James O'Donnell....

Sorry this is so blurry. This is a photo of James O'Donnell., he died yesterday at the age of 92. He was our last survivor of the USS Indianapolis.  He was awarded the Purple Heart, The Asiatic Pacific Medal with 5 stars, and the Medal of Peace.  O'Donnell was one of the 317 men to survivor the sinking of the USS Indianapolis , that had 1,200 men on board.O'Donnell joined the city of Indianapolis' fire department in 1946 and retired from there in 1981. He joined the board of directors for the USS Indianapolis Memorial Organization in 1990.He is survived by his wife of 70 years. They had their 70th anniversary on New Year's Eve. What a beautiful soul.  xo

  3. These men were such heroes! Our daughter had the good fortune to interview some of them at one time and fell in love with them.

    We are losing so many of our WW II veterans every day.
