Over At Lizzy's.......

My daughter Lizzy's husband loves to can stuff. These are his green beans he canned last weekend. I took this picture on Monday, when we took  a cross that Ted had made for Liz to hang on her living room wall.  I saw Matt had all the green beans canned and sitting on the family room coffee table. I think he was going to write the dates on them.
He also had a bunch of cucumbers , he is going to make into pickles. He had just picked them from his garden.  He grows lots of things himself. I know that Liz and Emma help him too. But Matt is the one that loves canning.
Here's Emma and her mommy, Lizzy. They are getting ready to go to school for orientation for Emma. She had her orientation on Monday evening and then her first day of school is today. Our Emma is growing up. She and her cousins , Savannah and Skylar are the last of the grandkids still in school. The years flew by....faster each year. Hug your little ones today , all too soon they will be grown.
We bought the stain for the deck floor, but it had rained on the deck, and now it must dry out again. We got a nice rain and even after the past two month of soooo much rain, we needed this one.
Hope all of you are heading into a weekend filled with summer fun.  XO

    1. Missy, I hate crunchy grass too. I hope you get enough rain to soak the lawns..no flooding. I love reading where young people still have gardens and can. Matt likes to hunt and fish also. I am on the fence of the hunting. He says he would love to live off the land. Enjoy your day. xoxo,Susie

  2. Love those green beans. Always curious why folks fill the jars with water when they can green beans. I've canned hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of quarts of green beans and we don't put any water in the jars :0! Blessings my friend!!

    1. Honey, could you do a post on how to can without water...I am curious. I guess people use water, cause that's how they are in a can from the store. LOL. I am glad my SIL does the canning...I do not think my daughter is a good pioneer..she is too much like me. LOL. I hope you took pictures of your work...others need to know it is work too. Blessings for a great weekend, xoxo,Susie

Oh how I don't miss canning, and yet, I miss the satisfaction that came with it. That seems like a lifetime ago. Lizzy is so lucky that her husband loves to do it :)

    1. Hi, I have missed visiting your blog. Yes, our Emma is growing up...some times I think faster than need be...so I told her, I could see she was bustin to grow up and she needed to slow down..it would happen fast enough. I truly want to cry . I told my girls, I knew they had to grow up, but it means they go away too. I think my SIL could live off the land , like he says. LOL. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  15. The weather has been perfect this week. I remember my mother making grape jell from grape vines in the back yard. And the tomato sauce from the fresh tomatoes. Out of this world! There's nothing like eating freshly grown items even when they've been preserved.

    1. Boston Boy, I wish I had a photo of all the wonderful thing my aunt had canned from her garden and the fruit trees. MY mom never made anything like that and neither have I. So I have no clue how to even try. Don't you wish you could have a jar of your mother's jelly now. Bless your heart, xoxo,Susie

  16. The canned goods look very good, Susie. I haven't had canned goodies in such a long time. Liz looks like you I think, and this is a great picture of her and Emma. I can't believe that school is starting already. Another year.......I bet Jess isn't ready to teach quite yet.
