A Week Of Winterizing....

 Ted and I have been cleaning up the yard and garden. This is a visitor in the garden. I like to see praying mantis because they eat nasty things in the garden.....but I am always afraid to get to close, for fear they will jump on me. Yes, I am a scardy cat.:):)

This is the sunset after a day of getting things ready for winter. Changing the filters on the furnace. Stacking wood, planning a new wood bin. We have had a wood bin in the basement, that's a lot of handling of the wood. This year, I want the wood just outside the back door, not in the basement. So we are in the process of making a new bin. Hope everyone can enjoy this wonderful day. xo

Bit Of Decorating....

 Here's my touch of  Halloween. Wooden painted pumpkins, the sprig of bittersweet , and the Hansel and Gretel book. I got this book at abook sale at our library. The bittersweet was what I bought at the Earth Fest. These wooden pumpkins, I think I got them at goodwill.

This is an autumn wreath that Emma and I made , during one of her visits. She made one for her mom too. I have a butterfly cutter . I go through magazines and tear out the colorful pages. The I just use the butterfly cutter to make all colors of butters. They are fun to put in a card to someone also.
  Ted used the chimney sweep broom on the chimney. So I'll get to clean , after much preparation and pulling the Franklin stove insert out of the fireplace. Always a job....but safe from chimney fires. We do burn the creosote logs. They burn with such intense heat that they dry out the creosote that maybe built up in the chimney. We only use seasoned fire wood and never any pine limbs.  We probably would not have to do what we do today, but for a little more work, we like to be safe. Please people if you use your fireplaces, use those creosote burning logs, as recommended.Be safe. xo

Girls Who Wear Glasses....

How about old ladies that wear glasses?? I have many pairs of glasses. Some are prescription and some are just reading glasses.It was time for my yearly eye exam today. My vision hasn't changed since last year.....but the Dr. dilated my eyes. Bummer, I had plans of other things to do today. I just drove straight home from the Dr"s. office. I did order another pair of glasses. They are not the transitional kind, but an actual pair of sunglasses, with my prescription. Oh and the bifocal too. I miss my good vision. I miss my good ankles more. LOL   I have to be able to see, because I love reading all of your blogs.

Chilly Today...

 We have this flowering crabapple tree. I love it. I also like to see the little "apples" on it once the leaves fall off. I wish I had more of these trees. Maybe I'll plant another next Spring.

 The marigolds are showing off their autumn color. They are pretty but do not smell sweet, at all.

 Yesterday, we had more rain. Again this morning a bit of rain. So far 2 inches of rain has fell since Saturday.

This is our sunset   last evening. I love sunsets and sunrises. Now Ted is mowing. He put it off for 4 days .LOL...now the lawn is very much in need of mowing. Hope all of you are safe. I saw the bad weather of tornadoes and snow storms. Severe storm warnings from D.C. to New York today. Be safe. xo

Rainy Sunday.....

This is a photo I took on Friday, while in town. The leaves are starting to change. It is raining again . It rained on and off yesterday, about all day. I can see that our lawn is greening again, oh happy day.  The man that treated the lawn ,this past week,said to water it if we didn't get rain. I am so happy it rained.
 I  did paint "welcome friends " on my two little pumpkins, didn't take a photo, I'll take one later. I did get around to shredding old faded worthless photos. Actually I could have just thrown them in the trash. Do you ever find old pictures you have taken and wonder "why"? I had pictures from the Kruse auto auctions. More car pictures from car shows and antique car meets. Why? Old faded blurry photos of  people you can't even remember. Every time I sort and thin anything , I always feel much better.

Sun Up Till Sundown......

 This is how the day started yesterday, very cloudy. But as I went to town it cleared up and the sun shined all day. I drove around my home town , I long to move back to town .

 I went by the side entrance to our city park. You can't drive in here, there a front entrance for cars. I love seeing this old entrance. I am sure it was the only one for many years.

 My rose finally opened up. It's such a pretty color. This rose was given to my daughter , by her son . When she moved from her old house , she moved to an apartment, but couldn't bear to leave her rose behind. So she brought it to me . It had some scary moments where I thought it would not make it.  But it's a fighter.

This is the end of the sun for yesterday. It was suppose to rain last night. It is raining this fine Saturday morning. A gentle soaking rain. Our lawn needs it. The lawn dude came and aerated this week.
  Hope all of you are enjoying something this weekend. Even if it is so simple as the sun coming up, or a soft rain, or the last rose blooming. I know if you look , you will find something beautiful, to enjoy. xo

Some Outside Decorations...

 I planted some ivy in this container during spring, so I kept it and added a pumpkin and a basket of marigolds.  Stuck the painted twigs back in. I want to do more autumn colors.

Here's one of the scarecrows. I refreshed his cheeks, gave him some dried hydrangea to hold. I need to write on my little pumpkins. Or maybe add a big bow to the potted plant. I am finding it hard to get motivated lately. I hate when my butt starts dragging before I am done with projects. :):) Oh this old bench was made from a cedar fence post. I love how rugged it looks. Hope all of you have a fun weekend planned.
  Can you believe it's snowing in some states....oh I am not ready to even think about that.  xo
