Well it was cold for some days. Some fierce winds with low temps...you know making it even colder. So it was time for corn muffins and bean stew. That's 3 or 4 different kinds of beans with diced onions ,potatoes., and ham. Makes a nice dinner.
Days where the sun did shine with blue skies. I always love seeing the sun especially on cold days. It gives me hope of spring coming soon. LOL Oh, I know, I am just too eager.
This is an early morning sunrise.. I love seeing farm storage buildings with the sun behind them. I truly love being up and about in the early hours of the day.
But then , look at this sunset....so pretty and golden. :):) Who would not love this? It has been a wonderful holiday season. Well once my back started feeling better. I am thanking my Lord for that. It helps me be able to get thru some other tough things.
Ted has been getting his chemo maintenance this week. Not yesterday the place was closed. So he will go one day next week., to fit five doses into his schedule. Then in two weeks he will have two dr. appointments. The week after chemo is hard for him, he is so drained , it seems.
I am praying that you all had a lovely holiday too. Also that this New Year will be kind to all of us. XO
There is nothing as good as hot soup on a cold winter's day. You need something that warms you through and through and hot soup and stew in perfect. Yours looks so yummy :)
ReplyDeleteWe are going through the chemo thing, too and a new medication that is making Steve dizzy and nauseated. We are waiting right now to hear from the doctor on what to do about it. The pharmacist said out to stop them after starting without talking to your doctor.
Wouldn't be me amazingly wonderful to just be able to go back to our old everyday life again :)
God bless you both, you're both in my prayers.
Connie :)
Connie, I know it hurts you to see your Steve in that condition. It bothers me about Ted's weakness after chemo. Our men were so strong and now they have to let us care for them. Hoping God will let them become healthier soon , that all the meds help them recover. I pray for you both too. I have many left over for us since we had our gathering this past weekend. Saves cooking time. :):) Our kids were so good to us too. You know the food gift cards. Bob Evans and D.Q. LOL. Blessings to you, hold on to your faith. Love you, xoxo, Susie
DeletePraying for you and Ted that 2020 is kind to you both. I made a similar ham and bean soup last week, it was so delicious!
ReplyDeleteDebbie, It makes me smile to know people love soups in cold weather. It's so good to smell it cooking and comforting to eat. I hope you are doing well and all your loved ones. I want to come by your blog, and see your pretty garden shed and gardens this spring. Blessings to all, xoxo, Susie
Deletep.s. thanks for the prayers honey.
Prayers continue and yes to a brighter new year for all of us! xoxox
ReplyDeleteThank you Terri. I do hope we all can have more good health and joy. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteYOUR SOUP LOOKS SO HEARTY AND DELICIOUS. I AM GLAD YOUR BACK IS FEELING BETTER. I GUESS WINTER IS NOT OVER FOR A WHILE!! BUT I LOVE A SUNNY DAY, TOO!. PRAYING FOR TED AS HE GOES BACK FOR TREATMENTS.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU KAREN. I KNOW THIS BIGGER TYPE IS GOOD TO SEE. SOME TIMES I WISH I COULD TEXT LIKE THIS TOO. :) OLD MAN WINTER TRULY HASN'T STARTED ON US, I AM AFRAID. BUT I LIKE TO DREAM, I GUESS. I WISH I HAD ONE OF THOSE OLD FLOWER CATALOGS TO LOOK THRU FOR A MONTH OR TWO. LOL. BLESSINGS TO YOU SWEET FRIEND, XOXO, SUSIE
DeleteOh that soups looks so dang good Susie! We had Chili NYE night with the kids and it was good too. I love soups all year round though and most any kind. Glad to hear your back is better. If the back and neck are out of whack then it's BAD! Hope Ted is having some good days. Praying for you both. Happy New Year to you all. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteThank you Cindy. We always are grateful for prayers. I truly believe in their power. Ted does have really good days , then he will have a few of the slow achy days that he can't do anything but sit and watch TV. He will work crosswords too. We never seem to run out of anything to talk about or that will make us have a good laugh. That helps us so much. Blessings to you and yours, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI'm so sorry you've had more back problems. I wish there was a nice neighborhood teenager who would volunteer to help with snow shoveling. I know that neither you or Ted needs to be doing that now. The holidays always throw off chemo treatments for patients, I remember from our son-in-law's treatment.
ReplyDeleteYour bean soup sure sounds good! I try to use legumes all the time. I remember my grandmother talking about soup beans when she cooked dried beans. I wasn't crazy about it when I was a child but I love them now. Susie, I pray with all my heart that 2020 will bring only the best to you and Ted!
Thank you so much Dewena. I am so thankful for everyone's kind prayers for Ted and I. They have helped us get this far on Ted's journey. Also thank you for the good wishes for this coming new year. I have prayed God will give us all some true blessings.
DeleteI ate alot of soup beans growing up. I just can't do those dried beans...so I use those from a can, I also added some sliced carrots for color. LOL The corn muffins make it more of a meal to me. Bless you and yours, stay safe. xoxo, Susie
Praying for 2020 .. we have many changes coming ahead for us in 2020. Our youngest graduates from High School. We are starting to plan for our future as empty nest and thinking of selling our house in the next few years.
ReplyDeleteMy best girl friend is fighting cancer. She will have a mastectomy and hysterectomy on Thursday.. then chemo .. then radiation. She is 46 years old and has an aggressive cancer. Our boys grew up together. They are the best of friends, she has two boys and I have two boys.
If you have time, please share with me good things I can do for Lori or send Lori during this time that helped your family. Thank you so much.
Carla
Carla, I am praying for your friend, Lori. That is a crushing ordeal she is facing. So young too. But I tell you prayer is an awesome thing. Put her name out there for the churches prayer lists. The more prayer the better, it's powerful. I will write to you soon. Blessings to you and yours, xoxo, Susie
Deletep.s. where did the years go sweet girl...your baby is taking wing.
Oh I did have a wonderful holiday season and I’m in no hurry to say goodbye to Christmas so am hanging on through Monday, much to my daughter’s chagrin.
ReplyDeleteIt is so good to know that your back is feeling better. Life is better without pain.
That first week after chemo is a challenge. Hope that Ted takes it easy and does only what he feels up to. I know that I don’t feel up to much of anything that week. Now, I have treatments, but no chemo. I still feel tired that first week, but I’ll be back up to snuff soon.
Sounds as if your holiday was just wonderful. Family is a great blessing and helps so much with love and support.
Many blessings in 2020 to you and all your family!
Hi Vee. Thank you for the good wishes. I pray for you to be on top of the world soon too. Yes, Ted is tired and winded easily after the chemo, then his strength will return slowly. He just watches TV, does puzzles. We talk about when we worked at the same job sites, then we laugh about the craziness of some things. It does us both good to laugh, even if it's silly.
DeleteToday we joined my daughter, her son , his wife and baby for lunch. It was another great day...then Ted had to get to his chemo. He has one tomorrow and then on Monday . Blessings to you, stay strong, keep your faith. Oh yes, here's hoping 2020 is good for all of us. xoxo, Susie
The soup sounds good and sure is welcome on a cold day.
ReplyDeleteThe winter sun is always welcome. Makes the coldest days beautiful.
May 2020 bring you joy, contentment and good health.
Thank you Happy. I wish you a great new year also. Keep walking all you want. I envy your good feet. Sunshine is so sweet on cold days. Blessings to you and yours, xoxo, Susie
DeleteWell the muffins and stew look delicious. Our prayers for YOU and Ted for strength and a touch from HE who is on high.
ReplyDeleteLove and strength for the coming year is wished and prayed for you both
Sherry & jack
Thank you Sherry and Jack. I also wish you a great new year. Oh yes, prayers are so good and welcomed. Thank you. You know there are days that can drag us down and then we get on that lifts us up. Today was a great day. Had lunch with oldest daughter, her son, his wife and baby. Does our hearts good. Blessings, stay safe, xoxo, Susie
DeleteThank you dear Laurie. I pray for you and yours also. I always feel so good when I can pray for others and now that some are also praying for us. Thank you for putting our names on the church prayer list. The more the better. Great power in prayer. :) Blessings for a wonderful new year. Love you, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteI only wish I could box up some of this warm Florida weather I am experiencing right now and send it to you. Soup is good and your's looks delicious, but the radiant rays of sunshine always work better. I'm trying as best as I can to soak up as much as I can while I'm here there's still a lot of cold winter months ahead when I go home again.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy that great sunshine. I keep saying I would love to spend a month of winter in a warm state...but all my children and grands are here but one. I think time walking in sunshine is a true spirit lifter. I never just sit out to sun , you know like we (older, wiser ) folks used to. But maybe 15 minutes is good. LOL Be safe and many blessings to you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteThe bean stew sounds so good! Perfect for when it's cold. You get to see both sunrise and sunset...how nice! I see only a bit of the sunset through the trees.
ReplyDeleteMay God bless you and keep you!
I pray that your new year brings renewed health and strength and abundant joy!
Thank you Doris for your kind wishes and prayers. We are grateful. Hope your new year is a great one also. Blessings to you and all your family, xoxo, Susie
DeleteHappy New Year to you and Ted and your loved ones, Susie. Hope 2020 will be a wonderful year of good health, happiness, and prosperity.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much. We appreciate those kind wishes. I am praying for all of us to enjoy a wonderful new year. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteSome cold days seem to hit harder than others
ReplyDeleteHi Adam, I like seeing the sunshine...too many old gray days in a row and I start to feel sad. Hope you are having good weather there. Blessings for a fabulous new year for you and yours, xoxo, Susie
Delete...corn muffins and stew are right up my alley! In winter here, any day with sun and a blue sky is a gift. It's great when nature puts on a light shown at evening. My best wishes to Ted!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Tom. Today was another really cold day Tomorrow should be nicer. Thinking of spring, just to get thru winter. LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteThose scenes are gorgeous, especially that sunset! Hope you and Ted have a wonderful 2020. Sending HUGS and PRAYERS your way!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Theresa. Your prayers are so welcome here. We appreciate each one. I am praying all of us and our loved have much gentler 2020, than this last year's been. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteNow I am Hungry, Bean Soup and Corn Bread, *(Johnny Cake) !!! Here is to a Glorious 2020 and beyond ! Prayers Lifted !
ReplyDeleteThank you Woody. Oh my gosh, mommy called my cornbread "Johnny cakes" just because I would put some sugar in the mix. LOL Take it easy, we will be out of this winter soon. You will be better, as I am praying for you. Ted is doing good after this week's chemo. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteThere is nothing like a comforting pot of soup and bread when it's cold outside! Yours looked so yummy. I love watching the changing skies as well, so much color to see and enjoy! Praying that the treatments go well for your hubby, I know they take a toll on you as well. Many blessings to both of you in 2020!
ReplyDeleteThank you Marilyn, your prayers are appreciated. I enjoy the wonders that God gives us in our skies. Blessings to you and yours, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI dearly love any kind of beans and cornbread. Bean stew sounds good! Oh, I feel the same as you about seeing the sunshine on a cold day...gives me hope of spring too. And, getting up early! I love the quiet early mornings to enjoy my coffee. My heart sure goes out to Ted...and you too.
ReplyDeleteThank you dear Henny. The quiet of morning is one of life's sweet times. Here's hoping you get sunny days too. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteThat bean recipe sounds so good for a cold winter dinner. I love to see the sun too when it is out makes the cold feel less cold and me more motivated. Hoping the maintenance chemo goes ok for Ted. He continues to be in my prayers.
ReplyDeletexoxo
Kris
Kris, oh honey we have had some gray days here and now I need some sunshine. LOL There's been so much fog the past 3 days. Can you even believe the 40's during Jan. Oh happy day. Thank you for the prayers. Ted is doing well, one more chemo dose on Monday . I keep trying to get him excited about the fishing trip coming in Spring...he missed it last year. Blessings to all of you, stay warm . xoxo, Susie
DeleteYour dinner looks so good. I have a bag of beans and need to cook them. I tried sweet potato fries in the air fryer and a bit disappointing. Need to tweak my method. Prayers for Ted's treatment and for both of you for good health in 2020.
ReplyDeleteI love sweet potatoes. In usually bake one and split it between Ted and I with a some pork chops. I absolutely love one pot meals, that's why I like soups and stews. I'd like to try one of those fryers...might look for them at yard sales, you know how people scramble to buy the newest gadget and then it's in their sales by spring.LOL. Blessings and thank you for your prayers. xoxo, love, Susie
DeleteOH my goodness GRACIOUS! I would LOVE to take those beans!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is Ramblingon. You see my cat's blog address there.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love NanaDiana's blog?
ReplyDeleteYes, I love Diana's blog and you would love her too. I met her here in my hometown once. She and John came to the hospital when Ted had his first chemo, at the St. Vincents in Indy. Diana has a good heart and a huge sense of humor. So fun. Blessings to you. xoxo, Susie
DeleteGreat pictures, Susie! I hope your holidays were fun. it's pretty cold here right now, too. xo
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie. We did not get to be with family on Christmas day but that Saturday all that were not sick got together. It was the best time. My grandson from Seattle and his wife came too. I rarely get to see them but maybe once a year. Hope it is nice weather there now...cause it's be good here. Possibly 60 degrees this coming Friday. Kind of scary, the change in the weather patterns. Blessings and good wishes for a great 2020. love you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteHappy Sunday,Susie. I know how hard that chemo is on Ted. John and I were talking yesterday about how much it took out of him when he was going through the chemo and radiation at the same time. I hope to never have to go through that again.
ReplyDeleteYour morning shots are beautiful and since I have been to your town I can picture things you are talking about.
Love to you and keeping you both in my prayers. xo Diana
Thank you dear friend for the prayers. I am sending some up for you and yours also. Ted got that 5th chemo dose today. He thinks he is getting a head cold..so dr. said he could have over the counter meds..I gave him the kind that does not raise his BP. Praying for some peace in our lives. Blessings to all of you, xoxo, love you, Susie
DeleteHi Susie ~ Long time no see. Been a crazy year, and it ended with Don having a stroke. He is doing good. I got a new computer that works great, so hope to get back into blogging. One of my favorite meals is bean soup and cornbread. Yours looks delicious.
ReplyDeletePraying for you and Don. Wanda, it has been a rough year for many. Praying God will give us all a good year with some peace. Take care of Don and yourself. love you, Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteHi Susie :) I'm glad your back is feeling better! Oh that soup looks so comforting, it's definitely soup weather here too, the wind bites right through a person! Oh, I'm hopeful too lol...Spring is only five months away ha ha ha...five is better than six right? :) I hope 2020 is an amazing year for you and Ted! Your photos are lovely, I love being up early too! All of my energy is sapped after I eat dinner, I get so much done when I'm up before sunrise!! :)
ReplyDeleteRain, I was just standing out on the porch in the cold air. No wind right now, so it's good. I like to say prayers then. I thank God for my back being so much better. I am feeling stronger. Ted got his 5th dose of chemo today. Next week they will set up the next round. Hope you are enjoying some good days there. Let's think about spring and pretty flowers. Blessings to you honey, xoxo, Susie
DeleteWe had bean soup this week, too...good way to use ham leftovers! Hoping the chemo isn't too hard on Ted! I'm with you...hoping for a good new year for us all!
ReplyDeleteLinda, I had sliced carrots and potatoes up in that soup for color. LOL That's why I call it stew, it's get thick. Praying we all have a better 2020. I think we all need it. Bless you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteYour bean stew looks and sounds delicious, my kind of food :)
ReplyDeleteWishing you a much healthier New Year, you are both troopers who never give in, I so admire you for that stance.
Hugs,
~Jo
Thank you Jo. Some times I just cry like a big baby, then I pray. LOL Ted did get his 5th dose of chemo today. Monday he will see the N.P. to set up his next round ...which should be in Feb. Blessings to you, enjoy the pretty days. xoxo, Susie
DeleteHowdy there Susie, I am so glad your back is getting better....what helped it the most? I love your pretty sun pictures. And your early morning ones! I'm not up that early for sure! But it's so pretty. Hope your new year has arrived nicely and Ted is doing ok with his chemo. How cold is it there anyway? Very chilly here right now
ReplyDeleteHi Debbi. The inflammation meds that my family dr. gave me help the muscles so that when I went back to the chiropractor he could adjust my spine and it stayed in line. But it took almost a month and a half for me to feel good again. I still thank God, I sure never want to be that bad again. Ted had his fifth dose of this round of chemo today. He goes back next Monday to see the N.P. and she will set up his next round, probably the first week of Feb. Debbi, this is the craziest weather. It's been in the 40's but feels cold most day ..but come Friday it is to be 60 degrees...rain is forecast for the whole weekend. This is spring like weather. Kind of scary. I just happy it's not snow and ice. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteYour bean stew and corn muffins looks so good, Susie....Yummy. I love soups and stews during these cold Winter months. I'm glad your back is feeling better now. This is a beautiful sunset, indeed. I hope Ted is doing Ok, and I hope the new year is being kind to you so far, Susie.
ReplyDeletelove you, dear friend.
~Sheri
How's everyone doing there Susie? Was glad you stopped in and commented. Yep...can you believe me at my age playing with toys??! ha ha ha ha LOL
ReplyDeleteDinner Last Night, Bean Soup and Corn Bread, - 4 below zero and storm rolling in from the west !
ReplyDeleteHi Susie ~ Thanks for taking time to visit me. We love beans. In fact one of my favorites is Taco Soup...using all kinds of beans. Unfortunately, it's way to salty for my dearest. We are, and will be forever on "low sodium" Well, I do sneak salt...cause I don't have the CHF. Don't think I could handle you weather....I think 64 is freezing. I'm such a sissy.
ReplyDeleteSusie, your pics of sun rise and sun set are just beautiful. I'm not sure which one would be the best. The soup looks so good and I've got to do cornbread soon. I always forget about it..I'm so glad that your holiday was wonderful and that Ted is doing well. That must really be hard for him after putting those horrible, but much needed chemicals into his body. He is a champion and you are too..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteHello Friend,
ReplyDeleteWanting to stop in and see how you are. Sending hugs and love.
Carla
Loving the pics...yep here in Nashville TN we went from 70 one day to 45 the next. Two days of really cold and starting to warm up some. I am over this going back and forth. I wished Mother Nature would make up her mind on what she needs to do.
ReplyDeleteHi there Susie, glad you stopped in! How cold is it there? Hopefully spring is coming soon. Hope Ted is feeling better? PS--I love bean soup with cornbread.
ReplyDeleteHi Susie. I haven't heard from you in a while, so I just wanted to say hello and I hope you and Ted are doing well.
ReplyDelete...you certainly started and ended the day with beauty!
ReplyDeleteI had to delete the above post from commenting on my post !
