy your fall. xoxo, Susie
DeleteYou are fortunate to have a beautiful view of the field of corn, a happy farmer I'm sure after the day was done.
ReplyDeleteSavannah's trip sounds wonderful, glad she had a great time.
Happy Halloween dear friend !
Hugs,
~Jo
Oh Jo, I know when the farmers get their crops harvested they have to be thrilled. :) I love that I can see the next mile over now. Yes, our Savannah loved the wonder of the big city. Her choir saw two shows and toured NYC. They sure saw a lot in a short time. After what has happened today in NYC ...I am happy she home safe with her parents. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteOh, I love those corn stalks, but I can see how you would feel closed in and want them cleared. You can see for miles and miles now, Susie. Wow, those farmers work so hard clearing them out. Oh my, 39 degrees this morning, that's cold. We are having colder mornings now also. It sounds like Savannah had a wonderful trip to New York City. I've always wanted to visit New York. It's the one place my traveling daughters have not been yet.
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween to my special blogging sister!
love, ~Sheri
Sheri, When the crops are harvested here, you can see for miles. I can see the train running down the tracks two miles away. I love seeing it you know. LOL. Today I got out and swept the driveway after the lawn man fertilized.
DeleteSheri, I am happy Savannah is home safe here in Indiana... after the terror attack in lower Manhattan. So scary.
Blessings to you honey. xoxo, love, Susie
That is so interesting about the corn fields blocking your view. I know what you mean about enjoying seeing people are out and about. I think the corn fields are pretty. Although I do get it about the stuff in your yard. So happy your Savannah shared her exciting trip with you. I know it made your heart happy. I like the picture of the tree in the dark. Kind of mysterious. And then showing us the daytime view.
ReplyDeleteNonnie, it's a whole mile in front of us that is corn fields one year and soybeans the next. Next year soybeans, yes. I like to watch the soybeans wave in the breezes. I can see for miles now. I am happy Savannah was not in NYC while that terrorist was doing his cowardly act. I would not have wanted her to be fearful. Praying for NYC. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteCorn and beans are being harvested around here, too, and the grain trucks are busy going up and down the highway.
ReplyDeleteYour granddaughter had a memorable trip and I know you were happy she came by and shared it with you.
Have a wonderful week!
Hi Cheryl, Those big farm trucks and wagon take over about a two miles stretch of a highway thru our town. So you have to be careful. The Cargill's in on the highway.
DeleteSavannah had a wonderful time for a young 15 year old girl in the big city. I love that she saw the two Broadway shows. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
Hi Susie. I can imagine the beauty of the cornfields, especially this time of year, but I know what you mean about seeing everything moving. I enjoy that too..Hope you had a Happy Halloween..Judy
ReplyDeleteJudy, Everything looks kind of shabby now in the cornfields. But harvesting is a pretty sight to me. I love seeing all the way to the next mile road now. :):) When I lived in town, there was a raod between our house and the railroad tracks. ...in very heavy bad snows, the train always came thru...making me know there's life out there !! I loved that train. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteOh Susie, I'm so sorry to read about your tooth. Darn...and I know what you mean about them not wanting to pull teeth anymore. Love your view now that the corn is out! And I do know what you mean about feeling boxed in sometimes. The weather here has turned cold too. The winds are relentless.. uggg. I need to put a post up...maybe tomorrow.. I was sick last night, so didn't do much of anything today. Ate chicken noodle soup (Progressive..no MSG in it!!) Do you ever feel like you have so much to do, you don't know where to start?? That's me...so I just settle in and watch a Hallmark movie...lol
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Gert
Gert, As much as I love my dentist, I may have to find another...at least one who can do it all in their offices. My dentist isn't even in our dental insurances area...but I trusted him.
DeleteHope you are feeling better. Oh yes, there's time when you just don't feel a hundred percent...so it's better to just rest watching movies. :):) Blessings and hugs to you, xoxo, Susie
