Today is Ted's yearly exam at his heart doctor's. When Ted was 48 , he had what they call a heart episode. We were going to go golfing that morning. He seemed irritable and was sweating. I asked him what was wrong. He said he felt a bit sick to his stomach.
I said , "honey, I think you are showing signs of a heart attack." He said he wanted to go home and rest a bit, before we golfed. When we got home, from the bank, that's where we were when I noticed these things, I gave him two aspirins. Five minutes later he was saying his arm was hurting...so I drove him across town to the hospital.
Took him in the E.R. and said he was having a heart attack. They did an EKG and gave him clot busters. He was taken by ambulance to another hospital , for a heart catheterization. The Dr. found a 95 % blockage, and a couple of really small ones.
Ted had a stent put in, right then and there. He's been on heart meds since. Changed his eating habits. This is a man that had never been in the hospital since his birth. Was active and looked perfectly healthy. He did not have a heart attack because of the clot busters. But he goes to the heart doctor every year for tests.
I always feel better when he gets the tests done . I just want him healthy and happy. So that is what we are going to be doing this morning. Wishing all of you good health today. I will ask that you know the signs of a heart attack, it can save a live.
The sun is coming up and it looks like it could be pretty today. It is also going to be cold. Stay warm. XO
It's so important that we take care of our health! Ted is lucky to have you around to watch out for him. I hope all goes well today. xo Nellie
ReplyDeleteNellie, We have to stay healthy to take care of each other. ted got a good repot today. So glad, I can relax now. xoxo,Susie
DeleteGood for you, Susie, for recognizing the signs and getting him to the ER. Heart attacks are so different for each person and some of the symptoms are quite mild. Thank God you followed your instincts!
ReplyDeleteGood luck to Ted today and I know you will breathe easier after a good report. xo Diana
Diana, Ted got a good repot. He's happy and so am I. The heart Dr. told ted once that the feeling it had when he had that episode would be the same feeling if he ever had a heart attack. It was the nausea and the sweeting that alarmed me. I lost my g.friend to a heart attack, because I never put two and two together for her. Although I had told her to go get checked. Take care, xoxo,Susie
DeleteKnowing to give the aspirins was important, did you know you're not supposed to swallow them, but rather dissolve them in your mouth so they get absorbed quicker.
ReplyDeleteGlad he's ok.
Yes, I know it is better to let them dissolve .....but he just took them . Today his report is a good one. Actually he is probably healthier than he ever would have been without that episode. By getting the clot busters and stint...there was no attack or damage. But he will be on meds for life too. Thank you for commenting too. We may help others. xoxo,Susie
DeleteSo glad you knew what to do! Hope the check up goes wonderfully!
ReplyDeleteThank you Patty, My Teddy got a good report, all his scripts written out for the year. We have to care for each other. Take care of your sweetie and visa versa, xoxo,Susie
DeleteHi Susie, What a miracle that you were there to encourage him and take him in-you literally saved his life. I hope he never has another episode-but we should all know the warning signs. Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Noreen
Noreen, He got a good report today. That is good news for us. We want to be around to take care of each other. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
DeleteNoreen, Most people think it's just chest pain or arm pain...but there;s many things. It was the nausea and sweating that alarmed me. Ted got a good report today and that makes us happy. He actually never had any heart damage because of the clot busters and the stint, were done in time. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteI'm very happy for you that your husband got a good report. My husband and I have been down that road and I am so thankful I still have him around. He had stents, but later had heart surgery. Check-ups are good and necessary!!!
ReplyDeleteNonnie, I am glad I knew what was happening, it was convincing him that was the hard part. I am glad you have your husband too. We have to look out for one another when we can. Ted only had the one stent and because he got the clot busters so quickly he never really had a heart attack, so there was no heart muscle damage. We know we are blessed. Take care of your sweetie, xoxo,Susie
DeleteI'm so glad to hear he is doing well. I had an actual heart attack when I was 50, had surgery on one vessel only, none of the others were affected. worked hard at rehab and now I'm 61 and hoping for many more heart birthdays.
ReplyDeleteJoanne, I am glad to hear you are doing well , after going through the surgery. My mom had a quad by pass when she was 63 and she did so very well healing and lived 20 more years with a strong heart. She had an intestinal surgery and didn't make it through that. But her heart was actually healthy. She took her meds and exercised some. Bless you, xoxo, Susie
DeleteThat's so good that you were smart enough to recognize the signs. And it sounds like he's been taking care of himself! Stay warm during this winter blast! Sweet hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteDiane, When I told Ted that I thought he was having heart attack signs he was not going to believe me...so I did talk him into taking the aspirin. But once I said that and his arm started hurting he could not longer deny it. When they did the cath. Ted said just go ahead with the stent. He's been well , but will always be on meds...never any high cholesterol. It's like winter here...but oh thank goodness no big snow ...yet. xoxo,Susie
DeleteOh Susie! What a blessing you are to Ted. Most guys would just go home to their easy chair to rest it out. Many do not survive. Since I am late to this post...Sending "day after heart day" hugs your way!
ReplyDeleteIt's such great news that Ted got a good report. Thanks so much for sharing. We all need to be conscious of the symptoms before it is too late.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed day!
