Work, A Surprise, & Shopping....

Grandson Jake bought a house last year. An old remodeled house.  Who ever did the porch post, made a mess.  Jake said the big tiles feel off the bottoms in the heat of this summer. LOL
I know he had this house inspected before buying it. There are inspectors out there that haven't a clue. Sorry, it's true.  The inside had the best materials and some fine work , but the outside seemed an after thought.
Ted and I went over on Friday . Tore the bottom surrounds off the posts.

We fashioned our own idea of how the bottom parts should look.  Oh my gosh this was a major job for us oldsters.  So much walking , standing, measuring, cutting. What ever happened to square and plumb ?  We always use screws to put things together. They grab better, they can be backed out easily if need be.   We were at Jake's at 9 , on Friday morning.  Left for lunch at 11, and back again at 12. ...worked till 5.  I forgot to get pictures once we were done. So we went back Saturday evening for this last picture. I see the fellows (Jake and his pals) have been sitting out on the porch having beers and not painted the posts. Hmm? Gonna have a talk with that boy.
Saturday my daughter Karen and granddaughter Savannah came to Tipton . They went to the library for a book signing. This book was written by a young lady that used to be my neighbor girl. The photo of the girl on the book was a girl from our town that was murdered in 1965. The murder was never solved.
The surprise, Karen bought a book for me too and had it signed by the author. When the book signing was over, Savannah and Karen came out for a very late lunch.  We had a good visit.  Then Savannah drives them home.  That is why Savannah is with Karen so much, getting her hours in for her licenses. Gee, it's hard for me to believe my granddaughter is driving.
That was two days of our weekend. On Sunday, we just stayed in and relaxed.
Then came Monday morning. Ted and I went to Kohl's with our 30 % off coupon. That's the time to shop .  I found these taupe colored  shoes by Sketchers. You know they have that memory foam insole.  So comfortable.  They were 59.99 marked down to 54.99 and with 30 percent off well I gladly paid 38.48 for them. :):)
Then we used some of our gift cards from the children and had lunch at Steak and Shake.  So it was a good start to the week.  Ted got some golf in this Tuesday morning even though it rained last night and the ground is wet. LOL  Shot an eighty -four. , not bad for wet ground .
Wishing all of you a good day today.  XO

  1. What a project of a porch! I'm sure your help was very much appreciated and I can't wait to see it all painted and looking new again. What a crazy thing to grow up with knowing a girl from your hometown was murdered and have it still be a cold case, I bet you all were on edge during that time. I might have to look into reading the book. Glad you found some comfortable shoes for a comfortable price!! Love sales and coupons!! What a yummy looking restaurant burgers gotta be good if they are famous for them haha! I suppose if you are a golfer, any day is a good day for golfing!

    1. Saimi, I love using 30 % off at Kohl's. That's when I like to get sneakers too.
Yes for years that murder was talked about. It's still sad that someone got away all these years.
Steakburgers are very good at the Steak-N-Shake. They make me think of Red Robin, with all the different varieties. Oh Ted loves to golf and usually does much better. My daughter golfed today also. She's on a ladies league. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  2. You and your Ted can do just about anything! Louis Dean likes to use what I call screw nails.
I may have to take a trip to Kohl’s for some new Skechers. That’s about all I wear anymore.
I’m off to do a little Goodwill Hunting this morning with a friend I used to go to church with. Ruth Ann is back at her farm.
Rest up, Susie Q! You sure worked hard on that porch! Your grandson is blessed to have y’all!

    1. Linda, I wear Skechers almost all the time too. They are pretty comfortable. They come in many colors and styles.
I wanted to go to Goodwill, but I have enough stuff for now, I guess. LOL Jake was thrilled with how much better the post looked, without that bulky bottom and the tile pieces. His mom said he bought the paint already. He asked her about painting it and she said , "how did nana tell you to paint it?" So she told do what I said. LOL I'll probably end up painting it too. :) Hope you are doing well and that it's cooler there. We got rain , and needed it. Blessings, xoxo, love you, Susie

  3. Isn't that what is great about families? Everybody pitching in to help each other? And I'm sure your husband's expertise means that the new work on the columns will be better than it was when new even. I think you're terrific for helping too!

    I love your new shoes!

    1. Dewena, I have always told my children...family will be there when no one else is around. So be kind to one another. Jake liked what his Papaw and I did to the posts. Ted and I actually laughed about what we found under those tiles. It's better now. Jake's mom met us for lunch today and said she liked what we did and that Jake bought the paint. :) Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Diane, I have been trying to find a pair of comfortable white sneakers. They make them in the wildest colors but rarely in just white. I will be still looking. LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  5. How great that Ted was able to help get the new posts going. They look great and I am sure with some paint will be beautiful. I think I might have to get a copy of that book. I am into unsolved murders and listen to pod casts all the time and 48 hours etc. about unsolved cases. Have a great week.
    Hugs,

    1. BJ, They do make some comfy shoes. I was hoping to get all white and the thicker soles...but they only came in wide widths. Bummer. Bras, shoes, and purses, my hardest things to find that suit me. lol Blessings, xoxo, Susie

I have thought of your wonderful candles. I felt like light one mine ,here last evening, it was gray and rainy. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  8. You sound like you know what needs to be done in the remodeling department. What a sad thing. It always makes me sad when I read stories such as the one of the young lady and her murder never being solved. The current news about the missing girl in Iowa right now is very disturbing. I got a pair of Skechers last summer and I have just about worn them out. Yours are cute. My, my, I guess in another six years our granddaughter will be driving. Not ready for that, but I did tell her she could drive me around. Haha.

    1. Nonnie, When I look on line I see the cutest shoes...but go to the stores and can't find a comfy pair of all white sneakers. Yes, that mystery is a shame, as some evidences was thrown out long ago. someone needs to invent tracking devices that can be placed in our shoes, hair clamps, whatever.
I too told my granddaughter she could come take me shopping. LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  9. Everything sounds like a lot of fun, except for rebuilding the posts. :) Hubby and I just mentioned today, how it never ends. That's how it is when you own a home. Always something that needs to be fixed or done. :)

    1. Jann, I have told Ted the very same thing. You can never just rest on end when you own something...there's upkeep, or make-overs. Jake needed to look around more before buying that house. But young people don't always like waiting. Now he wants a property that has a garage, as this one doesn't have enough room for one in the back. So he is fixing everything to sell. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  10. Oh my gosh you sounded like my Mom about the porch not being finished!!! “They have time to drink beer but not paint!” Lol! My niece went golfing on Saturday and got sick twice, from the heat. My sister was going to take her out but she was doing pretty good and didn’t want to quit. She shot a 90. It was a school function w several schools involved. I haven’t been to Kohl’s in awhile but I keep getting the 15%. I need a bigger percentage than that to get me in there!!! Great buy on the shoes!

    1. Cindy, Haha , I know. Young people don't have the same priorities we old people do. Jake wants to sell his house a.s.a.p....so you'd think paint , then have a beer. LOL
Your niece has good dedication...she did well and being sick. Poor kid. I would love to golf, but need much training. Ted and I used to play captain's choice.

I still can not find just white sneakers. LOL. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

    2. Oh my gosh they sure don’t! I just got into an argument (? Is it still an argument when it’s texting?) with my nephew because he “refuses to work for someone else and give his paycheck away.” He doesn’t have a problem letting everyone else in our family work pay taxes and give him money! Well...he didn’t want to hear it.
I have never been a golfer. Apparently I swing and hold the golf club like a baseball bat! Well I grew up playing baseball!
I hardly ever buy white sneakers. I’m too hard on them. I have gray ones that I like pretty well. I need to clean them. And get one more year out of them! They are SAS and even on sale they were too expensive. I like your new shoes. And they look comfy. Most important thing!

    1. Thank you Cindy. Oh It really bothers me to be feeling weak...I used to be so very strong. But I keep trying to do things like physical work, to keep what strength I have. LOL. That is one reason I still shovel the drive in winter. I do it in shifts, go inside and get some water...then back out . I know that is a scary thing for oldsters to do...but it's exercise. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

I have closets full of clothes, really do not need any...really need to lose about 20-30 pounds. :):) Yes, I love my Jakie boy. LOL he would laugh hearing that. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  14. Dear Susie...you are so very lucky to have all this family around you. The book looks like a very interesting read....a real treasure signed by the author. I remember going to Steak and Shake when we lived in Illinois while my husband was in the Air Force...great burgers and shakes. Love hearing about all your activities. Hugs from Texas.

    1. Thank you Betsy. I know my hubby only has a short list of foods he will not eat. So he loves those steakburgers. I always asked they be well done. LOL Betsy, when I was young I dreamed of traveling the world, living some place other that small town Tipton...but I married young, had children ,who live nearby...so I grew where I was planted. :) Can't leave now...would never get those sweet baby hugs. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

  17. Hi Susie, so nice to meet you! Thanks for coming by my blog and leaving such a nice comment. It sounds like you and your hubby have been very busy. Skechers shoes are my favorite! I have to have comfortable shoes now - my feet just plain hurt in shoes that don't have any cushion inside.
