Our Gifts.....

My daughter Karen, the real gardener of the family, found a Monarch  caterpillar , in her garden..
A cocoon too...so she left them . Knowing we need to save the Monarch.
I found a beautiful butterfly feeding in one of my flowerbeds.
These are the blackeyed Susans  that I brought here from when we lived in town. They struggle  but survive. I need to transplant them .
Here are the marigolds I planted from seeds.
I also planted some of those seeds  near a container of yellow marigolds.
Looking back at the house this morning at 6 :30 , after deciding to get pictures early .
It was cool and calm outside, so I walked to the road  to look toward the east.  I have enjoyed the few days of cooler mornings here.  I think each day is a gift. Having freedom, a home and being able to get out and about.

Oh I thought you would like a couple more pictures of  one of my most loved gifts. Great grandson Luke, eating a lunch of spaghetti.
The next evening having it warmed up , must have been a total bore, for it was lights out at the dinner table. :):) Bless his sweet heart.
Hope all of you are loving your weekend. Please be safe. XO

    1. Thank you Karen. I hope your day is a wonderful one also. I know that everyone in our state has enjoyed the cool morning. We are to possibly get rain this evening and on and off till Tuesday. We sure could still use some on our lawn. I am always amazed that weeds will grow in the awful heat but not our grasses. LOL Mabe grass is the real weed and weeds should be lawns. :):) Just an out there thought. Blessings to you sweet friend, xoxo, Susie

  2. We had a huge butterfly hanging from the eves of the house yesterday....we wondered if it was a monarch....love all the 'critters' God gives to us to enjoy. Cool morning here as well, and I love it! Happy Sunday.

    1. Laurie, I was surprised my daughter got such good photos with her phone. But I am glad she did not disturb the caterpillar or cocoon. Oh Luke falling asleep just melted my heart. He must have played or walked longer than usual. Hope you are getting some sweet mornings there. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  6. Those are all great pictures, Susie. I don't remember ever seeing a picture of your home before. I always thought it was a two story for some strange reason.

Those pictures of Luke are absolutely frame-worthy. He is SOOOO cute and looks like such a happy little guy.

I hope you have a wonderful day, Susie. xo Diana

    1. Diana, You probably thought I lived in a two story because I mention the stairs a lot...it's the basement stairs, my laundry is down there. Bummer. Our house is an old ranch house where the original farmers lived out here. Seems everything was an after thought...like the little bathroom. The tiniest I have ever had. The people east and west of us are related the them.
Our Luke is precious in my heart. Diana he is growing way to fast for me. Hope you are enjoying some great days there. Blessings to all. Love you, xoxo, Susie

  7. Hi Susie! How adorable. Sometimes I'm tired just before dinner and I think, "I think I could go to bed and not care one bit about missing dinner." Babies just decide to sleep at the table! Ha ha! Your marigolds are lovely and that butterfly - WOW!

    1. Some times I think , "wouldn't a nap be wonderful?" But I never nap unless I am sick with the flu. I could almost cry seeing Luke falling asleep while eating. Squeezes my heart. I thought marigolds were good to deter bugs...but I saw a Japanese beetle on them yesterday. :) Blessings to you and yours, xoxo, Susie

  8. Your pictures are so pretty! I planted some dill this year and I’ve had a few butterflies. We have planting fields around us and I have blamed the crop duster pilot for us losing so many of our bees and butterflies.

    1. The crop duster come thru here too. I have noticed throughout the years that the milk weed that use to be in the ditches is no longer there. I rarely see it any more...the Monarch loves to lay their eggs on the milkweed. So sad. I never kill bees, I really care about the pollinators. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

    1. Thank you Kay. I knew that butterfly was a swallowtail...but not the full name. :) I sometimes chase them thru the yard for a photo. LOL I felt sad that Luke was so tired he fell asleep eating, Poor baby. He is such a good little fellow, till he's tired. That's the only time he is grumpy. Blessings to you and yours, hope you are not having too hot a summer. xoxo, Susie

    1. Saimi, It kind of breaks your heart when the children are that tire. Some times so much is going on that we forget if their nap was short or even not at all. :( I love my grandkids and their babies so much. My youngest granddaughter is 14, the boys belong to her older sister. There's ten years between them. So the great are another chance to love on babies here. Blessings to you and yours, xoxo, Susie

    1. Lisa, I have a picture of Luke's mommy with a big spaghetti face when she was little. :) I love those too. I have seen many butterflies on the flowers here, but not the very big ones. Once we got our granddaughter Emma a bug collecting kit. It had a little set of grabbers for catching things..the first thing she caught was a tiny purple butterfly that was sucking on her toes. We still laugh about that. Blessings to you , xoxo, Susie

  17. Little Luke is a cutie! I grow marigolds every year too--seems they are so hardy to ANYTHING---wind, heavy downpours, brutal sun, high heat, they just keep on growing! LOL Wow that catapillar is gorgeous even BEFORE IT BECOMES A BUTTERFLY! Pretty colors. Hope your weekend was nice!

    1. Debbi, You are right about the marigolds. They very hardy. I wish they came in more colors. I wanted them to help keep the bugs away. We had a busy weekend. Got things done with it being somewhat cooler. Blessings to you, hope you can walk this week. xoxo, Susie

  18. Hi Susie, Patti Beck always saves those monarch caterpillars because the birds love to snack on them. She’s the potter and gardener that I keep trying to get you to her open house! I haven’t grown marigolds in years. Next year it’s a must. I remember everyone grew them when I was a kid. Have a great day.

    1. One of these days Cindy. Text me next time you go to Patty's ..I will try to meet you there. Hope you are feeling great and enjoying summer. I know we all have struggled in this heat. Well me and old people. LOL. I was kind of surprised at how tall the marigolds were from the seeds. They look nice, so they would be something easy for you to plant , your big area, you may want lots of seed packs. This was one pack. I am saving the dead heads for seeds. :) Blessings to you sweetie, miss you. xoxo, Susie

    1. Thank you Kris. I hope you have a great week too. We got lots of rain here today. More tomorrow. Our lawn still has huge brown places. I can't risk watering the lawn with a well. I am thinking of getting some rain barrels hooked up to the downspouts. That might help. :)
Our Luke is as sweet as he looks. I sure miss hugging on the little ones when I can't be with them. You know from your own grands how quickly kids grow. :) Blessings, oxxo, Susie

  23. "Lights out at the dinner table" -- what a cute way to phrase it! Loved your pictures. More power to the Black-eyed Susans! I had a hard time with them and finally gave up in our last house in Colorado. Not sure they grow here in Florida. Nice post!

It rained most all day yesterday. Ted missed golfing this morning because it rained. We needed it so much though. I miss walking too. Out here, I normally do not walk the road...can be dangerous, so I walk the driveways and walks. July is leaving us today. It went quickly and scorched everything. Blessings,Love you, xoxo, Susie
