School Party.....

It's eight in the morning and I am driving down the road to get to school.  It was promising to see the sun trying to shine.
But once I go to the school...no sunshine at all.  It was so very gray and cold.
This picture is out of order..this is the game the teacher plays with the children after their holiday breakfast.  She wrapped 26 books up for 25 kids. By their number (which they have all year) they choose a package, unwrap it. Then the next number can take that book already unwrapped or choose a different package..It's all books on the scholastic list... lots of what  is called stealing in this game.  It ends up okay ..each child is encouraged to read their book and possibly return it to school to trade with a classmate.
This is their breakfast. It's casseroles (egg, sausage) donuts, juice, milk, most anything served at breakfast.  Some kids eat plenty while others will pick over things. eating fruit is often encouraged.
The little class tree and some gifts for the staff. Some are for the teacher. Candles are often a gift that the teacher has to take home...as they are not allowed to burn in school. The whole class will line up and recite the poem, Twas The Night Before Christmas.  All the parents will clap and the children love it.
Some apples for the teacher. LOL.   I get introduced as Nana. I love hearing  the class call me Nana, all at once. :):)  When there's a few moments before the class is moved on to their computer classes...they can do a bit of talent show. It is amazing how much children absolutely love to sing.  When one young boy was singing Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer...after the boy sang, with your nose so bright, the class chimed in, "like alight bulb." Oh I just loved that. Everyone was having fun and truly enjoying their talent show.:)

  1. Awww, Susie, that is so sweet. I think you are such a sweet Nana. Christmas parties at school sure have changed since I was in school. We had decorated cookies that our mothers baked.
    I love hearing children song.

    1. Nonnie, I remember our Christmas parties at school. I loved sugar cookies...the best. Nonnie, I just have to tell you this..one little boy had an aide...meaning he has health or social issues..I wasn't sure which. He seemed fine other than being grumpy. But he said he wanted to sing a song..so he started to sing "Up on the Housetop." He stopped and said I feel nervous with everyone watching, so the children kind of looked down or away and that little fellow sang his heart out..I wanted to cry so much. So there's a good little boy inside him and wants to show up. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

    1. Hi Dottie, Yes, I don't care if all the children call me Nana...some of them need a Nana . In my family as soon as someone says Nana, the kids all know it's me..not memaw or grandma this or that. Easier . Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  3. Sounds like a very friendly school! None of these things are allowed anymore where my grands go to school...no gifts, no tree, no carols secular or sacred, definitely no donuts. Sigh. I am very happy to see that it is going on there.

    1. Vee, There was nothing secular in the décor or songs...so sad. I feel we need God's love in school where the children are. Yes, I am surprised at the sweets for breakfast...when the breakfast was to do away with cookies, cake and sweets for a party. But at least it was some meats, eggs, and fruits there also. Blessings to you and yours, I hope you have a great weekend, xoxo,Susie

  8. School parties are always the best Susie. Love the book stealing game! My dil wrapped up 12 Christmas books for her two boys. They get to open one a day and read it together as a family. I thought that was a wonderful idea as well. The boys are 3 and 5. Starting them young will help stir a love for reading! Have a fabulous holiday! Love that sunshine. I just gotta have it!! lol!

    1. Sheri, the book game has aname but I do not remember . I know the book can only be stolen twice...but at the end, kids can trade if they like. I did like that my daughter told them to read the books and bring them back to swap.
Sheri, you have grown special to me too. You are a kind person and love your family...I really like that about you. Merry Christmas to you sweetheart, love you, Susie

  11. Susie, I've enjoyed reading about your time with the kids, and your replies to the comments where I learned more. I do love anything that encourages children to love reading. Being with children makes this Christmas season so special, doesn't it? I sure wish my granddaughters lived closer but am thankful being able to FT with them.

  12. Arlene watches some young children for the school system for a few hours a week and she always says the kids are fun and much nicer to deal with than adults.

    1. Thank you Boston Boy. I had fun with those kids..They are every height and size. Some look ready for high school and some look like 2nd graders. You can almost tell which ones need extra care. When you think back on it, Paul you probably had the best childhood. Both parents that loved each other, with family values...lots of kids do not have that. I always feel the learning and social skills start at home. Those kids probably love Arlene as family. Blessings to you , xoxo,Susie
