Just thinking of Thanksgiving. Ten days till then. I remember when in school how exciting this time would feel. We would have that 4 day weekend , to celebrate. Good to see our family, friends, and neighbors. Then when I was working...it was still lots of fun to think about. Plus time off work !!
Each year now, I miss my parents. Any one was welcomed to their house to eat or visit. One of our old neighbors used to say, that corner where my parents lived, did not look right without 20 or more cars parked all over . Miss those days.

DeleteYes, Susie, Thanksgiving is a time for family and being Thankful. I miss those days also but am blessed to have all 12 of my family with me on this day...my 3 girls, their husbands and each have 2 children. The love we have for those gone on and those with us is a bond that holds us together. Have a good day and stay warm.

ReplyDeleteMy parents always hosted Thanksgiving and it was wonderful, lots of food, old tales being told, laughter. I miss it very much.
This year we won't even have our daughter, she's moved to Japan.

ReplyDeleteI am 62 and still have my parents on this earth with me. I am blessed. They are very fragile, and have not been the same since my brother passed away nine years ago. The holidays are particularly difficult for them, which keeps me strong for them.

It sounds like you are missing your mom and dad. I always miss mine so much around the holidays. I remember people coming and going at my mom's house too. Sheri, you are a sweetheart. It is funny how many people can have so many things in common. I am sure missing our beloved parents is shared by many. I do not think people can never stopped missing their parents. The Holidays bring back family memories. Sheri, I went to the mailbox today and as soon as I stopped to get the mail..wowwee, I thought of all the people and kids that would be out in that wind. It's bitter cold here today. We may have made 20 degrees but with the wind it felt like below zero. You know I love seeing lodges in the snowy mountains ...just don't want to live in more snow than we get here. LOL. BJ, It is hard at the holidays. I have been thinking about how hard it would be for my parents whenever it was winter. Some times their cars would not start. Some times the water pipes would freeze. Linda, There was too much drinking with my parents...but as time went on things did improve. No in reality we children had a hard knock life. Never enough of any thing. But we had each other. As our parents aged they started to appreciate that we were good kids. No angels mind you, just decent kids. DeleteI am so lucky to still have my parents. We have been changing a lot of traditions though. We no longer go to my parents house for the holidays. I'd love to get that child-like excitement back that we had as children...getting two weeks out of school for the holidays....I remember it well.

Cindy, I told my daughters they can start having the dinners at their home. I don't feel up to cooking the whole meal or even most of it. Don't have the room for such a big family now. So the daughters divide it up and take turn hosting. Plus their kids have all the toys and electronics. I am glad you still have your parents. Get all the stories and hugs you can. xoxo,Susie

I miss the Thanksgivings of my youth with all my aunts and uncles and cousins, in this country, would gather at our house. It's just different now but still nice.
