Cold Days, Scary Days, & We Go On...

Sorry it's taken me awhile to post. Ted is in a good mood here. He has had some really highs and lows. Last Monday , I took him for his follow up. They let us go to the Riverview hospital where he was when all this cancer battle started.  I drop him at the door, parked  and run in to  lead him down the hall. He is just barely walking. Then had to sit on a bench.
Once we get in the N.P. hematologist office, they get his blood pressure . It was 86 over 60...they hook him up to an IV drip.  We are there 3 hours, so they go ahead and do his Monday blood work.  He was on many "water" pills, so he was dehydrated.  They make an appointment with his heart dr. Then the dr. and nurses  think he should be seeing an oncology heart dr.  Ted has had his heart dr. since he had a stent 18 years ago.
We go to the oncology cardiologist the next day. That young dr. takes him off some of the Water pills.  Cuts one in half and says do one on M-W-F.  The dr. told Ted he was doing very well , so we gave a sigh of relief there.
Since I do not have enough hours in my day..I could not stay on top of the driveways. I cleared a patch on the porch and in the front drive, to load Ted up for blood work at Tipton. So I just drove over the snow and got him into town. Our I.U. hospital seems complicated. Instead of just going to the lab with his standing order, he has to sign in with the same questions and info up front at registry, every time, three days a week. .( stone age)
This was yesterday's sunset. Cold but full of promise for the next few days. We are to have warmer weather and some of this snow will be gone. Hooray. There's 3 foot drift around the front and I have walked all over because the drift is right on the walkway...where else would it be. LOL
Have to show all of you this. This it the water tower at Chrysler in Kokomo. This tower has been there since 1955. The filling valve froze, so it continued to fill and over flowed.  So scary and cold looking.
You can see the water flowing over it, this is earlier in the day, as it first happened.  I remember our dad taking us at Christmas to see this tower, as it would have all blue lights hanging on it in the shape of a Christmas tree.
Praying all of you made it thru the coldest weather ever. We wore two sets of clothes every time we had to be out , or on the roads. About 46 days till spring...oh boy !!!
My dear blog family and friends, Thank you for you wonderful well wishes and prayers. I am humbly asking you to keep them coming our way and I am sending prayers up for all of you.  XO

  3. I've been thinking of you in this cold and hoping you and Ted didn't have to venture in it too far or for two long. I can see why you were concerned but it sounds as though the report was a good one. I suppose the good and bad day mix is only to be expected but those bad days can scare you a little. Hang in.

    1. Thank you Jeanie. I have felt like, how much more? at many times during this battle Ted is fighting. So any good words means so much to us. I actually taken time to pray and thank God for clear enough roads to make some of our appointments. The snow is melting today and not as windy or cold. It was the wind that was so scary during the cold snap...fear of losing power. Hope you and your loved ones stayed safe during that artic blast. I am saying "enough of winter, come on spring !" :) Blessings to you stay warm, xoxo, Susie

  4. Hi Susie,
So glad that you are able to get Ted around for all the appointments. That is exhausting for him and for you I am sure. Hopefully all of this will be over soon with the harsh treatment regium and then you guys can work on him getting stronger and getting back into life more. I know this is hard on you too. It is hard to see someone you love have to go through what Ted is going through. So I is important to make sure you take good care of yourself too. I know easier said than done. I continue the prayers for you. Such a hard time of year to have to be going out in the cold. I am happy we are through the polar blast and now will see some warming up. That was crazy insane. -55 wind chill -26 degrees for two days and now four days later they are saying 55 by Monday. How crazy to go from one extreme to another. That is Midwest winters for you. Take care sweet friend. We are all pulling for Ted and wishing this ordeal will be closer to a good place soon. Love you.

    1. Thank you so much Kris. Knowing others are praying for us helps. The more prayers the better. Ted is trying to do bits of exercises. He has his appetite back. That will help him with his energy level. Hope you get relief from your fibro. I know that is tough. Oh my gosh I am glad of this warm up. This is the craziest weather ever. I am longing for spring and flowers. LOL. Blessings to you sweet friend, love you, xoxo, Susie

  10. Yes, Susie, I have been saying a prayer for Ted and you every day. I'm glad that he is doing well. Oh, how I love these pictures of the snow, and especially the sun shining through. Oh wow, the water tower has froze. So many states have freezing weather right now, and even the schools are closed in some areas. It's been raining a lot here, which we need.

Thank you for letting us know about Ted. I am wishing you beautiful February days, my dear friend.

  15. I understand about the paperwork. Every time Joe goes to the VA Hospital to see one of his doctors he has to fill out the papers again. Even if it was the day before he was there. *sigh* Bureaucracy. Hoping and praying that Ted continues to improve. You got a lot of snow. We got just an inch and that was fine with me. I'm so looking forward to Spring and warmer weather and I know you are too.

    1. Hi Kathy, Oh my yes, Joe would have a ton of paperwork at the V.A. It's crazy when they want everyone to go paperless and yet send us a letter with a top sheet of approval for treatment then three extra sheets with only one line on two and the same old multi language paper. Gaaa. Just makes me nuts. I am glad your snow was light. I am ever so thankful ours is melting. Stay safe and warm. Bless you and Joe, xoxo, Susie

  16. Oh Susie, you've been through so much. You and Ted will be in my prayers. I hope the severe weather is over and that going to the doctor doesn't have to continue being such an ordeal of paperwork. I know at Mayo I'm told I can do all my paperwork online, so I fill out all the forms online and basically they're ignored and I still have to do hard copies. God bless you and I'm hoping for spring weather.

  17. Wow, praying for you as you make this trek back and forth so often to the hospital, especially in such bad snowy weather, roads, etc. Praying for your safety. Praying also someone will come and help you with your driveway, walkway, etc. That is so dangerous as it thaws and refreezes. Praying for your hubby's healing and his strength. Glad the new Dr. is on top of meds, etc., and that that will help him feel better day by day. Keep up your own strength by taking time out for yourself as you are able. God bless you all.

    1. Thank you so much, Pamela, it's has been very hard at times. Thankfully since the decrease in the water meds Ted seems stronger. I get him walking around the house and using that stretchy band for resistance in exercising. He has seemed more himself these past 4 days. God sent some nicer weather and the snows about melted completely. That is helping plenty. As you know, most everyone works days and that is hard to find help. I do not mind shoveling when I don't have to do everything else. LOL. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

  22. Susie, my heart goes out to all of you...it's been almost 2 yrs since Bill passed and it seems like 30 minutes ago. So so hard...when he came home and went on Hospice, we had his bed set up in the living room. He liked that. Also I have recliner and 3 sofas in there so we could lie down to rest. Someone was with him every minute. It only lasted 5 months from the time we found out he had brain cancer till he went home to Jesus. That was bittersweet as I was happy he isn't sick any more...but I sure miss him. He was a happy man, lived a full life (he was 83).
Prayers got us thru this...just like it is helping you and your family.
    Much love to you....

I keep praying he will not have to have the third round of chemo. He is slowly regaining his strength. But it comes and goes. Most times he is happy, just to not be in the hospital. Thank you my sweet friend for your prayers, I am so grateful for each one. Bless you, xoxo, love, Susie

  23. Susie, I hurt so much for you and Ted but feel such great faith that God hears and answers prayers. Ted's name is still on my kitchen cupboard where I see it every day and stop to pray for him. And for you, dear friend, that God will continue to give you the strength and stamina to do all that you must do now. I hope that you won't be needing to shovel snow much longer. Thinking of you, sweet lady,

It will turn off cold again , where I can get the wheelbarrow full of wood up to the house. It's hard to push a barrow full of wood thru mud...LOL..I tried.
Blessings to you and yours, stay healthy...spring is coming. xoxo, love, Susie
