Remembering Toni....

The lady on the left is Toni, on the right is my sister Pam. Toni passed away last week. When people live alone, they need to keep in touch with someone daily.  Toni's best friend remarked to another lady she knew well, that she had not heard from Toni for some time, and she wasn't answering her phone. The other lady lived nearby and said she'd go over and check on Toni. When that happened, the neighbor lady found Toni . She had passed away.  It was a sad situation. My sisters who live alone, call each other every day. Or go by each other's homes. Sorry, the point of this post is to remind us that others need us, some times. If you have loved ones , friends, or neighbors who live alone , please check on them. They may need you. Blessings for the weekend. xo

  1. Oh Susie, so sad about this post. But you are so right. Years ago, my Uncle lived in a hot upstairs apartment. It was July. The family hadn't heard from him so his brother (my other Uncle) went to check on him. Sad situation. This summer I went to check on a friend that lives alone after she wasn't answering her phone...she had gone to the movie and forgot to turn her phone on when she got home!!!

  5. Oh how hard! I can't imagine what it was like for your sister and for you all to lose a friend. The world has become too busy. Sometimes I go for weeks and don't even see my neighbors in the yard. We pass in the road. That's too busy.

  6. Good Message in your post today. We really need to slow down sometimes with our own lives and check on others. This is really sad she died alone and was alone for awhile before someone found her.

  10. What is so sad is that there are so many people living alone and all it takes is a visit or phone call to brighten their day! We all have time for a gesture that small.

  11. That is so true. Sorry Toni passed, but glad someone found her. Not all people have families or have families close that check on them. Our neighbors do a pretty good job of making sure we are all checked on if something out of the ordinary happens or if we don't hear from each other. Even in the winter. Great reminder.

  13. Oh Susie,
God Bless Toni. This reminds me of a conversation that I had with my sister just the other day. I was trying to get a hold of my aunt just to say hello and she didn't answer. Luckily, she lives with her son and has a care person at her house all the time. Old people do need to know that they are loved, and what a great reminder this is for all. My aunt is doing ok, but I call her ocassionally to check up on her, as she is 83.

    Love,
    ~Sheri

  14. Sorry for your loss. When my grandmother died, my Mother made my grandfather check in with her every single for over ten years! When my mom was out of town, he had to call me!

  15. How very, very sad,. Susie, that she died alone. My heart aches for those people that seem to fall between the cracks and live lonely lives. We had a lady here that froze to death because she fell between her car and her house and no one saw her or found her for a day. Her kids had begged her to not go out alone...xo Diana

  16. How sad. I do live alone, but keep up with the folks who work in my building every day and a few friends every day. We need to take care of each other.
