Busy Day.....

Woke up to this on Wednesday. Got busy sweeping the porch and shoveling the drive.  We had about 4 inches of snow. Thankfully nothing like the northeast has and is getting. I am praying for all of you. Have seen some scary news reports this morning.

Ted called from the hospital and they were ready to release him to come home. Gee, doesn't that stand to reason...snowy out, no plows had gone down our road, school was cancelled, so send Ted home.  Since school was cancelled I called my daughter and she said she would pick ted up and bring him home. I said he will need some clothes as he said his were not to be found. Angie gets in her son's closet and picks some clothes for Ted to wear home , so she doesn't have to make two trip out to the country.

Ted is released with a small oxygen tank , nebulizer, and breathing exercise things. I have never been around anyone on oxygen and had no idea how things work.  The drs. had ordered meds to put in the nebulizer, a steroid to start tomorrow, and another antibiotic for a week.  I called CVS to see if those orders were called in, yes they were ,but the nebulizer meds was not coded for medicare to pay for it.  The pharmacist, worked with me so that I paid for a week worth till possibly getting the drs to do their jobs of coding.  So called Angie again and she picked up the meds for us.

I got to thinking if they have not coded the meds right....is the company that was to bring Ted's oxygen equipment , really bringing that??? So I actually was on the phone for 4 hours to get that working right. Why do I have to do this when it is up to the professionals . I will tell you it makes me crazy. I call the third floor nurses station to see if they had it coded right....the nurse says if Ted runs out of oxygen bring him to ER....Really?? Sorry to be complaining but I just need to vent somewhat.

I did get in touch with the oxygen supply company and they found the order on the back side of the nebulizer order....which he said should not have been there. He told me to hang on and he found that the delivery driver was in the town north of here. So by 8:00 P.M. the young man had Ted all hooked up to the oxygen concentrator. He brought some tanks also, in case of power outage. He showed me how to use those. Hooray !!

When all the craziness of the covid , Ted's pneumonia, and now winter is over....this is what I want to do, as soon as we have some peace. :)  Take care everyone . Be safe. XO

  2. My mercy Susie. It is crazy at what all we have to do to take care of medical things isn't it? Now, everything is online and if you don't have this or that....then you are up the creek without a paddle. Thank the Lord for our children. LOL! I have spent two days just trying to do paper work for cataract surgery that has made my nerves bad! Praying for you and Ted and I know that snow can sure cause problems it sure is pretty in that picture. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  3. Vent all you want about coding issues and anything else. I once arrived for a heart test and was told I owed $1800 that day. I said, "Goodbye." It was a coding issue from my own doctor's office. I imagine it happens often.

So glad that Ted is home, but what a lousy day to send him home. So good that your daughter was able to help out...twice. 💕

Take care, sip tea, nibble a cookie, and enjoy being back together again.

Storm not too bad here...three or four inches...cold and windy!

    1. Hi Vee, Stay warm. I am not a big fan of winter and the older I get the less I like it. It's work , especially out here in the country. Wow, that bill they gave you...no wonder you said Goodbye. It just seems that I have always had to chase meds down or scripts...People need top double check their work. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

You are not crazy, this sounds nuts: "...that the delivery driver was in the town north of here." WHAT. Glad it all worked out!

    1. The delivery driver was taking supplies to someone north of here and really wasn't that far from us ...so he got here in time after the boss called him. I am so happy he was so near too. Because Ted was about out of that small tank of oxygen. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  5. Susie, My heart goes out to you. Being the caregiver to someone you love so deeply is so hard and so wearing. I went through the oxygen thing too . . . and so afraid that I would do something wrong. You just want to do your very best and we were not trained as nurses. It is very stressful and like you said, the professionals should be taking care of their responsibilities, it's not your job to double check that they are doing their jobs. You have enough on your plate and your heart is connected to every minute and every thing you do.
You are in my prayers, sweet friend.
    God bless you.

    1. Thank you dear friend for all your prayers. I knew you would understand some of these med issues. I had called the hospital so much that the young man on the answering end and I are friends now. LOL I did get in touch with the hospital and they were to check the codding for the script today...but guess what..they have yet to return my call. I am not a phone person and to be on the phone so long gets to me. Stay safe and warm there Connie. Blessings, xoxo, love Susie

  7. Good GRIEF, and telling you to return to the E.R. if he runs out of meds!! And in the time of Covid when the hospitals are pushed to the max. Seems like they are either incompetent or not trained well.

One day while Ted was in the hospital, my sister Jeanie, who has been in bad health with her heart, called me and we both just cried over the phone for a minute or two. That helped a wee bit. I know that Ted is a fighter and I pray lots..that should get us thru. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  12. oh wow susie, i hate to read stories like these. i worked as a nurse for many years and it is sad to read that a patient is sent home to his unprepared, uninformed family!!

good news that he is home, i'm glad your daughter was able to help!!

i did not get any snow and that's all i am going to say, i don't want to talk about it!!

    1. Debbie, My daughter and a granddaughter are nurses. Liz has cried for her patients before. I know the nurses carry the biggest load . I think it's untrained office staff at times. Or just over loaded work schedules. But it's hard on my nerves to have to do the phone calls...you know it takes a lot of key punching to get a human on the line. It's good to have Ted home. I am praying he will get over this pneumonia and maybe start getting some strength back. Blessings to you and yours, xoxo,, Susie

  15. You deserve some peace big time and a medal for good and vigilant action. I'm thrilled Ted is home but sometimes I wonder what are they thinking? I hate it when a script isn't called in or there is a problem -- you're right. The professionals should have this down like a routine and families really don't. Well, you deserve a good vent, and now you deserve a little bit of slow-down. It sounds like everything is finally together. Just stay well and Ted, too. Time to be merry. Even if it's a quiet "merry."

    1. Jeanie, When a person can relax and keep hope...there doesn't have to be a huge celebration on holidays. As a matter of fact at this crazy covid time..I would just as soon it be only Ted and I. It will be. My daughters may have their children in their home but not mixing families. I hope they use the good sense I tried to pound into them. LOL I hope you and Rick can have some peaceful Joy too. I have one of the nurses trying to get the code to CVS...still waiting. The hospital better not send one of those "how was it " papers. LOL Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Laura, Insurance can make one nuts..I never realized I would need a degree in medical business, or even a nursing degree to do this caregiving. My daughter is back to teaching her 5th grade. Today is their class party. No parents were allowed to attend. But Angie called me and the class said "Merry Christmas Nana". Sure lifted my spirits. I have always been able to help with parties , but not since Ted's battle started. I miss it. Hope you are well. Blessings, be safe. xoxo, Susie

You have your hands full for right now, I have a Nebulizer and use Albuturol, with my COPD it helps when I need it, Medicare covered the cost and eventually paid for the Nebulizer so I own it now, The Oxygen you should be able to get Ted on a Portable Oxygen Unit that he can carry. We were Blesssed as the Snow was all south of us, they got 3 to 4 feet of Snow, We got about a 1/2 inch of Snow ! 27. So sorry Ted was so sick and you had a circus to deal with. My grandpa was on oxygen at home for several years. Tanks at first and then the machine, but grandma always kept a big tank on the front porch in case the power went out. Did they show you to beat his back with a cupped hand? It knocks that junk lose so he can cough it up.
