The Catholic Church...

I am not sure how these picture were taken, possibly drone. There's Tipton's Catholic church  in it's glory .
The two story house just to the right, on the corner, is the priest's  house. Big and nice for one man and a housekeeper. LOL
This shows a better view of that house.  My mom's house was four blocks north of this corner. So I have always loved this old church. I have gone there for weddings, baptisms, and Communions. I was baptized into the Christian Church. Another of my favorites.
When I lived in town , I  walked by this church on many of my walks. I would always look up to the crosses. One high upon a steeple and one on the tower with the rosette window.
Many years back, lightening struck the steeple and the steeple  burned. The church replaced it . But who ever was in charge of all that rebuilding ,hiring the builders, no one thought to check the structural  soundness of the entire church.  After all lightening is a tremendous force of power.

Things started happening to the church's structure, tiles and the coating falling .  The church was deemed unsafe. It had to be torn down.  The steeple was removed and saved. The pews, the stain glass, and the statues were saved also. Many more things.
You can see the brick under the layer of "stucco" , not sure what that is called. So all that is left of that beautiful old church is the steeple . There's been fund raisers of all kinds, to rebuild our Catholic church.

Over the weekend there was a festival in the little town south of Tipton. My daughters went for the day. I used to go with them, but honestly my feet can not do that many miles of walk and standing around.  Sad but true.
My daughter Karen bought this for me, in memory of the church. The man called it a pen and pencil holder. It is made from the pipes of the church's pipe organ. So thoughtful of Karen. I am thankful for my beautiful loving daughters.
I hope you are still reading. On Saturday evening , my classmates and I were celebrating our 55th reunion. We are old for sure. After dinner, visiting and picture taking everyone went home. There are couples in our class that married .
One such couple went home and the husband decided to call his son once more before going to bed. He had called him twice during the day and no answer either time. So he just goes over to his son's house . Upon letting himself in, he found his son dead from a self inflected gunshot.  A tragedy that has left us all shocked. I am asking for prayers or good thoughts for this couple, please.
Please talk with your children about suicide. This was suicide prevention month.

  1. First, my condolences and prayers to the couple. That's so tragic about their son. Thank you for shedding light on Suicide Prevention Month Susie. So many people are in pain and feel there is no way out which is just not true. You know that I suffer from depression and anxiety, so mental health issues hit close to home for me. There is help and people don't have to suffer in silence. Lovely pictures of the Church! Have a wonderful weekend!

  2. A lovely church and so interesting about its history. It's sad when churches are abandoned and fall into ruin. Glad the people there care about their church.

So sad and shocking about the young man who took his own life. I'll be praying for his family.

    1. Thank you Kathy for the prayers. The young man had some issues, but he was so loved by his family. He had two failed marriages , but out of that he also had three sons...wish he could have thought of them..I know suicide is hard to even try to understand. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  3. Susie, I hate that people who are that desperate don't seem to show signs sometimes of what is going on. They hide it all inside and then it's too late. I'm so sorry for the family because they will probably have so many regrets and asking the what if or why didn't I questions? Praying they will find peace in all this and wondering if he left any kind of note.
What a sweet and thoughtful gift from your daughter. I really like that. It's hard for me to do too much walking these days like that and certainly, Jay can't handle it.
Very nice pics and commentary on the church and your memories, Susie. God bless you and maybe sometime soon your friends will open up and you will be able to reach out to your friend. Praying for them is what is needed now.

    1. Thank you so much for the prayers. I know people think, if only and what if's...to no avail. I think families need to know there's no shame or blame for them. We all know parents love and always want the best for their children ,no matter the age. This young fellow had a drinking problem and I think that changes our brain's chemistry, maybe to the point of not being able to think clearly. It's still a shocking and sad situation.
I hope I live long enough to see the new church. I am hoping it's made of bricks. Bless you sweet friend, xoxo, Susie

    1. Thank you Linda. My friend had shown me a gold chain with her and her husband's class rings , while at the dinner. She and her husband were enjoying the time with classmates. Then to have this happen ...they are keeping to themselves, which I hope is just for awhile. I have sent cards already, but they asked for privacy.
With the church gone, that whole area looks empty. The school is where they hold church now, as you know Catholic schools seem to be closing. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

  5. Susie, what a nice post today. Whatever faith you are, you wish the best for those beautiful churches and it so sad to lose them. Don't talk about being old, I have rank and privilege there. And I can't imagine what your friends are going through to lose a child that way. It is happening all too often today. That was so sweet of your daughters, I am sure they are wonderful people. Love from Michigan.

My daughter are good and kind, so I am happy for them and their children. I always want them to talk to their children about things that can happen in life. Hope you are doing well and enjoying cooler temps. I am in no hurry for winter. Today it's nice here and no AC is running, what a wonderful break that is. Blessings to you dear friend, xoxo, Susie

  10. Oh Susie, I am so sorry for your friends loss of their son. So, so sad. And I’m sorry for the Catholic Church. So many of them are being torn down or sold. And I love the old Catholic Churches. St Joan in Kokomo was sold years ago and they moved into an insurance building. Not the same. About your feet, have you tried CBD oil? I tried it for awhile and it helped me with some health issues. I decided to go to some specialists and see what is going on w my body butif I don’t get any answers I’m going back on it. It really helped me feel better. You have a sweet family and loving daughters. Enjoy this beautiful weekend!

    1. Thank you Cindy. My heart just breaks for my friends. Suicide is too hard to understand. You can feel all alone while standing in a crowd, so to say no one's there, you know that's not true. So I always say,one should not feel shame or be blamed.
I know I have arthritis in my ankles..saw it on xrays years ago. Of course carrying around an extra 40 pounds just plain hurts. LOL. Do you ever feel that sometimes you just have lost interest in festivals. You know the same old, same old. I think I am there truly. I was on celbrex for a few years, dr. took me off, thank goodness. So I just do a couple Tylenols when I am in pain. Can't take Aleve because of being on an aspirin a day. Don't get old honey, it's no so fun. :):) Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie
p.s. the reunion was why I never made it to Horton's...too many activities,

  11. Oh what an awful tragedy!!--so sorry for your friends and the sad loss of their son. What a terrible terrible time. I did enjoy reading all about the lovely old church though...I love old churches and how awful that this one got struck and then had so much dis-repair and had to be torn down. You know me....I do so love the history and the stories of the old buildings and the old churches!

  12. Oh, dear Susie what a shock for that couple, to lose their son to suicide. Suicide is something that should be talked about, brought out into the open. If we can just prevent the tragedy of someone taking his or her own life, that is something to strive for.
So sad about the church being torn down. I love the photo of the cross high up in the sky like that.

How awful! Suicide is more prevalent in today's society than most of us think... My own Great Nephew took his life several years ago, leaving behind 2 children... Heart breaking. My nice, his Mom, has never been the same since the death of her only child. So sorry for your friend's loss...
The church is gorgeous and what a nice keepsake from the church.

  20. Oh, I am so sorry to read about the man who committed suicide..it's such a tragedy for everyone. Especially for those who are left behind. Life is so precious, we're only here for a short time and no matter what life brings to us, we must embrace it and be thankful for another day. They are all in my prayers.

It's also sad to see the churches when they have to tear them down. They have had to do that here in the city a few times.

Blessings to your daughter, I know those pipes from that church meant a lot to you.
