It's Friday & Still Cold...

  The wind blew hard all night, and drifted the snow we had. This fenced area is our wood pile. There will be shoveling to get in there. LOL

  It's has been so crazy cold I wanted to see flowers.  Here's some pansies from two years ago. So sweet and colorful.

 This is from one of the displays at Horton's two Springs ago. Pretty !!  My daughter , Kathy, emailed me and said she had ordered me some seed catalogs from the Burpee Company. Oh I can't wait till they get here.
   I am amazed at the colder temperatures that some of you in the south are getting. We expect it  here, I wonder if  the southerners are prepared. I saw on the news where Jacksonville , Florida was having ice and snow. Yikes. My brother lives in Alabama. He still has the snow shovel he had when he lived here in Indiana. So I know he keeps that around. 
   I hope all of you are warm and safe. Hey, 2 weeks of January is about up. XO

Here's What Happened......

  Maybe you saw my post yesterday. We had a big snow. This is the drive after shoveling. There's a bunch of doves huddled together on the clear part of the pavement. They get heat from sitting like that. The sun was out all day long. Loved it. But it was so cold and today is worse. Way below zero wind chill factors.

 Here's the sunset....beautiful !!!  I put on my coat and got out for this shot. I just love all the colors.

You can see a couple feeders in this photo. The birds were busy on them yesterday. I did see a cardinal and some blue jays. Honestly all I had been seeing for weeks now have been the sparrows.
  Yesterday , a little after 4:00 , I saw what I call a 9-1-1 call , go down our road.  A sheriff's car, an ambulance, and a fire truck. It was a fire... I saw many volunteer fire fighters and a police car from town, 6 tankers of water.  They were there over 2 hours.  My husband drove by there this morning and called me to say it was the out building , where tractors, lawnmowers and such were kept. Thankful it wasn't one of our neighbor's homes. There's a grouping of  7 homes there.
  Today is dangerously cold out. Stay in if you can.  Just be safe. XO

Snow & Robins....

 We got about 7 inches of snow. It is so light and fluffy.  We will be digging out today. But the winds tonight will just blow this all right back. There was a 2 hour delay in school starts, this morning.

  This shot is for Sheri at Red Rose Alley.  It is very pretty when the snow is on the trees.  I'll be bundled up soon , out there cleaning and shoveling. LOL

 Here's my sweet robins on the mantle. I got these at a craft place at Amish Acres, in northern Indiana. Robins are my favorite bird of this area, because they are a sign of spring. I love their way of hopping on the ground.

 I love their sweet song too.  I am so glad we went to town yesterday and bought 80 pounds of bird feed. Ted filled all the feeders. The birds will be busy at the feeders today, as they will not be able to find anything on the grounds. If you do not have feeders, break up some bread or crackers for the birds.  Some times, I cut up apples and oranges and put under the trees where they feed.

Bird Weather.....

 It is cold today. All this came in yesterday. The worst is yet to come. Six inches of snow for this evening.  This was as it started yesterday.

 

  There was a line of sparrows on the railing. I don't know if you can see them.  This is a new bird habit here I guess. I leave the mums and black eyed susans standing through winter for the birds. Now the birds are making a habit of sitting on the railing and leaving little droppings. Dirty birds. LOL

They are sitting on the garden flag stand. They fight all the time, but take time to huddle together. Like some humans . :):) I keep there feeders under the pines, you would think that would be a good hiding place for them. Maybe when I cut the dried plants down later this winter,  they will stay in  the pines.

It's Coming.....

     This is how it looked yesterday. Wet and foggy. I am not a huge fan of fog...well actually when I drive in dense fog I feel sick to my tummy. Nerves I know, I have been this way since I first got my licenses. I have driven in blinding snows. rains, ice, but it's the fog that gets to me. Today we are to get some snow, and I think it will be here for the rest of winter. LOL

 Yesterday just started off raining. You can see that the grass is still very green around here. I can get the blues if I have too many gray days in a row.  So I will be going out and about today just to get in some walking. I think I may be shoveling snow this week. That will be my exercise.  I do it in little shifts. Even young people should not shovel too long or too much at a time. This old girl knows better.
  I have been missing some of our blog buddies. I don't know if many have just taken breaks , or possibly not feeling well , like one of our favorite blog ladies, Nana Diana. Hope she is on the road to feeling better. Winter can be a tough time ...just because of the weather. Health is a big issue now., so many of our friend have had the flu. some have developed pneumonia also. Hospital visits are limited here. I avoid the drs. office like , well we know where the germs are.   Got to wash those hands and cover those coughs. Take care of yourselves please.   LOL yes, I am blog mommy.  XO

Young Love....

     Very late showing these  photos...should just wait till Valentine's Day.  This is Teddy Bear, granddaughter Lynzie and I at her wedding in June of this past year. I had to take pictures of pictures...ever do that? :):) She could have been married in flannel with that beautiful smile.

  This is the September wedding of my grandson Korey. His beautiful bride is Ashley. She designed this dress and made it herself.  She truly looked like a princess when she walked up to the alter. I watched Korey's face and it lit up, which made my heart happy. I knew he loved her so much .  I pray for my grandchildren's young love to last.

 Speaking of young love, once Teddy and I were young ,  my oh my. . I can't believe I looked at him twice since his hair was longer than mine and he had a beard. LOL. I have always said , never hide a handsome face with a beard. He is the sweetest person truly. We both have changed our hair styles.LOL.   If I were to give young people advise...it would be to pick up after yourself and be trust worthy.... That makes it work for us.
   Raining today, so thankful the ice did not stay. It was slick in the grocery parking lot early this morning. I had to drop Ted off to pick up his truck , as he had new tires put on yesterday.  While in town, I just went for milk and a couple things. I know where all the men go on Saturday morning now...they go by the store to get sodas , donuts and few odds and ends. LOL. There were about 8 men in line and each one had maybe two items.  Hope all of you are having a great Saturday . XO

This Week....

   We had some thick frost this week and it was cold enough. The sun did shine most days, making the cold more bearable. But Emma and I did not go for any walks.

  Here's Emma Pooh, after she took her braid out. I braided her hair while it was wet, so it became curly while in the braid.

  This girl has thick hair like her mother. By the time I would comb the tangles from Liz's hair I would almost be ready to cut it . Well combing the tangles from Emma's hair took me a good half hour. She's  been using a brush to do her hair. Well the bristles are not long enough to go through her hair, thus she is just smoothing the outside. LOL.

This is Liz and Emma, when they were ready to leave for home yesterday. Liz's hair is growing out nicely from her chemo and is still thick. Love my girls.
  Emma and I did not do the crafts I wanted to do while she was here. I just wasn't feeling very well. Not sure if it was just a lack of sleep, but I was very tired.  Of course when she is here, it's a lot of work keeping up with her. I think she's better about saying" thank you'. She's better about putting her dishes in the sink. But she is a wallower and has blankets  and stuffed animals all over. It's always sad when she leaves . We enjoy her company.
   Today, I take the tree down and finish putting away Christmas decorations. I am so ready for that now. Lots of things to do around here today.
  We are ready for a quieter weekend, after the hubbub of the holidays. Wishing all of you a great weekend. XO
