On Our Walk....

Yesterday, I went to my sisters' apartment and we went for a walk.  We decided to walk down the alley. This is in back of there building.
This is one of my all time favorite houses in our town. It is two doors south of Brenda and Jeanie's apartments.  This is the back & north side view.
This is the back view and south side.  I adore the arched balcony.  This house has many stained glass windows.
This is our doctor's office, once a beautiful home just across from my favorite house. This is the back. It is for sale now.  Dr. Mary has retired from our area.
This big house is apartments . We used to live in the part with the two big windows upstairs, I was in 4th grade then.  It's 3 doors north of where my sisters are living. We had already walked down the alley and back around to the street side. Honestly, you sure see things differently walking  down an alley. I am sure this was once a grand neighborhood. Some of the huge homes are now apartments. But then the house next door to  this place, where we lived as children, is being turned back into a one family home.
Hope everyone is enjoying this glorious weekend.  Hope you are having some family time too. XO

  1. Hi Susie, It is very fun for me to see your area. Reminds me of my hometown. All of my life, we had Dr. Jesse (a lady Dr.) who practiced in what was her dad's home. Sadly, once she died, the grand old Victorian was torn down. Glad you had a nice walk with family. Have a lovely day. xoxo

    1. Mildred, sad that the dr.'s old house was torn down. Our dr. Mary 's dad was our first dr. He passed away and she took over his patients... His house/office was just catty corner from that big red house. I always thought dr. George's house looked like the Beaver Cleaver's house. :):) That walk was fun. Blessings to you Mildred..xoxox Susie

  2. Susie, you're right, everything looks so different when viewed from an alley. That's why I like them so much. It was fun taking a look at the different houses and areas in your town. Sometimes I see a house in my town, and I think to myself, "that house is so charming."

    Happy Memorial day weekend, Susie.

    1. Sheri, I wish I knew more history of the homes in our town. I drive by mommy's old neighborhood and try to think of the families that lived there when we were young. There's only two ladies left in our old neighborhood, that were there when we were kids. I send them cards to let them know I think of them. It's like they are a connection to our parents. Having great weather, hope you are too. Love you, Susie

  4. Susie..I am so glad you are having such a good time with your sisters! How blessed you are to have them in your life! Lunch, walks, shopping, and just sitting on your porch watching the birds! Priceless!! Which soaps do you watch? We have watched The Bold and the Beautiful for years. I kind of hate to see the new, young ones taking over...changing of the guard so to speak. But I know they need to get the younger people into watching them.

    Blessings,
    Gert

    1. Gert, My Teddy bear is working for a gun club...and he works all the weekends, that's when people want to skeet shoot. So I have spare time to do things with my sisters. Three of them are not married. My sister Pam,and I watch the Young & Restless and B& B also. They are our favorites. I hate some of the story lines...why can't people be happy in marriage in a soap opera? LOL. I have cried over Steffie in the B/B show. I hate to lose our older stars .. Like Mrs. Chanceller on Y/R. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

    1. Debbie, My sister Jeanie and I talked about those homes. They had to be one the nicest neighborhood when those homes were new. I would have loved seeing it during horse and buggy days. LOL. So far this holiday weekend has been the best. Glad you are having a good time too. Love you,Susie

  6. This is such a gorgeous area and looks so pretty this time of year. I could imagine living in that last big mansion in an apartment, it looks perfect for the young single girl I once was. Very picturesque!

    1. Blondie, The neighborhood is being fixed back to some of it's prettiness. I like when people take care of their home and lawns. When my family lived in the apartment, it was not so nice but two doors down was the guardian angel that God placed in my life. She was the wife of my mother's divorce lawyer. My parents divorce while we lived there. So it was a sad time and a blessed time in my life. I still love that neighborhood. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

    1. Cindy, I try to think who were the people who lived there first. What was it like to have such a big home. I just love the older styles. Hope your Memorial Day is a pleasant day with family. xoxo,Susie

    1. Kris, I would live in an older home before a new one any day. The new ones are safer because of the materials but the character is missing. Of course that's years of trial and error with landscaping too. xoxox,Susie

  9. Loved seeing the homes you featured! Especially the one YOU lived in as a child. We see things differently when we are children than we do as adults, don't we? I love walks down Memory Lane!!!

    1. This neighbor means lots to me. The apartment we lived in is where my parents divorced and two doors down lived the lady that became my guardian angel...she was the wife of mom's lawyer. I know that God placed her in my life. The apartment was not as nice as it is today. But Mrs. Russell home was like a mansion. Thru the years so many things change. But they are working on fixing up the neighborhood again. Blessings for a great day, xoxo,Susie
