This is so rare...going down a four lane highway with sparse traffic. Oh boy did I ever love this. I felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. The temperatures in the hi 90's with heat index warnings . We took a cooler with waters, tea and ice with us.
Headed to a campground that I had never heard about in my life time. Ted's brother had invited us to visit. Ted tells me...we are going to a barbeque at his brother camper. Then when we get there.....
We end up on a boat on the Wabash river . Ted, his brother Mic and Mic's wife Micki (yes, they are Mic and Micki..I know cute. ) fished while I watched as I have no fishing license. For two hours in that heat !!! . I try to never be a wet blanket, honestly, but I had a headache by the time I said I'm done please. .
Mic said , we will go in and have something to eat. I apologized for not being able to last longer in that heat.
It was very pretty on the river in this cool shady spot. There's been flooding there and many logs just floating down the river. I can't recall ever fishing in a boat on a river. I like fishing lakes, or the gulf. Next time, I will have a license and know what is really going on...as I feel Ted may have actually tricked me,...because fishing on a river in this heat was never mentioned. I would not have gone along, had I known.
It was fun none the less. This is from the porch of Mic's camper. We ended up not having a cookout, but going out to eat.
Ate a late lunch in a bar...oh help me. I do not like to be around smoke, and thankfully this bar/café was smoke free. Hooray !!! Ted ordered this big tenderloin and an extra bun with sweet potato fries. It was eatable but nothing to write home about. LOL. We had to ask for water and it never came. Very poor service. I drank all my water and ate the ice that I had. It was a long hot day. Thankful for the fun of being with family and seeing things I had never seen before. Learned an easier way to the campground too. Slept like a log on Saturday evening. :)
Hope all of you enjoyed your weekend. XO
I would have to say that you have written more enthusiastic posts about other excursions. You were an awfully good sport for going along with that. It's a shame that the meal wasn't a good end to a tiresome day. -Jenn
ReplyDeleteJenn, I felt like it was not the right weekend to even try to be outside. I gave it my all. I did enjoy seeing the reflections of the skies in the water. Talking with everyone was enjoyable too. I do like to know the full plans of trips and Ted held out on me. Which irritated me. I try to never sweat the small stuff. But the heat was almost more than this old girl could bear. LOL. I am longing for a cool down. :) Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteOh, dear! So not your cup of tea! That naughty naughty Teddy Bear of yours!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about how pretty it was and am not the least bit surprised you made the best of the situation!
Mic and Micki - that’s cute. I had a cousin named Paula and she married Paul. A friend named Annie married a man named Billy Pilley.
Sounds like Mic and Micki live a somewhat different lifestyle than you and Ted.
It’s another triple digit day here and with the humidity high we will be hostages in our own home until the sun goes down! The quads are coming at noon on Thursday and will spend the night and stay until late Friday night! It will be like old times. The new bunk beds are going to be a big surprise!
Love you, Susie Q! Tell Teddy he owes you one!
Linda, I can get out more when it's winter than when it's this darn hot. The quads are going to love the new sleeping set up. Linda when I get my fishing license I will gladly go fishing with all of them , but not in this terrible heat. I felt like a limp noodle when we got home. LOL. I love all the names. Teddy took me for an ice cream today...making amends. LOL. Love that boy. Blessings to all of you for a wonderful 4th of fun and good times. Blessings to you my sweet friend, xoxo, love, Susie
DeleteLooks like a lovely place..too bad it was so hot..no wonder you slept well..
ReplyDeleteMissy, One thing about playing with the children and being in heat , or hiking...it wears me out. LOL. Hope you are doing okay and staying cool. I know you will take very good care of your pets, hope others do too .Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteI do miss freshwater fishing. I haven't done it since the early '80s. You could always tell when you hooked a carp as opposed to a rainbow. The carp was almost dead weight on the line.
ReplyDeleteI have no big plans for today of the 4th. I'm going to try to catch up on some sleep. It's been an interesting few days back. Maybe I'll write about it.
Boston Boy, I hope you do write about people you have met. How you and Arlene did while away. I hope she had her strength back. I am going to get a license and go back fishing , but not in this dreadful heat. My brain is still frazzled from the heat. That carp had Mic pole bent way over and his 8 pound test line did not hold. . Blessings, stay cool , xoxo, Susie
DeleteOh girl, I am with ya about the heat! It will give me a headache quick! I have to be near water and under a tent in order to stay at any length of time! The heat about kills me. The older I get the worse it seems to be. Hoping you have a wonderful 4th Susie. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteThank you Cindy, wishing you and your family a safe and fun 4th. Yes, I love being with family and watching them catch fish...but after two hours, my brain was fried from the heat. LOL. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteLooks like a fun relaxing time, Susie!
ReplyDeleteLinda, It was relaxing and I enjoyed being outside...but the heat finally got to me. I was ready for home once we went to eat. LOL. Hope you had a fun weekend. Bless you, xoxo, Susie
Deleteyep, looks like you were tricked. However, I know it was fun in a way being spontaneous. If it weren’t for the heat and uexpected boat ride, Im sure you would have been more prepared. you were A good sport.
ReplyDeleteLisa
Thanks Lisa. I do try to go along with the unexpected...but the heat really was the worse part. Two hours on a small boat fishing seat, the glare of the sun on the water and the heat..just did me in. LOL. I am not a fan of being on high waters of a river, after hearing of all the drownings in our state since the heavy rains. we all had a life jacket, I can swim, but I just really did not want to swim for my life. LOL. Mic ran the boat very well and calmly even though other sped by us making wakes. Next time , if it's not hot will be better. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteHi Susie! I melt in the heat, too. The great night of sleep made it all worth it, right? You had better get that fishing license. You might catch the biggest fish!
ReplyDeleteI am getting that license and I think I would like to try fishing the river again but ta a cooler time. LOL. I felt totally wilted that day. Blessings to you and yours for a fun holiday and be safe please. xoxo, Susie
DeleteSounds like fun was had by all but I'm like you and don't care for unexpected trips. Happy 4th my sweet friend. xo
ReplyDeleteThank you Susie. I am almost too old for spontaneity. I loved seeing the pretty sights and the blue skies reflecting on the water. But there was little breeze and too much humidity. Shh, plus when it's hot...I am not so into fried foods. LOL. Tomorrow will be our family gathering and picnic celebration. Hoping it all goes well. Blessings, love you, xoxo, Susie
Deletep.s. stay cool and hydrated. Waiting for cooler temps.
Even the best intended times turn out not so good. If I didn't fish I would go crazy sitting on a boat. I just remarked to hubby that its been a long time since we've fished. Time gets away here. We catch and release as well.
ReplyDeleteWe cooled off today but I think the heat and humidity is coming back later in the week. Stay cool and hydrated. :)
Jane
Blondie, That is the way to get thru, Staying hydrated and cool. I love to fish, but did not want to fish without a license, no fish in a river is worth that kind of ticket. LOL. I always thought it would be fun to live where you could fish right off the pier. :) With your back , you do not want to go fast in a boat. I always say hitting waves compacts my spine. LOL.And I was young then. :) Blessings for a fun 4th, be safe honey. xoxo, Susie
DeleteYou were a great sport to hang in there in the heat. I too would have not wanted to sit in a boat and watch them fish in the heat. Glad you still have a good time. We were roasting too here. Today it cooled down a little bit which felt pretty good. Happy 4th.
ReplyDeletexoxo
Kris, Our weather been crazy since the beginning of the year. Spring was hotter than usual and not blistering summer heat. I want to open windows and turn off the AC. Tomorrow is our family gathering at Angie's. Hope we all make it. My brother and his wife are coming from Alabama.Next weekend ( 13-14 ) is Horton's French Market. :) Blessings, xoxo, Susie
Deletegoodness gracious if I'd been out on that river all that time in that heat and sun and humidity I would BE SO DEHYDRATED and I'd be drinking glass after glass of water too....and eating ice. Cant belieive your waitress forgot your WATER!!! I would've been hollering, LOL!! Pretty river pictures though even if it was a hot and miserable temperature. I also love your pretty pictures on the previous post....the sunrise pictures. So so pretty! Love how your sweet "tater" vine is up and coming all through the steps and all, so neat!
ReplyDeleteDebbi, I wanted to drink more water while on the boat...but feared I need to use the restroom...then I kind of felt stuck. So I kept quiet for two hours . But when we asked for water at the café twice...that was too much. I think in this weather they could leave a pitcher of water at your table. I am losing my gardening touch. I think I drowned one plant. Or maybe not enough water. It's hard to tell at times. That vine is still growing. Wish all the plants would do that well. Blessings to you Debbi. Enjoy this 4th. xoxo, Susie
DeleteSusie, happy 4th! Thanks for thinking of me and missing me! Now stay cool, so hot here in St Louis, yuck!
ReplyDeleteHello Ann...so good to hear from you. I am worn out from this heat. Hope you are staying cool. Blessings to you honey, xoxo, Susie
DeleteWhat a sport you were! Not my cup of tea either....honey, in our Texas summers, no one goes out of doors with good sense..rather quiet around here!
ReplyDeleteBetsy, I saw on Linda's blog that it was over 100 there. That is toooo hot for anyone. I am ready for some quiet time now that graduations, a wedding, and this holiday is over. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteIt looks like a wonderful time. Loads of fun and with family too. That's what it should all be all about.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love our family times. To tall about the old days and our parents long past. Talk of our future plans too. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
DeleteSusie, you are a good sport. My grandson loves to go fishing and they always just release the fish back into the water. I like to relax but only for so long and then need to go do something and in a boat, out on a lake, you are held captive. A little would go a long way with me too..Happy 4th..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteJudy, I guess that was part of the exhausting part...you can not stand up and walk around on a fishing boat. Hope you had a fun 4th. Blessings, xoxox, Susie
DeleteAs I read your post, I thougt of my aunt. She loved to go fishing. It was one of her favorite things to do. I hope you had a nice time Susie, and stay cool!
ReplyDeleteThank you sweet Pilar. I like that your aunt loved to fish. I think it's fun when you are planning it. Of course I laughed at everyone fishing...because Micki was out fishing the fellows. :) You a sense of humor helps so much. I can laugh at myself. Wish I had known that growing up...LOL. Blessings ,Stay cool, xoxo, Susie
