Getting There.....

The tree is up and  decorated.....finally. My word it took me a long time. I will tell you why near the end of this post. I love this skinny fake tree, so easy to assemble. All these ornaments have been with me for a long time. My children made many of them.
I got my red plaids back out again this year., along with these antique balls.
This is Father Christmas. My daughter Kathy made her sisters and I one for a gift one year.  She's a very good seamstress.  I should show you the wedding Gown she made herself, when she got her first sewing machine.
Yesterday I was going to finish the tree and have time to spare....well you all know that old saying ,the best laid plans. So true. My husband had called the repairman to come work on the oven. In the mean time, Ted builds a huge fire in the fireplace, where I am working on the tree. I roasting like chestnut.  The repairman shows up.  I tell him, we have a fire going, please do not let too much LP gas out....he says your home owners is paid, right?   Oh so funny...not at this time.
I start smelling that LP gas, I tell him and Ted to be careful.  I do not like the smell of gases, I feel kind of ansty, so I put on my coat and start walking outside.  I see my daughter Liz pulling into the shop drive. She and I go in the house..Oh boy, I really smell that gas then and I tell the repairman so. I open windows for the gas to dissipate.  Liz ask me to go to lunch with her, I say "let's go". I wanted out of that smell and I was feeling kind of headachy. Probably stress.
When we arrive at the café, Ted calls and says the man is gone and he will have to order a part, so the stove gas supply is turned off till maybe Tuesday. More stress.  Proving it is always something.LOL
After lunch we go back home. So I let Lizzy shop my closet for something to wear to a Christmas party. I let her shop  my cruise wear closet. LOL.    That's where I have my best evening clothes. She left with two new blouses, tags still on , a fur(fake) vest (so in again), and a sweater. She was happy.
I finished the tree, took a bow, and melted into my chair. I am done ,done, done. :):) Hope you have a fun day today. I have an appointment with my investment people.  Blessings.

Kicking myself because I got rid of a fake fur vest at the end of summer. :-(

    1. Gosh Nonnie, by Christmas I would have half of those candy canes gone. LOL. That would be a new way of putting the ornaments away. LOL. You know that saying...everything old is new again. I have seen those vest with plaid shirts and rolled up jeans..so darn cute. Blessings for a great weekend, xoxo,Susie

  3. What a day, Susie! We aren't able to get all the lights to work on this tree, the first year we are using it, bought from a friend last year. I'm going to have to ask her what might be the problem. xo Nellie

    1. I hope you can find the light problem Nellie. I use the strings of lights and I plug them in to test them even before I unroll them. I wrap them every years around a big rolled up newspaper. It keeps them neat. Wishing you a nice weekend...we are now having rain and it's to last all night. xoxo,Susie

    1. Deb, We should start a shop your friends ' closet club. Heaven knows we have way too much and things that are brand new.LOL. Men just worry the dickens out of me with their nonchalant way , when it comes to fire, gas and heavy things.... that's how they get hurt. Gotta love them. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  7. Your tree looks so very pretty Susie, we are akin in our tree preferences, mine is a tall skinny Alpine tree, no need to move all the furniture !
We had a gas heating unit, which had completely burned through it's heat-exchanger and was allowing carbon monoxide to escape into parts of the unit. It scared me so bad, I had the gas-line removed, and now back to electric. Make sure you have one of those detectors in your home...please.

    1. Thank you Jo. Oh yes, we have a carbon dioxide alarm. I have extra smoke alarms too. I think all our home line should be checked every year or so. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

    1. Hey smarty pants :) you do not know how badly I have missed that oven. That is where I do my one pot roasted meals girl. LOL Of course cooking for myself is not top priority. I haven't been able to make your famous baked chicken salad and I want some. :):) No muffins, no cookies, no pork roast. LOL. It is a big bother, cause even though I go through this, I may still have to buy another stove. Love you sweetheart, Mommy

  9. Bless your heart, dear. I'm so scared of gas. Sometimes we smell something around where our furnace and hot water tank is. I get scared. I have had it checked several times and they say it is okay. I'm just so glad that you found out that it was not ok and didn't really get sick. Yes, when it rains it pours. I love your tree.

    1. Bonnie, My Ted makes me crazy with his big fires and fooling with things. He and the repairman did not think gas going through the house was going to blow up....but I was not so sure. LOL. I just need that oven. xoxo,Susie

    1. Laura, Any thing to do with leaking gas can not be safe. I need that stove fixed or thrown out to get a new one. What ever happened to an appliance that would last 30 years or more. This stove is 10 years old. At least I can relax looking at my tree. xoxo,Susie

  12. I never has smelled gas but I lived in an apartment building and there was a fire in the apartment below me. No smoke alarms went off and I was unaware of the fire until someone banged on my door. The corridor was filled with smoke. I had just got up. I quickly dressed, took a deep breathe and found the stairs and made it out safely as did everybody else. It was quite scary. I have gas heat and a gas stove. I am always wary of the smell of gas.
I am going to buy a Christmas tree in a week or so. I think I'll go real tree.
